I need to watch this movie with my dad. He got me hooked on Marvel and the entire Guardians of the Galaxy series, including Annihilation and Annihilation: Conquest.

That's Lee Pace. You may know him as Thranduil from the Hobbit films. He was also Fernando Wood, one of the key Democratic representatives, in Lincoln. American audiences might know him as Ned from Pushing Daisies.

Also that end credits was just hilarious. Nice movie / company reference.

Was a bit surprised when I discovered Lee Pace played Ronan when the end credits rolled. Didn't recognize him at all.
I knew it was him coming in, so I had an idea of what to look for. The makeup was pretty heavy, but his voice was very recognizable and his eyes/brow were easy to identify.

Oh yes. If you pay attention in the first few Collector scenes, you can already see...that character...in his case.

Heh, my wife and younger daughter have no desire to see this movie. Me and my older daughter, however, are ready to get in line right now to see this one.
What?!!!!! They don't like to laugh? Maybe they should watch Footloose instead, might help work those sticks out of there asses.

Huh, well I missed it completely. Viewing it a second time I might go "Ah yeah, of course its him". Then again, knowing who the actor is strengthens the realization and perceptiveness.

I also didn't catch that Lee Pace was Ronan at all. The make up was extremely well done.

Fantastic movie. The main villain was bland and forgettable, tho. He was exactly like the evil elf from Thor: Dark World.
Also, Vin Diesel should have played Drax.

Kinda sad that Lee Pace did play such a forgettable character.

I'm as pumped for this movie as I probably never have been for another superhero movie! It pained me so much to find out that GOTG breaks the tradition of Marvel Studios movies being released here in Germany the same time as in most places (we usually had the UK opening date) - we don't get to meet Star-Lord and the rest of the bunch before August ****** 28.

Which is why me and some friends are going on a little roadtrip to Denmark next week. Groot with Danish subtitles for the win!

How did they manage to pull this movie off? It's like Indiana Jones in space, or Star Wars if Han Solo was the main character and the movie was a comedy, painted with the palette of the 5th Element, and ME2's Omega and Illium. It does successfully what The Fantastic Four and Green Lantern tried so desperately to do, inject just the right amount of wonder and comedy within a plausibly authentic story that by turns takes itself seriously enough to get the audience to care, and when it does not throws in a bit of whimsy and spontaneity to make you laugh.
Its almost too good a movie to attempt to live up to in a sequel.
P.S. I read an article in USA Today that said the movie had a blockbuster opening because audiences trust the Marvel brand. Is that true for anyone here? I wanted to see it when I saw in February that it was going to have a raccoon with a machine gun.

I think people just thought it would be a funny movie based off of the trailers. It seemed like every movie released in the last few months had a trailer for it.

We saw it yesterday. IMAX 3D. All of us loved it. Groot rules. Rocket kicks major ass and the rest of the Guardians are sufficiently badass. Awesome movie. I think I'm going to see it again in the theater (and I never do that).

Saw Guardians of the Galaxy a few days ago, and I'm pleased to join the chorus of praise for the movie. Sure, there are some moments where the handling of exposition is a bit awkward, and I don't know if I'll ever love Marvel action sequences, but I'll be damned if this movie isn't just fun as hell.
The cast of characters and actors is terrific, with Chris Pratt leading the way as our designated wise-cracking Han Solo-esque hero (some have described him as a character who thinks he's Han Solo, but in a way, that's the whole point: Even Han Solo just thinks he's Han Solo). And I was surprised at the amount of pathos the film was able to wring from characters who superficially look as if they would be walking jokes.
All in all, it's about as much fun as I've had at the movies in a while, and proof that as long as you do Story 101 right, it doesn't much matter how ridiculous or out there the premise of your movie is.

I went in expecting nothing and was blown away. My favourite Marvel film to date. It's just had such a good tone for me, personally - I needed to be cheered up and the elements and humour throughout the film brought great pleasure while watching it.
Also, Groot's scene with the flower was my favourite - was not expecting it, so it brought a lil' spi tear down my cheek.
