You can use any weapons you like in ME3. Shotguns are popular because of the high burst output: Charge in and blast them with your shotgun for an insta-kill on lower tier enemies. In multiplayer my preferred weapon for my Asari Vanguard is the Eagle automatic pistol because of its light weight and because I prefer automatic wepons over semi-auto, or single shot shotguns. SMGs are another viable option with Vanguards as long as you have a High Velocity Barrel or Armor Piercing Ammo. (Garrus can provide the squad with armor piercing ammo if you don't want to use it yourself as your bonus power.) Just as long as you keep your weight down you can use any weapon suite you want.
The downside of a Vanguard is its repetitive nature. Charge/Shoot/Charge/Shoot/Charge, over and over and over. For myself, I also found the class to be too high strung in single player. I like playing Vanguard in multiplayer because the matches are short. In single player I wanted a more relaxed play style, one that gave me time to evaluate the battlefield rather than feverishly searching for the next target to Charge.

And what is Your opinion on Adept Class in ME3?

I have never really had the heart to play an adept in me3 simply because Liara's singularity outclasses Shepard's. I find that demoralizing. I do like adept in me2 quite a bit (I am playing one now). I guess you could play an adept without singularity and focus on combo's with Liara, Kaiden and Javik. But in that case I would just as soon go with a Sentinel. (Vanguard also combo's well with your biotic team mates. Of course, Vanguard can also combo with tech team mates.)

Liara's singularity may be better (though not THAT much). But she doesn't have Shockwave, and your warp and lifts are better. So to me, adept is still fun. Of course, it keeps Liara playing Information Broker the whole game. But that's not a bad thing to some people.cap and gown wrote...
There is no "heavy" armor in me2 or me3. There is just armor which you can modify for various different bonuses, such as increased shield strength, or increased weapon damage, or increased power damage, etc

I find the Vanguard to be the most fun class for exciting combat although you have to be a little careful with the nova playing at harder settings. I typically choose Carnage as a bonus power for times when charging is not advantageous.
My favorite maneuver is to charge and then when my victim is on the ground plug them full of incendiary ammo rounds from my Harrier rifle at point blank range.
I typically pay up to maximize an assault rifle and a pistol to keep my cooldown rates optimal. I often run out of ammo with a Harrier rifle, thus the need for a pistol. The Revenant is also good for this style of play with it's neverending clip.

Vanguard is indestructible class with right combination of powers. Charge + shotgun + nova = epic winning.
