If Hollywood was able to pull off adapting incredibly large and complex franchises like LOTR and Star Trek, I honestly believe a ME film is doable, given the right talent.  That's the hard part, finding the perfect people. LOTR and Star Trek would've been disasters if they didn't have the director and crew that they had.

The problem would be doing the franchise justice, given the history of movie adaptions of video games it doesn't look promising.

All of those video game adaptions clearly never had the right people. LOTR/Star Trek were lucky to have landed people like Peter Jackson/JJ Abrams. Years ago everyone would've said adapting LOTR/Star Trek is impossible and disastrous, but it just takes the right group of talented film makers to prove people wrong.

If an ME film were to go through, I am just hoping Hollywood would realize given past video game adaption faiures, they need to take the project beyond serious and do everything they can to get the right people going for the right vision. They can't assume just because it's a big title that it would rake in the bucks by itself and that any cast/crew would do. That's probably what they thought when making all of those horrible adaptions of the past.

^Its going to be hard to capture what made the games great and put it into a film format, there are aspects that games can create that can't be done on film. Even if they get good director's and actors there will still be a lot skepticism about if they'll be able to pull it off as it'll be huge effort to make the first successful movie adaption of a video game.

I don't doubt there will be skepticism. But what you're saying about games can be said about alot of books and TV shows (especially books). There's only been a handful of video game adaptions and I don't think any of them were taken very seriously

The thing about adapting a video game is that the movie should be taking advantage of its unique lore and action potential. Not replicating gameplay.

The way ME does its cinematics trailers I believe is proof alone how of filming such a game could work. For example, the cinematic trailers of ME2 highlight the game's squad mate system by showing off fancy action sequences involving team coordination. A ME live action film should have the same thing.

The best people in Hollywood know how to tell great stories, execute amazing sci fi action sequences, while presenting something new, special, and authentic.  Now if they can only apply that to projects like a ME film...

Thing is the movie will be about Shepard and I think its safe to say that fans (femshep fans in particular) are going to have a problem with the depiction of Shepard. It would be a lot better if the movie expands the universe with a new plot and characters since the universe has potential to tell lots of different stories.

Gotta say, if they wanted to do Femshep, which I think they should, Emily Blunt would be a solid choice. She does an excellent job in Edge of Tomorrow playing a soldier.
