So which pistols are Eva-Safe? Was there ever a list compiled as to which pistols are okay to switch to and which are not?

We don't really need that though. I can count on one hand how little games try this. When you present an unwinnable situation, it's better to just do a cutscene. At least it's honest. I don't find this other approach honest about the nature of the gameplay. It's just leading players on for no reason. Make a ****ing cutscene if her escape is that important.

You need a pistol with plenty of ammo and a fast rate of fire.
It's the amount of shots fired that coutns not the power or damage done by each shot. It's a scripted event.

What I find interesting about that scene is Ashley/Kaidan fire five shots and get injured, but when Shepard fires five shots, the robot is stopped. Go figure.
The other thing I noticed is I was shooting at its head but in the cutscene its shows the robot getting shot in the chest.
With the crash and fire burning the shields for the robot would be gone leaving just its health to worry about. Or like you say he/she may of weakened the thing.ImaginaryMatter wrote...

Maybe they weakened it?

I also found it a bit annoying that hitting her with an Overload while she's running seems to have no effect at all (I can't remember off-hand if Liara has Stasis at that point in the game but I'm assuming it would also fail). I actually like the chase sequence - the standard Mass Effect action formula of ducking behind crates, walls, etc. and shooting at things can get repetitive - but they should have allowed some variety even if it had to be scripted to end with the VS getting beaten up.
I recently played my first Vanguard playthrough and I was up her behind the entire time because of charge. Of course, it's scripted so I wouldn't have been able to do anything anyways, but it's funny to literally be in front of her multiple times with no success in bringing her down.
You can switch to a Assault rifle, if you're quick enough.
Also, for Pistols, just equip the Predator when you have the chance... Then unequipp it again after completing the mission

If you are fast you should be able to change to a submachine gun if that is what you carry. I've stopped her with the bloodpack smg because the paladin didn't work. They really should have fixed this ages ago so that she goes down at x many bars of health left.
