Pls bsn, stay calm and be grateful you have a face... What I want to know is if the default faces are going to be unique like Hawke and Shepard. I wanted to put Hawke's beard on my custom face. :(

We both know there will be "default" presets though.

There will be defaults. It makes life easier for folks who want to fire up the game and dive in right away without spending half an hour on chargen (people who aren't me, in other words).

As long as they don't make us play through half an hour of prologue or tutorial looking at a default face, I'll be happy.

This. A million times this.

I'm nor against there being some preset options in the character creation screen, but have them randomize which one is the first one to pop up. It defeats the entire purpose of the character creator when millions of your users just choose the first option given to them and all wind up looking exactly the same.

And don't even get me started on why marketing a default appearance for a game that offers so much character creation choice is not only silly, but very misleading and harmful.

I don't really see any harm in a "default" appearance, as long as it is optional. It is a single player game, thus it
doesn't really matter if everyone looks the same.
And marketing? They will most probably have a trailer-Inquisitor anyways. Lets say that one is a female Qunari,
will that lead to everyone believing that you will have to play as such? I doubt it..
Especially since they are advertising the game with the feature to model your character, so I REALLY doubt
a default or a trailer option will make many people believe you can't model your character...

Although I have to admit that I would prefer it if the default would be the first preset - since I usually use a nice
preset and the tweak it to my liking and more starting options are always nice =P

Why would you ever want to use defaults?

That's the problem - advertising with a set character (like Male Hawke) makes people think that is the main character, not that there is some way to modify your appearance or play style. Which could out off some people, or have them totally ignorant of a feature Bioware has spent millions of dollars in development and labor creating.

That's harmful. Or, at the least, actively wasteful.

I can't yet speak for Hawke, but default male Shepard definitely looks leagues better overall than anything I've ever seen anyone create with the editor, triply so for fellow console players.

When I saw the Ads for Origins (sorry, I rarely watch them, so no idea about the ones for
DA2) the feature was mentioned. Most new player play this game either through Advertising
or because of friends... If it is told in advertisement, I see no problem with it -and certainly no
risk in it.. or do you think people can't read or listen (depending where they see the Ad)

I don't have much control over my own face, why should I have control over the PCs?

This seems like the definition of storm in a teacup. I can't see how not having a default face for the Inquisitor is even possible (like not having a default world state). Moreover, I can't see how that impacts anything. I saw a world of Warcraft ad once, it had a Mage of some form, who had a face. It never entered my mind that that was the only face available. Of course, I still didn't play it, because MP, but having a default face is simply a requirement for most people. It allows 'tweaks' rather tha having to build a face from scratch. This isn't dragon age:the sims (and even the sims have defaults....)

Ofc i want preset face. Ofc it is better with it. Some people dont care about how they char look, plus preset character always has some better textures. Plus it is way easier for marketing.
If the inquisitor default face is like this in the pre alpha video he looks a lot like Todd Lasance.
The more important question is why would you care for such petty unimportant thing.

I don't know who that is, but ok.

I don't know that it is better, or even that I 'want' it. I just don't think it is possible without making character creation a complete mess and an un-fun burden for the player. Not to mention a likely coding nightmare for the developers.

Perhaps the dislike for it is akin to the stresses created by being unable to distinguish between 'default world state' and 'canon'.

Really? I always greatly prefer my customs, especially since I do many playthroughs and want to be different each time. I think my custom shep in my avatar is a sexy beast and he was made on console. :D

One of the better ones I've seen, I'll concede that! Do the animations for various emotional states translate especially well on him, though? What I've found from watching friends' files is that while default male is far from peerless in that regard, everyone else's can be terrible at times.

Another problem I have is after four default runs it's weird hearing Meer's voice out of anything else, but I fully admit that's a "me" thing. :P

i am the kind of guy who spends hours tweaking his characters to be JUST right, and restarting if they look off in the actual game light but for da2 I used default face for my canon hawke. I did this because both male and female hawke default hair options, specifically femhawkes hair and male hawkes beard, we're the two styles I wanted to use. This is why I hope for no default faces in DA I, or at least no restricted styles for defaults in the game. The return of races has made me think it will be like origins where there were defaults but you could use any hairstyle available and completely customize them, at least I hope so". :)

It's all a matter of preference. I usually use custom faces, but I tried default male and female once each for Hawke (never the warden, though). I agree the defaults look better than any of the customs, but it won't stop me trying.

The thing I can't get my head around, is why it bothers people who know they can use customs or defaults and are going to get the game anyway. It seems people will find a reason to worry about almost anything. I remember when the sacred ashes trailer for origins was released, a poster was upset that we didn't see Alistair, saying, 'I guess they have their canon'. Just a strange thing to worry about, given we knew Alistair would be in the game by that point.

To about 95% of DA fans, character creation is not even close to a "waste of time"
