Lack of DA-based BDSM content outside of mods? :police:

It's not much but this is an improvement over the rape request threads from last year.

We're constantly torturing people anyways by setting them on fire/poisoning them/turning them into a literal walking bomb/insert your choice of painful ability here. And then we murder them.

So why can't we torture them for information?

Me thinks Bioware is trying to play it safe by being PC as much as possible.

The rape requests were ridiculous. The requests for torture for the practical purpose of intel-gathering? Not so much.

Like I said, small steps.

They probably won't because it's not politically correct.

Or maybe because it's disgusting.  Just because things happen in real life doesn't mean they're good in a video game.  I'd have no interest in a game that included torture or rape or violence against children, etc.  I would say seek your torture porn somewhere else.

Skyrim, Dishonored, and The Wolf Among Us are best avoided then. They all use torture to gain information.

Its not about torture porn. Saw is torture porn. This is about intelligence-gathering. Whether it "works" or not would remain to be seen.

When Battlestar Galactica decided to depict it, they had severe problems with the Sci-Fi Network over the episode (see comments at the bottom). The "victim" is a human-looking Cylon. The human-looking Cylons, of course, can apparently feel pain and have emotions (which is why they can be tortured).

P.S. I do not agree with people who say that episode condoned the practice (like some say "24" did). Especially if you read Leoben's last dialogue before Roslin arrives. I think the "reading" of it can be far more ambiguous.

Well, I notice every time I slip into discussing the real world, thread lock follows shortly thereafter ... of course, this one will probably be locked soon, anyway.

Hat tip: it doesn't work. (Aside from whether it is immoral or violates fundamental human rights.)

Any step forward is appreciated.

But to be fair the game is called Inquisition even though Bio is pc, while this thread is a good one for quoting Roose Bolton.

@Starsyn, you're fortunate.

I think the problem is that while there is a justified and intelligent argument as to why it would add depth to the game given the setting, there is also an argument to be made for not including it because of how it would be utilised by users.

The "slap Morrigan" mod is a pretty good indication of where a feature like this would lead.

I'm pretty sure you can't be a serial killer, either. Most murder knife prompts tend to at least pretend there's a reason for it. It's not like you were luring random townspeople into dark alleys.

Pretty much. People love to say that about characters in RPGs, but the fact of the matter is that most RPGs have a fairly passive violence system, in that others attack YOU when they see you. It's not like you're some Dexter.

One notable exception was in DA:O when a party of "adventurers" was taking some type of note somewhere, I think it was for the Mages Collective questline, and you had to stop them. You actually had to initiate the fight, by threatening them. It was a very unique circumstance. It'd be nice if they used this to stronger effect in DA I.

I've mentioned this in another thread but, fix that by making it a specific moment during the game where it becomes a moral dilemma, your companions and troops react accordingly and there you go. Its no different than any other dilemma in the series and it fits the Dark medieval fantasy setting especially one thats being headlined as an "Inquisition" but apparently any notion that suggests this is branded as someone who enjoys "torture porn".
Regardless its confirmed not to be in the game so we'll leave it at that

Inquisition without torture is like shoemaker without shoes...
They shouldn't`t name the game like that. It`s like you name your army SS
and then tell everybody that they are going to pick flowers..
The Inquisition has weight behind it after more then 300 years of terror and fear.
They should not ignore it because alot.of people will be misled.

Oh, I imagine the declaration we've all already seen will be in the FAQ file for the game, once there is an official one. The question will come up again, I'm sure.

Just because Y has X doesn't mean Z has to have X too. Seriously what half-assed reasoning is that?

It'll probably get hand-waved away, but it would at least be nice if said torture happened off-screen. Something like -

Guard: "Inquisitor, we captured this Red Templar and he refuses to disclose the location of their stronghold. Your command?"

*game gives player several options, torture being one of them*

Next time you visit that particular keep, the guard will return with the results of your choice. Those who are seeking a more authentic inquisition get their torture, and BioWare can avoid the fallout by having it occur behind the scenes.

BioWare doesn't need to shove torture it in our faces to have it included in the game.
