So I have this area I built using the sewer tile set. Medium sized with a nice curved channel going through the middle. A couple of bridges to get across, some nice slimy green water and every thing was happy happy happy.
A few months later, I opened the area, and about half of the water is gone. It's in a square pattern, some tiles yes, some tiles no. It's not a whole meta-tile, just some individual squares.
I thought maybe it was just the toolset acting funny or something, so I checked in game. same thing. I tried erasing and re-painting some water, and some squares just wont except water. It's been a while since I opened this particular area, so there's no way of telling what caused it. Any one have any ideas?

nope, no texture pack.
It's the darndest thing. I started making a new area, and the water is fine. I can't find any differences between the new area and the old area, other than this water issue. I just can't figure out what could cause it.
Oh well, I guess I'll rebuild the area.

iirc there was some bug with lights causing water to not display correctly. Try turning off placed lights in the area.

I think you have to leave at least one light or the water doesn't display either. I don't recall this being an issue in the toolset though, only when playing. I may be recollecting incorrectly.

Try an export, then a re-import. That sometimes fixes wierd behavior.

I had a similar problem a few years ago, and Kaldor's advice (above) worked for me back then. Without light the water wasn't displaying. I applied a few carefully placed low lights, and it worked.
It was a huge underground cave with water at knee level that just vanished in square blocks around the place. Fiddling with the lights sorted it.
If you are using placed lights I'm assuming directional light is currently switched off. If you haven't already, turn it back on and see if that shows the water up. It might be that simple.

Yep, that was it.
Upon closer inspection, the only water that is visable, is near placeable lights. If I move the lights around, the water appears. If I turn on directional light, the whole thing comes back.
Whew, I'm glad I didn't waste a bunch of time building a new area that probably would have done the same thing. thanks for the help guys.

I've noticed that water won't show up at all on the maps without any directional light. For completely dark internal areas with water I usually set the directional light colour to RGB 1,1,1. It's close enough to black that you don't notice it at all, but enough for the water to show up on the area map and minimap.
