hey guys, i'd like to know does mass effect follow the same game type as dragon age, only instead of swords and shields etc its guns etc. Like does it have quests, companions. I have ebjoyed dragon age alot and been on my 4th-5th play though its getting repetitive, but i enjoy this community so much i was going to make my next game mass effect 2. Another question, would playing Mass Effect 1 make Mass Effect 2 better or are they in their own sense a different game?
Dragon Age or Mass Effect

without having played ME2 yet it's hard to say, but I think BioWare have made it so it will be accessible to those who haven't played ME1 but playing ME1 first will give you more insight into the characters and storylines, as well as having some key decisions you can import through your save game files
Mass Effect has a more basic party system than in DA, there's not as much banter or interaction unfortunately, but several companions do have personal quests and there are romance options
if you enjoyed Dragon Age you will very likely enjoy Mass Effect as well. I'd also recomend some other BioWare games; Knights of the Old Republic (2 as well although it's not strictly speaking BioWare and it has many grating flaws but it is still a good game), Jade Empire and some of the older games like Baldurs Gate

Yeah, rayvioletta explained it well. I too have played DA:O origins and like it alot like i do ME, but if I had to pick ME over Dragon Age. But thats just personal preference...im into more space Sci-Fi oriented stuff than I am medevial things.
Campanions always keep you interested, side-quests are always enjoyable and in ME2 they even contribute to the main storyline a bit, and, IMO, Mass Effect had some of the best random NPC's (Morlan, Conrad, Refund Guy) The immersion was great and its just an awesome game. My favorite game of all time to be exact.
Also, playing Mass Effect would indeed give you better understanding off not necassarily ME2 itself, but certainly of the Mass Effect universe as a whole. You know like locations, leaders, species, and whatnot. Information like that may be valuable to certain players and people who want an understanding of what they are going into beforehand. AND the best part is ME is very very cheap so there is really know reason to not go pick it up quick and play it...

They both have great stories, quests, parties of people who join you, etc., however, I'd say mass Effect's third person shooter style is quite a bit different than the tab or click targeting you have with Dragon Age.

ok great thanks guys. so what iv got from you guys is, they have a similiar feel to them, quests, companions, side quests and a good storyline. Difference appears to be the time setting simply and im a very big stargate fan so im hoping ill enjoy it.

Biggest differences are aesthetic (classic Space Opera Sci-Fi vs. classic High Fantasy) and combat, Third person shooter action style vs. real-time click and attack system. But if you liekd Dragon Age, I would recommend Mass Effect, and vice versa.
