What's wrong with being technically correct? Or is this like in The Big Bang Theory, where Sheldon makes people angry by pointing out that he's smarter?AresKeith wrote...

I know, but technically, for Hawke to be the Amulet of Mara, s/he would have to also get married, or be required for the companion/s to get married (aside from Ave), the latter assuming marriage was ever on the tables prior to the concept of romance.
To be precise, the Amulet of Mara is only used for getting married, not for being in romance.

And let me just say that I find it baffling that many gay gamers apparently support this whole "playersexual" system. Personally, I'd think it'd be insulting that a fictional character's sexuality can swap between gay/straight at the whim of the player as if it were a light switch.

I've already said in the past that I loathe "playersexual" LIs. It kills immersion for me by reminding me I'm in a programmed, artificial environment, and also feels absurdly playercentric. Characters need to be their own independent entities, not satellites that revolve around the player.
Also, this needs to be emphasized because some people here still don't get it, "playersexual" and "bisexual" do not mean the same thing. An LI who is "playersexual" would be homosexual if they were the same gender as the PC, and heterosexual if they were opposite. The only LI in DA2 who was truly bisexual was Isabela, since she clearly desires both men and women regardless of the PC's gender.
And let me just say that I find it baffling that many gay gamers apparently support this whole "playersexual" system. Personally, I'd think it'd be insulting that a fictional character's sexuality can swap between gay/straight at the whim of the player as if it were a light switch.

Anders' just because he didn't mention his relationship with Carl in Awakening didn't mean that it never happened. If you look closely at him in Awakening his jovial attitude is just a front.

Agreed.
Making the hottest LI in the game the boring, self-righteous prince was the worst thing Bioware has ever done.
Pfft please Bro/Sister.
Fenris minus the angst, and spikey hair was the lankiest elf presented thus far.
._. He is the hottest LI.

They don't like being treated like women get treated is my guess. My favorite thing about ZOMG ANDERS HIT ON ME is that I have done a lot of ManHawke playthroughs and I have never actually managed to get the dude to hit on me. I always forget which call/response makes it happen and I can't be bothered to go out of my way to figure it out.
Yeah, that did seem rather abrupt.Shinian2 wrote...

I actually thought it was possible to avoid the flirting so intentionally started a playthrough where I'd avoid it.
Nope, always happens. Or at least, maybe there is one arcane combination that it doesn't happen that I didn't come across
My beef with it is this:
"Wow, I'm stunned that I had to kill my boyfriend like that, I'm traumatised. Hey wanna make out?"
In case anyone has noticed, yes my beef is with the bad writing.

As was pointed out, I was referring to the DA2 characters. I should've been clear on that. Much as I liked Origins, I find DA2's handling of LIs MUCH better. I don't think players should ever be cut off from the LI they want over something like this. Especially after removing all such gender-based restrictions in DA2, it would be a woefully backwards move to go back to Origins after giving us DA2 in the first place.
I would have thought Isabela was obviously bi in DA2 as well, and Zevran was in DA2 as well for that one scene. Did he flirt with hawke? I've forgotten.
However yes, I was referring to both games, but left out Leliana since she wasn't in both games. (well, not in any romance sense at least.)
As I stated earlier, what I liked about DAO romances was that there was a buildup over time, story wise, not the Mass Effect style two talks and then sexy-time. I honestly don't care if all the romances are bi as long as they are written as such, and written well.
Isabella is definitely written as bi in DA2, and Zevran hits on Hawke regardless of gender (and if he's going to forget he's in love with my Warden, ain't no way I'm passing up on my Hawkes ALSO having a threesome with Isabella and Zevran).
I definitely agree the most important thing is that they feel more fleshed out than DA2's did. For all the time-passing mechanic of DA2, they managed to feel sudden and awkward a lot of the time. That was more of a problem with Anders and Merrill than Isabella or Fenris for me, though. Isabella actually feels well-paced, all things considered, and Fenris' issues make the weird jumpiness make some sense. I guess my biggest issue was the "you slept together, now let them MOVE IN or LOSE THEM FOREVER" binary choice for Anders and Merrill.
Also, please let me dump people in DA:I. I hate not being able to dump people if I've decided partway through that a romance is going places I do not want to go. No, that has nothing to do with player-sexuality, but I felt like saying it anyway!

But then tbh all the LI's in DA2 irritated me a bit except for Isabela.

A. In Awkaening he makes zero indication that he is bisexual
B. His attitude is not a front in Awakening, I'd argue that DA2 is his altered state on account of Justice.
