I don't really judge someones worth by their ability to beat someone else up in a 'straight up fist fight'.

Liara could kick both Subject Zero's and Samara's a**es easily.

Liara's a leverl 60 adept, while they'll both be lucky to ever hit level 30.

Hmm. I could see both Samara and Subject Zero beating Liara in a fight. Samara has +500 years of experience while Subject Zero is far more aggressive. She might be able to quickly KO Liara, though in an extended fight Liara would probably show more tactics and stamina.

Liara is an archeologist and a scholar.

Ashley is a hot-headed gun-toting annoyance who was not an officer so has nothing signifying any sort of high-intellect. (also: dead).

Ah you think intelligence has something to do with military rank...that's kinda sad.

Now Liara's knowledge is the result of intense study over at least half a century, that's not impressive.  If she could work and understand prothean technology with little or no foreknowledge, that would be impressive.  Anyone, who studies anything, will be a genius in their field if they do it for 50 years.  Liara strikes me as being a lot like people I know who go to university.  These people have extensive knowledge in their particular area of study but none in anything else.  Now Liara's particular field of knowledge is useful in-game, but in everyday life it's pretty useless.

Ash on the other hand demonstrates no particular genius in any particular field but neither does she come across as being particularly stupid.  Furthermore her NCO status is most likely the result of the black listing of her family rather than any particular failing on her part considering, according to Shepard, her "technical scores are amazing".

Now I don't like Liara, her voice is mildly annoying and her Space Mage status angers me.  However I'd never say Ash was better than Liara or vice versa.

Liara fan here too....petite, intelligent, fragile, little damaged maybe by her past with her mother...inexperienced in the world, not brash...

all very appealing qualities in many ways, really, she is the total opposite of Ash....

I'm with you Cypher :)

Strange... I never knew that being fragile was attractive.

Anyways, I did like Ashley better. Now, if you COMBINED Ashley and Liara... we'd have a ball. Combine Ashley, Liara, and Miranda!!! WOWZERZ. So yeah, I prefer chicks who can take care of themselves and are not little, petite, fragile flowers. That's just too much for me. Look at it like this: Take away Liara's biotics and you'd be a baby sitter. Take away Ashley's guns and she'd punch your lights out. Take your pick, I'm with Ash.

Liara isn't THAT great. Heck, if you pick her up late-game, she throws a hissy-fit about performing "Decades of intense academic study and field research. And for what? (...) all the answers just fell into your lap. It isn't fair! All those years, wasted!"

In any case, though, I'm not anti-Liara. I just prefer Ashley, and when it comes to FemShep, Liara is my foremost pick. Kaiden is just so... blah.

So if you spent decades meticulously researching something, and then some random person who's not even a scientist finds all the answers through technomagicimagetransplant, you wouldn't at least feel a slight inclination towards swearing like a sailorImage IPB?

The thing is that she doesn't "swear like a sailor". There are plenty of ways to express agitation and the one phrase she had to use was "It isn't fair", whining like a petulant child. Had she growled/yelled in frustration, or even swore, it wouldn't seem so bad, but no... she had to use THAT phrase.

Then your reaction would be akin to that of a Liara who has not spent enough time trapped in a forcefield underground to start hallucinatingImage IPB

I was puzzled at why you thought agitation was unfitting. Apologies, I did not know it was the way she expressed it that you disliked.

Such a nonsense.
Liara was the only one with the right theory about the disappereance of the protheans, without the beacon.
All elder and more experienced asari scientist were wrong.
