Ahh, the infamous Eva Rush at the end of the Mars mission.  Swap out for the wrong pistol in a NG+, and the game becomes unwinnable.

So which pistols are Eva-Safe?  Was there ever a list compiled as to which pistols are okay to switch to and which are not?

Much easier to compile a list of pistols NOT to equip.

I just know to stay away from the Executioner.

Basically stay away from any ridiculously high damage pistols like the Executioner, Scorpion, Paladin, etc. The ones that only have a magazine that holds only one or two shots.

Best to just not equip a pistol at all and end up drawing a default Predator.

Avoid the Disciple as well.

Yeah, I guess it's anything like that with a "charge up" mechanism or anything with small clips.

That sequence is kind of screwy. I tweaked the Predator to do massive damage and experimented. There's a set period of invincibility where she doesn't take any damage. You could knock her health down to almost nothing right away, but all subsequent shots do nothing until right before she reaches you. I would guess that they didn't want her going down too quickly. Gotta have that Hollywood crap where style and presentation trump gameplay. <_<

We don't really need that though. I can count on one hand how little games try this. When you present an unwinnable situation, it's better to just do a cutscene. At least it's honest. I don't find this other approach honest about the nature of the gameplay. It's just leading players on for no reason. Make a ****ing cutscene if her escape is that important.

I agree with you, but the reality is that there's a lot of smoke and mirrors in this game. Oh well, it is what it is. *shrug*

Just do not use any pistol and you are fine.

Surely a shotgun would have been more sensible in that situation anyway.

You need a pistol with plenty of ammo and a fast rate of fire.

It's the amount of shots fired that coutns not the power or damage done by each shot. It's a scripted event.

You can do it with an assault rifle, but the change between guns may hinder you. I always keep the Predator with me, because I know this would happen. I have killed her with the Carnifex, but you must make all shots count, missing one can kill you. If you have Marksman, I think you can speed up Carnifex up more so that it doesn't kill you.

What I find interesting about that scene is Ashley/Kaidan fire five shots and get injured, but when Shepard fires five shots, the robot is stopped. Go figure.

The other thing I noticed is I was shooting at its head but in the cutscene its shows the robot getting shot in the chest.

I don't believe that's the case. I've done it with a modded Predator where I took her health down to almost zero with one shot. Then there was a short period of invulnerability when she wouldn't take any damage until she got close enough to trigger the death scene.

I'm pretty sure that's right or at least you do default to a pistol even if you don't have one equipped.

Maybe they weakened it?

With the crash and fire burning the shields for the robot would be gone leaving just its health to worry about. Or like you say he/she may of weakened the thing.

The amount of damage each shot does makes no difference - for that sequence, it's the number of shots you get in that counts. I guess they were going for "cinematic" and assumed everyone would have the default pistol (which, by the way, works).

Any pistol with a rapid rate of fire and a decent sized magazine should work fine.

I just did a quick run to test this out. I used a modded Predator (damage, rate of fire) and took her health down to 1 bar on the second shot. I did body shots so that I could watch her health meter. The next three shots did nothing. Zero, zilch, nada. No damage whatsoever until the sixth and final shot took her down. So she definitely has a short period of invulnerability before her death animation triggers. It doesn't seem to matter how many shots you get in as long as the final shot does enough damage to take her down when her invulnerability times out and she's close enough to trigger the animation.

I also found it a bit annoying that hitting her with an Overload while she's running seems to have no effect at all (I can't remember off-hand if Liara has Stasis at that point in the game but I'm assuming it would also fail). I actually like the chase sequence - the standard Mass Effect action formula of ducking behind crates, walls, etc. and shooting at things can get repetitive - but they should have allowed some variety even if it had to be scripted to end with the VS getting beaten up.

I recently played my first Vanguard playthrough and I was up her behind the entire time because of charge. Of course, it's scripted so I wouldn't have been able to do anything anyways, but it's funny to literally be in front of her multiple times with no success in bringing her down.

You can switch to a Assault rifle, if you're quick enough.

Also, for Pistols, just equip the Predator when you have the chance... Then unequipp it again after completing the mission

If you are fast you should be able to change to a submachine gun if that is what you carry. I've stopped her with the bloodpack smg because the paladin didn't work. They really should have fixed this ages ago so that she goes down at x many bars of health left.
