Actually, game mechanic wise, I used to run with Liara and Ash as my squadmates in ME1 and can you guess who it is that died the most between the two? Ill give you a hint: It wasnt Ash lol.

You were probably doing something wrong, or needed to slap some Colossus X on that.

Liara never died in my Insanity playthrough, with me as Soldier and Tali as Engineer.

Barrier is the second most unbalanced skill, the first would be Immunity. Even as a Soldier you could cast Immunity like 2 - 3 times in a row. **** was so cash.

Point is. Nothing get's through barrier while it's up. (Provided you don't suck.) Hell; Liara killed Saren for me.

your forgetting your romancing someone who is like 18....not much experience....
And for her the part of her life she was in was the stage where you go out learn and experience things...THEn mate with someone. So im guessing she was a lil hesitant because it goes against her culture or something.

Now this I can actually agree with...If she had just a weeeee bit more "worldly" experience, and was "hardened", just a little bit, I might like her.  So yea, in the end, some of it may be attributed to her lack of "wisdom" in the world as to why I dont like her much.

Yes Ash is a good tank, but her damage is limited to her weapons.

It's all relative. Biotic do more damage but take more damage per hit
& Soldiers do less damage but take less damage per hit.
Give Liara the 10th tier light armor from the first DLC and her staying power becomes pretty good.

And hence the meat of the matter....I can relate better to Ashley because she is more "believable" than Liara.  I cant stand the "cutesy" and as someone else put it "damsel in distress" mentality.

I can understand where you come from and you're provably right about Ash being more believable, however, I *personally* find rather hard to see Ashley as relatable/likable at all, she's closed minded and a whiner and her story isn't that interesting at all, at least Liara had a reason to be there with Benezia being Saren's ally.

I'd take cuteness over insufferability any day

Nah, I had Colossus X's on everyone, I just didnt "actively" use my squad-mates powers myself.  I let the AI handle that lol.  I had enough problems on Insanity watching my own back lolImage IPB

Lol; I just remembered that whole part with Ashley joining the team; it does seem like uninspired writing. I remember arguing with Anderson on my Renegade playthrough.

I found Liara's views on humanitly a liittle strange, she didnt think much of humans didnt she? And for no reason.

It was becuase of the Aliance Ash didnt like Aliens that much, she didnt even get a chance to work with them becuase they kept holding her back due to blacklisting her family despite all her recommedations so she started blaiming the aliens (Turians mainy) for what has happend to her family. And the fact she never seen an alien before working with Shepard is the reason why she didnt have any good views on aliens, she never spoke to one so all she new was the pain the Turians caused her family.

I can also understand why she was concerned with them on board the most advanced Aliance ship i doubt the UK, US or Canada ect millitary would be okay with German soldiers on board there vessels only 20 years after WW2.

And in a job with death around every corner i think you cant blaim someone for having faith in an afterlife, its not like she's a jehovah witness trying to convert you.

I don't think anyone did. I suppose that a good reason to pick Ashley. The fact that she's human.

Germany was firmly allied with the nations you just mentioned 20 years after WW2... (NATO) Before that West Germany was already allied with the U.S, U.K and even France. And while I don't know if Germans served on board other countries Navies (it really doesn't makes sense in this case) they did participate in good will multinational operations.

Besides; wasn't Ashley's concern not that they weren't human, but that they weren't ALLIANCE. Which makes perfect sense is and is less bigoted, unless I'm thinking of Pressly. Yeah, I think I might be thinking of Pressly.

I'm not entirely sure how Liara is weak. She mentioned that she was able to handle herself in most dangerous situations on her own with ONLY her biotics. The only reason she got screwed over on Therum was because a Krogan battlemaster and a platoon of geth where on her adorable blue behind. She might not be good in a one on one punch fight, but she can very easily warp someone out of existance (I know, I've seen it at lvl60 lol).

I think you might have misunderstood the reason why she hid during that final fight against the Krogan and those 4 other geth: She wasn't part of your squad so you couldn't use her and they couldn't have just made her disappear randomly during that scene <_<.

Anyways, I think any woman - or any person for that matter - who can go through a doctoret program and come out alive is pretty tough indeed.

Liara is over 100 years old and has been all her life shuttered in excavations she's provably met a really, really scarce number of humans having account humanity is relatively new to the Galactic community but the point is, she had little reason to think about them.

They're pretty much in the same situation yet I found Ashley's reasons to distrust aliens more like personal prejudice than anything, because she's been suffering the consequences of his grandfather actions in the first contact war, Liara simply stated that she didn't know humans very well and that they're considered rash by the majority of the other species

As I said, screw Ashley, and personally I run with Ashley and Liara as well and guess what. Liara doesn't die once. In fact I've actually seen Ashley get owned, and its quite funny. I prefer Tali over both of them, but Liara's still my favorite and I'm glad I saved my best buddy Kaiden and left Ashley to die on Virmire :P

Not to mention it took three people armed to the teeth with a tank to accomplish what people seem to think she should have done on her own.

Escape.

Exactly. I can't say I'm a huge fan of Ashley or Liara. But I sure as **** wasn't leaving Kaiden on Virmire, he was like my best friend on a ship full of some strange people. Wtf? o.O Oh and Tali rules, hope for a LI in ME2.
