Ive seen soooo many threads on "Ashley bashing".  Hell, out of the two LIs in the first game she's the ONLY one I actually liked.  So what if she's a little "racist" or "xenophobic".  We all have baggage but in the words of Shepard "The trick is, finding someone with a matching set."  Overall, she's a pretty damn good character. 

Lets compare a bit shall we?

Where as Liara is actually a little smarter than Ashley, the pro that Ashley has over her in this regard is that as least Ash didnt do the moronic thing and lock herself in a prothean barrier bubble (an alleged prothean expert btw who doesnt know wtf she's doing.) and expect someone else to get her out.  Secondly, on top of said FIRST moronic move, she was YELLING for help in a mine/ruin crawling with geth.  Seriously, if you know you're being chased, who in their right mind would be YELLING for help so as to give away their exact position to the enemy?

Next, in a strait up fist fight, Ashley would smear the deck with Liara.  (Thats no biotic powers and no weapons allowed)  Why? Because Liara is a WUSS.  Sorry, but I like my women a little rough around the edges, makes them feel more "real" I suppose.  I admit though, my first intial impression of Liara was "Bow chika wow wowww" after getting to know the character a bit, that quickly faded.

I suppose the only real gripe I have with Ashley (which was almost a deal breaker with me on her too lol.)  Was that she seems to be such a "Holy Roller" or "Bible Thumper".  I am a Wiccan by design.  I also believe in "all" paths to a "god".  But someone to believe that there is only ONE god and that if you dont follow him you're going to burn for it is just a concept that escapes me.  (Albiet not all Christians/Catholics etc. have this mentality mind you)  But a good number of them do.  Enough to raise a few flags when people start dropping the "G" bomb around me. 

But seriously, that's the only negative feature that I can see with Ash that would even come close to being a deal breaker with me.  And even then, she didnt seem to try and "force" the issue on Shepard so I was "cool" with it.  IMO, Liara has far more "unredeeming" qualities than Ash.  And for that reason, I ALWAYS choose Ash over Liara.

I just honestly dont see the appeal of Liara.  And it's not even because she's an alien.  Hell, if I had the option to, I'd get with Tali in a heartbeat simply because she's got ALL of the qualities I look for in a woman.  (but thats another thread altogether lol.)

Ok, Im done ranting heh...I was just so tired of seeing all of the "Lets bash on Ash" threads and not seeing any that hate on Liara so I wanted to remedy that

She's petite & intelligent. That can be quite attarctive. Ashley's more the raw athelectic type. That can also be quite attractive. I think they can both do with a better looking face though.

On a serious note I agree the Ash hate should stop, If someone dosent like Ash (or any caracter)  they should respect the fact that other people do. Besides she was the caracter from ME1 who was fleshed out realy well, a great caracter indeed.

You are very right - well about the first part anyway - they are both very different and appeal to different people.
Personally I like Liara a lot and Ashley is a good character regardless that I am not much of a fan of her.

No reason to belittle anyone about their opinion though.

Seriously, that sounds like a dude talking to a woman who just went through labor and asking her why she isn't up and run around the room.

I think when she is "resting" it's more about sorting out the visions/thoughts/memories/etc. of the other person.

Yeah, that's totally fair. If I am a chess grandmaster, and you are an expert at checkers, odds are you will beat me when we play checkers. If it is a biotic-only contest between Ashley and Liara, guess who will win?

Well, I agree with you there. What bothered me the most is when she's on Noveria, scolding a Salarian for committing suicide. If I was about to get gnawed on by a horde of baby Rachni, odds are I would shoot myself too. I don't care what the bible says about suicide.

IMO, Liara has far more "unredeeming" qualities than Ash.  And for that reason, I ALWAYS choose Ash over Liara.

The thing is that Liara is a very specific type of person: she is a woman-child. You either like that or not. Same with Ashley, she is incredibly blunt and unsophisticated kind of person, desite the poor attempt at reciting poetry. They both have redeeming qualities and flaws, but it's all going to come down to what weighs heavier for you. Any discussion about which LI is the best is going to turn into a bash-fest, because there is no objective answer.

Negative...as Ive posted in SEVERAL other threads...The special on X-play (coming strait from Casey's mouth) is that ME2 takes place 2 MONTHS after ME1...Not 2 years.

Well both Ash and Tali<3 fight with you when you pick them up even before they actually belong to your team. Liara on the other hand does nothing to help you fighting your way out of the ruins. That might make her look a little weak.

My problem isn't with Liara so much - it's with the artists over at BioWare - EVERY other Asari is smoking hot, yet Liara (for who-knows-what reason) is ugly.... IMO at least.



Seriously, why couldn't she be more like that councillor Asari? Or the commandos? Disappointed.
