Indeed! Thank you, Bioware!

I have to say, it is indeed a relief to see a positive thread for once. I have grown ever so weary of the pointless, "Bioware dun fukked up again," topics. I appreciate your optimism sir.

I can't wait for Inquisition. Although I greatly desire to start as a Qunari, I fear my vanity will take over and make me choose a human instead.

There is a difference between "traveling freely" and holding lands, having an army, being judge, jury and executioner - because that's what an inquisitor is.

No Thedosian would accept giving a qunari such position and power over them.
Hell, they don't allow mages to hold lands or titles, but giving qunari power is ok?

To be fair you could say the same about a non human or mage Warden also no one seemed to care about the armed elf and/or obvious apostate in your party in both games.

Yes, it is a problem in every game.
People not properly reacting to you being a blood mage or dalish is not a good thing.

But to really adress your background properly requires a lot of a resources. And with each new race/class/sex that warrants a different reponse, that cost raises exponentially.

Given that they are giving us MORE races in DA:I, I highly dobut we'll be seeing a lot of responses/reactivity to them.
Besides, without an origin such backgrounds can't be as immersive and relevant.

Orginis gave a clear starting point and gave an immediate opportunity to shape your character, providing a soldid base for further content.
A City elf has a defined background, wit hdefined friend and a specific outlook.
A dwarv noble or a dwarf common have compeltely different ones.

Since DA:I won't have origin "prolouges" and everyone starts the same, there is a lot less starting (self-)definition of your character and a lot less special connections/hooks for later.

I'll add as well my happiness about having the races back. :o <3
I played so many times through DA Origins, and part of it was because I could choose between different races which changed slightly the game feeling.

On the plus side, people can fill in the blanks to fit their personal backstories more. Granted it will only be in the player's mind, but it works.

It's nice to have options but I guess I'm going to stick with a human :)

I'll add my thanks here as well.

I admit, I didn't play as an elf or a dwarf very often in DA:O, but once DAII rolled around and those options were gone, I found myself missing them. Now that the playable races are back, with the added qunari race, I'm even more excited for DA:I than I ever was before.

So I give you my sincere thanks, Bioware, and I wish you luck with this and any future projects you may have planned.

I will still only play as a human.

But yeah, it's always good for an RPG to have variety in it, even when players may not take advantage of it.

I'm really glad as well! Maybe 5% of my DA:O playthroughs were human. It's nice to see that other perspective occasionally, but I find them boring. Being forced to be human was one of the most disappointing things about DA2. Race options=automatic purchase for me, even if by some chance the rest of the game ends up looking crappy.

I'm with you, so really thanks Bioware; not only for bringing back race selection, tactical camera, and so on...but for the beautiful and immersive world you built and for the great games you developed so far. Thanks!!!
P.S.: thank you to Faerunner too, 'cause it's always nice to see a positive thread!!! :)

The inclusion of races is what made some of my interest in this game return (though I will remain cautious till the day of release), so I am glad they changed their minds. The Origins may actually be my favorite part of DAO, and I liked the different contexts and perspectives playing different races and origins offered. That Hawke could only be human was very disappointing.
