Having trouble with screenshots in DA:Origins

Meilleure réponse schalafi , 05 mars 2014 - 12:12

Erik, the strangest thing happened, I was looking through my program files and ran across a program I never heard of before. I looked it up on
"Search" and found it was some kind of "uinstall" program, and so I deleted it, and for some reason it was affecting my "user" screenshots. They work fine now, but I still don't know how that program got on my pc.

Anyway, thank you and all the others who tried to figure out my problem, I really appreciate it!

I can get all the game screenshots, but when I try to take a screenshot my "Print Screen" doesn't work. I can use it on DA:2, but not on Origins. Is there something I'm failing to do?

Try to bind screenshot to a different key than "Print Screen", there is a possibility that Windows is hijacking that key and prevents the game from saving a screenshot to your DA-folder. (usually "MyDocuments\BioWare\Dragon Age\Screenshots"), and instead copies it forcing you to paste it manually in some other software.

Additionally, if you use the Steam-version of the game, you can always use the screenshot option through the Steam overlay.

Thanks for answering me, could you possibly suggest  a key to bind "Screenshots" to?  I have no idea what key might work. I'm not very technically adept.

Does not really matter what you bind it to, but try to bind it to something that is not conflicting with any Winsows hotkeys.

Try to bind it to any regular letter for instance. "S" or "P" or "K" etc.

Just find one the game is not using and see if it works for you :)

Thank you Eirik, I tried binding "print screen" to the letter "L", but it still doesn't work. I guess I'll just have to be satisfied with the game screenshots, or maybe I'll uninstall the game and reinstall it. Otherwise, I give up.

Maybe I misunderstood the question.

In game it works fine. Print Screen does not.

Brings up the question of why you want to use Print Screen? Most games will just produce a black screen (and if not, it has to be pasted into a third party graphics program, i.e. Microsoft Paint).

That any help to you?

Joseph

Joseph, I like to take my own screenshots, not just the ones the game takes. I never had any trouble using Print Screen and getting user screenshots before, but I had to reinstall DA:O and it just doesn't work. How can I copy and paste it into Microsoft Paint, when my User Screenshot folder is always empty?

I had this happen to me about a year ago. Found some help from an old thread, back then. It may sound strange, but it really does seem to work, and it is quite simple.

1) Start up the game.

2) Hit the "Lock/Unlock" key

3) Alt+Tab out of the game, then open the game window back up.

4) Take a screenshot.

5) Go into your Document folder that has User Screenshots, and see if the new picture is there.

Why this works....*shrug* lol! I honestly don't know. And, I do have to do it before I start every play session. However, it now works every time. Hope this helps. ;)

The post by "themikefest" is one you should read.

Just as an answer to your question, the functionality of the "Print Screen" button only holds the image (1 at a time) in memory. It does NOT add it to any folder, hence the need to use a third party program. Perhaps you were using some other program (such a FRAPS that utilized the print screen key???).

Joseph

N.B. I stand corrected as I do not have Windows 8: "If using Windows 8, merely click the Windows Key + Print Screen to automatically save a full-screen screenshot within the Screenshots folder of your picture directory."

Alternatively, switch to Windowed mode and use printscreen/paste.  It should work.

Hah, thanks. I learned something new about Windows 8 today. I'll be using that a lot from now on :)

@ schalafi: Has any of the workarounds above helped you out, or are you still just as stuck?

The curse of open platforms. Anything can and will happen. Glad you got it working, however unlikely the solution :)
