The "I don't care about X anymore because it turned out not to matter in the end" complaint never really made sense to me. As far as the fate of the galaxy is concerned, it makes exactly zero difference whether Kaidan or Ashley survive Virmire; but it absolutely makes a difference to Kaidan and Ashley, and it makes a difference to Shepard, and oh that's right I'm Shepard! So it matters to me.

On-topic: I'm working on playthrough #3 at the moment, and I've only ever heard Javik comment on Grunt and Jack in any of them.

I don't get it, why do some people not complete loyalty missions? it's like playing half the game. what's the point of buying a whole game if you won't play all of it? I like to enjoy everything that was offered to me. that's why I buy all the DLC even if I don't particularly like it, like Citadel & Leviathan.

Speaking for myself, after you've played through the trilogy a dozen times you want to mix things up in regards to who survives and doesn't. It changes dialog, flavour, mood and scenes. It helps craft the vision of Shepard you have in your head.

After the Rannoch cure mission, go down and talk to Javik. Shepard will begin the dialogue by asking if he is settling in. After that he will mention "traces" left by the previous crew. Usually, I have gotten mention of Miranda (human female with artificially made DNA), Thane (a sick Drell), and Grunt (if you take him on the Rachni mission he will be glad he got to meet Grunt).

I haven't played through the trilogy that many times, around 5 in total - all 3 games. But I'm just a completionist, plus I end up making the same decisions I always do. I can't help it. Except maybe for sparing the Council, even though Alastair Duncan's acting has always amused me. And I like Tevos.

Why not mixed it up and do something different in ME2? Doing that adds replay value at least for me.

Played that mission last night, and those three are who Javik mentioned.  Guess I just forgot about it.

Just a follow up: I just started an ME2 playthough, mainly to play around as an adept, but decided I would use this opportunity to try out something different: no Grunt. He stays in the tank this time. Time to find out what Javik says if Grunt is never "birthed."

Oh, I definitely suggest a Jack-less ME3 if nothing else. It completely recasts the feel of Grissom Academy. ME3 without Mordin is also good: different, but still good, with Paddok Wilks an interesting Salarian in his own right.

Tali and Legion put their own factions in a different light as well. Go without Legion at the very least if you want a more balanced approach to Rannoch.

Not having Legion is the main one I would protest the most. Geth VI is..Well, it annoys me that a VI is even walking around at all. Let alone able to physically overpower you.
