I like Liara... although her voice annoys me. I also like Ashley, but I always play as a She-pard, so no Ash secks for me =(
Btw... Ash never really goes into detail about what god she believes in does she? What's with all the assumption that she's a christy fundie?
Because you can have the convo with her about her dad watching on from the afterlife. And because of her scolding the Salarian for committing Hara-kiri lol...As far as I know, only the "christian" based religions find suicide to be "unforgivable"
True... but lots of religions have an afterlife, and this is 200 years in the future, maybe she follows some bizarre evolution of Pastafarianism which has become a true religion by this time? I've never gone with her to Noveria, so I don't know exactly what she says, but maybe, as a hardassed grunt, she is berating him for cowardice rather than sin? I dunno... I am approaching this discussion from a position of ignorance, so feel free to ignore me if I'm talking [poopy].
Ash only said ''its a shame god only gives you one shot at life'' nothing bad. And i doubt she is against suicide considering she was willing to sacrifice herself on virmire.
Hmm. So she's probably not a Hindu then...
I think there is a bit of a difference between being willing to commit suicide and being willing to sacrifice yourself for the benefit of your crewmates - that's not suicide, it's a warrior's death. All for one and one for all *swords* and all that... although I do see the point.

No, you're not talking poopity-poop
lol. It's a legitamite angle...I admit BioWare is a little vague on
this aspect of her character and probably did so on purpose. I suppose
it more "assumed" she is a christian etc. due to innuendo of context
than actual "facts."
...it censored ****... I dun like being censored...
To be fair, I assumed she was christian at first too... I suppose they leave it open a little so that you can assume that she shares the religious views (if any) of your Shepard? If she still lives in ME2, I want to be able to convince her of the futility of believing in god and utterly destroy her worldview

Finaly something we Ash and the Liara fans can both agree on, come in Miranda, Suze, Samara, Tali, get in here now Kelly!

But come on, sure, Ash can dakka them to death, but Liara can manipulate the fabric of reality and rip them to shreds with rapidly fluctuating gravity fields!

In fact; if you even follow her conversations, you'd know she's pretty much a scapper, and has used her biotics to defend herself before, when she's out on dangerous planets. She's one of the strongest members of your squad, obviously, being a biotic and all.
If you expected Liara to get out of Feros unharmed on her own, when you the player does it with a giant ship in orbit, a tank, and two equally badass squad-mates armed to the teeth with every type of weapon and skill... Then really... Liara is only "weak" compared to Wonder Woman.
InB4 "NO UZ JUST A LIARA FANBOI"
I just porked her cuz she was blue.

Because she is a whiny damsel in distress (it's just an expression, I know we save her "only" once), and her attitude and way of speaking are intended to be "cute and likeable", when in reality she's extremely annoying. She's like a mary-sue, like, she's been working alone for decades, an expert on protheans, but also a natural super-amazing biotic.
Ashley and Kaidan are Alliance soldiers. Wrex is an experienced battlemaster. Tali received training for her pilgrimage. Garrus has the turian military training and he's a C-Sec officer.
Liara is a prothean expert with "the natural biotic talents of her species". Also, she's barely 18. What are the chances of her having any experience in real combat? If she would have stayed at the Normandy the whole time, she'd been a more believable character.
And when she appears, the main character (Shepard) automatically connects with her. Like, they sooo love each other.
At least Ashley was a soldier, and thus competent in the battlefield because she's a professional, and part of the Alliance, having something in common with Shepard that makes their bonding a bit more believable.
Sorry, I don't like Liara. I respect the ones that do, and maybe see those qualities as positive, but Liara is not an action girl. She's not. No.

Well, i'm surely not going to debate real life for a certain number of reasons, but if you're talking about in-game, not only Liara can possibly crush Ashley with her Biotics (don't see the point of people saying Liara can't do anything without Biotics because is the same as saying Ash can't do jack without her combat training, it is true, but incosecuential given the fact these are traits inherent to the characters and they wouldn't even be said characters without them) but for a relationship I prefer someone I actually can stand.Yea, let me know when talking gets you out of that firefight when bullets are whizzing past you...Let me know how that turns out for you because Ive been there bro
Besides I don't really need Liara to cover my back that's what Wrex/grunt are for

Like I said, Liara has fought before the events of ME1, if you follow her conversations. She can take care of herself, all you did was turn a switch off to save her.
You had to save Ashley and Tali, as well.
Also, magic mind meld is also a good way to bond with someone.

And hence the meat of the matter....I can relate better to Ashley because she is more "believable" than Liara. I cant stand the "cutesy" and as someone else put it "damsel in distress" mentality.

Give Liara a handy pistol & throw & lift abilties & she is as good as anyone in a battle. She should be able to take down most enemy with one ability hit.
Actually, game mechanic wise, I used to run with Liara and Ash as my squadmates in ME1 and can you guess who it is that died the most between the two? Ill give you a hint: It wasnt Ash lol.
