Leaguer, are seriously arguing the fires around Kirkwall weren't caused by the ginormous explosion that obliterated one of the largest buildings in kirkwall?

I'm arguing it was not that much damage. Being that entire blocks were not lost, I don't see how it would be called a healthy portion of the city damaged by it.

It didn't even blow the windows out of chez Hawke, which is only a block down the street.

How would you even know that? We were in Lowtown when it exploded, and don't return to Hightown for the rest of the game.

Where did I say half? I said a healthy portion. Blowing up the chantry is a healthy portion of Kirkwall.
And maybe I am mistaken, but I thought Anders combined magic and alchemy to blow up the chantry.

I don't know where I got this, but I thought he combined Qunari explosives with raw lyrium to make the bomb.

I might be confused and mixing in trivia from the crosscut drifter codexes.

It's consentrated human poop and dragon droppings.

On that point, why are the places near the chantry still there if it damages most of Kirkwall.

Because after you finish with Meredith, see Varric, Cass, and Leliana, and roll the credits, you wind up back at home waiting for an expansion pack that never came.

That is a really bad answer.

Not magic from the mage. What ever magic a bomb in da has is from with in what ever materials used in making the bomb. Een a rogue or a worrior can make the bomb Ander's made as long as they have the understanding of how.

Really? I have never seen a chemical explosion that causes a building to float up into the air and revolve in a circle and then explode.

Do you even read any of the codex entires you make bombs with? It literly says it in the codex that the material already has the magic in them already. We can make spirit, ice, fire, lighting, and fell granades with out being a mage.
Heck, just read the codex on the materials...

"The name Felandaris is elven, meaning "demon weed", which is fitting for this rare plant because it grows only in places where the Veil is thin.Felandaris is easily identified. It's a twisted, wicked-looking shrub with long, thorny shoots, and no leaves: a skeletal hand, reaching out from an unmarked grave. Many swear the plant radiates a palpable aura of malevolence, so it comes as no surprise that it unnerves many a junior herbalist."

"Glitterdust is the powdered form of a rock found along the Wounded Coast. When explorers brought the sparkling rock to the markets of theFree Marches, it became immediately popular among wealthy ladies who crushed it and applied the powder to their faces. The added brightness and lustre to the skin, however, soon paled in comparison to the developing rash and coughing fits. As it turned out, glitterdust is dangerous if ingested or inhaled. It's also extremely flammable, as several ladies discovered after powdering their hair while standing next to a candle. Unfortunately, this resulted in a dozen deaths by conflagration. These days, glitterdust is used sparingly, and only by experienced alchemists. The most common form of the substance is Volatile Glitterdust. If gathered from caves where darkspawn dwell, the rock produces a powder known as Tainted Glitterdust."

There even matrial that enhance the effect of the explotion of these bombs.
Sorry, but the magic in them is from the matrials used to make them, not from the user.

Also, there are buildings damaged by the shockwave that shoots out from the explosion.

And yes, I think destroying one of the largest buildings in Kirkwall to be a healthy portion of the city. And since that is entirely an opinion and not a fact, I am correct in holding it.

We can make bombs that shoot ice and lighting with out being a mage. That's the effect of bombs made with material with magic in them from a world with magic.

Remeber, this is a series where you can make flaming swords and ice swords.

Fire in some of the building does not equal to a health portion of kirkwall. Sorry, most of the debre did not even hit the city. There would be giant craters and hordes of broken down building if it did.. We just have th one.

And nothing there describes what we saw in Kirkwall, not the deconstruction of a building, not the levitation of stone blocks, and not the explosive boom that occurred hundreds of feet in the air and sent the stone blocks flying.

But if you want to keep believing that emo che's magic wasn't responsible.....

Did this go sideways about a "realistic" bomb in DA2? It always cracks me up to see "realism" being applied to a game with so much powerful magic in it.

Since Anders admitted to studying Tevinter writings in order to create this bomb, this isn't something anyone can just learn by alchemy. That takes some intense learning, and I'm guessing he spent quite some time studying to get it right. It may have ingredients with some inherent magic properties, but from what I observed, it took magic to get it right.

I think magic made the difference between damaging the building and imploding it. Not to mention I think magic is the only explanation as to why most of the debris rained up and out. I do think a little of the debris landed (hence the fires around town,) but it looks like Kirkwall was largely spared from much destruction.

Also, like some of the other posters, I think some of those fires were caused by the mages and templars fighting all over the city.

May I ask what any of that has to do with the topic at hand?

You meanto say that the fact that the material we gat that is from a flying magic  lizard that shots fire mean the bomb did not have material that had magic already in it.
Sorry but the bomb is no way power or enhanced by Ander's powers. The fact the we can make bomb with differnet element in them including fademagic  point sout the fact that a bomb with any effect we want can be made with material  that already has magic in them.

Even Ander's said the bomb was made with Alchemy. No Alchemy uses power from the maker of the item.

I'm not saying the bomb did not have magic in it. I'm saying none of the magic in the bomb came from Ander's. And sure he studied to be able to make the bomb right, but so does any bomb make. It's knowlegde that's the key to making that bomb, not magic of the user. Any one with the skill and the knowledge can make that bomb. They don't need to be a mage to do it. A rogue can have that skill and knowledge. Heck, even Dwarves can make that bomb.

And again you have nothing to prove your point. Yet I'm using the lore to prove mine. Who's head is stuck buried in the sand, the one who's using valid point or the one who has none.
