Like the title says, I wonder if the next Mass Effect will have the same thing that happened with ME1-3's hub worlds or if it'll be different. I have to say it seemed a bit odd to not see any female turians, salarians, krogan, drell, hanar(though...I don't know how they would look/sound different), elcor, volus, vorcha, batarians, etc. in 1 and 2. 3 only showed a few among many males.

Not to mention that we've only seen 3 drell in existence in ME1-3. Considering places as large as the Citadel, or Illium, or Omega, you'd think you'd see more drell or quarians walking around(I know the bulk of each are located on Kahje and the Flotilla respectively but still) or just being part of background crowds.

What do you think about this? Think they'll show more race/gender diversity in the next Mass Effect? I hope so.

I do think that this is a good idea but they probably don't have the time or resources to do this.

Also this thread is going to end well.

Assuming the next game is set within Council (or Terminus) space, and isn't set in an unexplored region of the Milky Way or in the Andromeda galaxy, there will most likely be female Turians. After the Omega DLC they now have a character model to work with.

Volus don't really need a female character model, IMO. Just use the familiar character models and give a few of them female voice actors.

They could also go a similar route with the Elcor and Hanar.

They're recreating every model from scratch for the new engine anyway, so I'd expect female versions of whatever species they're including. It's not like they can import Nyreen into Frostbite, and next-gen systems will require much higher-poly character models regardless - so everything is going to be redone. If we take the PAX fan panel accounts as genuine, then they've already remodelled all the Council species - and they're even introducing different facial features for asari/salarians/turians.

If Mass Effect Next is only for next-gen consoles, which I think is likely at this point, then they're not nearly as restricted in terms of character models as the Xbox 360 and PS3 were.

I think its certainly needed to have more of a gender/race diversity. At the moment my theory on drell reproduction is that the species is A-sexual. It was my theory on turians too until we saw nyreen.

well it all started with the fact that they dont seem to make different bodies for anyone. All krogan apart from Grunt are exactly the same before Eve in the third game. All salarians are the same. All humans are basically the same. Same body for females and males with rare exception. Yes they have to include more female participants of the other species but they also need different sizes for people. You cant have everyone to be of the same height and structure.

Drell do have females, as Thane refers specifically to his wife.
My memory is hazy, but I think he also talks about his son's aunts (either his sisters or his wife's sisters) as well.

Since both of those terms indicate feminity, you can accept it that Drell are a dual gender race.

That's mostly due to technical limitations, I think, rather than them being uncreative. If everyone uses the same body model, or even the same face model with colour swaps, that's a lot less for the system to store in memory.

They only have a limited memory budget to use (especially on X360/PS3), and every unique character or asset in a level takes up part of that budget - so there's no way they could have enough variations while also having lots of characters in a level.

(I think this was also the reason why Shepard couldn't holster the weapon in ME3 - the animations to do so took them over the memory budget.)

But from everything we've been hearing, they'll be able to do a lot more of that variation in the next game.

I do think memory is an issue, but with different sizes its also a manpower issue as well for they would have to animate each one of those models differently for otherwise there is the Sheploo and Femshep issue of moving exactly the same even if their frames really don't look like they are moving correctly.

And how hard would it be to animate them correctly. Skyrim does it if you download a few mods. Just add a little bit more variety, like short, tall, medium, muscly, thin, standard, and thats it. Because its the bright future we can assume there is no obesity anymore. Sure its some extra work but considering that ME is done by a huge company there shouldnt really be a problem of doing that. Plus new engine should handle it.

That's also the reason they couldn't do a Hanar in ME3MP.
