NOW I have to replay DA2 and make the sibling a GW just to see him. I LOVED his character. I wish awakening had been a fully realized game and he was a romancable character. He was truly the best. I took him everywhere. Turned out of be really the most likeable and I played as a cousland. I just loved that he was openminded enough to come around and you got to see he was so honorable. I'm going to play my next DA2 game at least until Bethany becomes a Grey warden. That should be fun to see him again. Must play soon!!! thanks for mentioning that.

And the best part about Nathaniel is, he translates well to DA2's rendering engine, unlike the hatchet job they did on Teagan, Alistair and Zevran.  He still has all his hotness, and personality intact for DA2, unlike creepy, greasy Anders.

Anders' core personality didn't change; the biggest difference is that he stopped using humor as a shield so much and started looking beyond his own comfort. He was always a very angry person beneath the humor, which you could sometimes see slip out; his development is actually quite interesting. I also thought he looked better in DA2, truth be told.

Anyway...

Personality: somewhere between Alistair and Leliana, due to how genuinely well-meaning they both are without being the same kind of judgmental that Wynne is.

Stats: Wynne, as I find both healing and mages in general to be very important.

Backstory: I find it hard to choose a genuine favorite from this list.

Personality: This is a tough call. I think overall, Shale - her banters with everyone are just too hilarious, and I love bonding with her over the inferiority of squishy mundanes.

Stats: Morrigan makes a wonderful nuker and debuffer with her core spells. Shale again is very useful, though her crystals do require micromanaging against certain opponents.

Backstory: Oghren. How the whole Branka thing ended up was really tragic, and taking him to the Urn of Sacred Ashes only reaffirmed that.

Easily Morrigan.

Most cunning out of the bunch and refuses to let petty morality drag her down. She is definitely one of the most honest people in Thedas in terms of desires and ambitions. Plus she enjoys killing elephants in rooms, what's not to like?

Alistair on all fronts. I like his personality. I also like Morrigan and Zevran. I really missed them in DAO. In DAO I really liked Nathaniel and  Sigrun. DA2 I try to forget. The only companion I really liked there was Varric and my kid sister. Only we didn't get to keep her.

lol.. I don't recall Anders being greasy.

You're right though, Nathaniel looks cool. Maybe even better. Same with Leliana.

Overall, I'd have to say Alistair. Good-humored characters tend to get favor with me. Sten and Morrigan were close though. I found his character to be more engaging than I thought at first blush, and I found Morrigan to be very amusing.

The affect that they had with the stringy, unkempt blonde hair and mismatched dark colored whiskers on his face gave him a 'greasy, unkempt' look to me.  And his pointed chin reminded me of a weasel.  And his personality in DA2 was completely repellent to me.  He's one of the few companions forced on the player (in DA2) I absolutely hated.  I liked him in Awakenings, he wasn't all embittered, and wasn't such a complete downer to be around, but then, in Awakenings, you don't have to take him.  I always recruit him in Awakenings, even if I am the spirit healer mage because I love telling the templars 'gtfo' when they try to take him.

I loved Wynne. Similar morals, very warm once you get to know her.

My favourite companion is easily Alistair. He is just so well written and acted that i cannot help from either fall in love with him or be his best bud. But it should be said that Origins is probably the only Bioware game where i like all the companions and really like them, they are well fleshed out.

My overall favorite is Morrigan. She's actually quite innocent and vulnerable deep down, just that she was raise to be a harsh cunning witch (well her "mother" is a thousand year old Witch of the Wild, what else can we expect). Romancing her and see her struggle with her feeling was quite interesting and touching even. Pretty well written character.

Personality: Zevran. The only one who doesn't judge the Warden, he has sense of humour and can laugh at himself as well. Also, he's the only one who steps in and begs my Wardens to spare mages, Dalish, to end misery of Ruck, to help elves in the alienage...

Stats: I never cared much about that. My party was always based on the personality of the Warden I played and the missions, not the base stats... the party my 'canon' Surana used most often was Zevran (dual daggers), Leliana (archery) and Oghren (two-handed).

Backstory: Zevran. The more I talked to him about the Crows, the more I admired him and his decision to escape.

Overall favorites: Zevran hit the right combination of sweet and salty for me, without any bitterness.  Nathaniel struck me as decent and mature (albeit with daddy issues a subscription).

Fascinating layers, like onions: Oghren is a painful portrait of alcoholism (especially in his much-maligned DAA appearance), and he has a backstory that would make him a fandom super-woobie if he wasn't, well, Oghren.  Sigrun is is a layer of fatalistic bounce and adorability overtop of a pit of survivor's guilt and despair.

The one I want to white knight for: I think Velanna got a raw deal.  I want to go back and rewrite the Wending Wood a bit so that Angry Minority Woman's anger isn't totally undermined and made baseless by the plot.

The fanboy I want to geek out with: Finn.  Finn is of my people, the Enthusiastic Eggheads.  We can write Black Fox fan fiction together and argue over lore.

Morrigan was the most interesting and was the one I'd prefer to take with me on any quest. She's a complete ****** but in games it's amusing, as is the story if you follow her counsel.

I like all companions, but Leliana is my favorite. Sweet romance, great voice acting...and she loves shoes!

Velanna is my favorite in Awakening.

One thing I like about Finn (and maybe that other mage who hides in the shelf) is that they are the "anti-Anders" or anti-Jowan.. they actually like the Circle and just being "eggheads", as you say. I don't expect every mage to be like that, but it's good to see the different perspective. Usually all the mage stories are politically charged. It gets a little tiresome. Sometimes I just want to see Hogwarts or something.
