This thread is more for speculation purposes than anything, but does anyone know if Bioware Austin is looking at making the move with the rest of Bioware onto the Frostbite engine?
SWTOR was made on the Hero Engine and, according to James Ohlen the Senior Director there, this was one of heir largest resource/time/money sinks, testing and developing on a new, untested engine. Now, I am aware that changing engines for SWTOR would be entirely impossible without shutting down servers whole scale for months on end.
That being said, Bioware Austin has been declared the studio that will develop ALL EA MMOs going forward - not just for the Star Wars franchise or even just for Bioware.
Given this, does any know/speculate if they have discussed future titles or even a future version of SWTOR being built on Frostbite?

I doubt they would convert an existing MMO to another engine as that would be quite time consuming and expensive.
However I do believe it has been stated that all future projects would be using Frostbite since it is an engine developed internally at EA allowing them more freedom and not having to get license approval from 3rd party engine providers such as Unreal Engine etc.

Fair enough. I was thinking possibly an expansion for TOR in the future might be, instead, more of a conversion to Frostbite, both for the new content and the existing game, but that would likely require separate servers and double the resources, so that would likely be a losing endeavor for EA/Bioware.

Doubtful. Mostly among the fact that like you said, developing a new engine is a costly endeavor and will be utilized for as long as it can to offset the investment.
Secondly, I don't know if the Frostbite engine is even working for MMOs. For all we know, it might be as suited for MMOs the same as the Aurora engine is suited for running a FPS.
