I got "I love you, Grunt" with a femshep and "You're my hero, Grunt" with a maleshep. I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
Ive seen videos where manshep says "I love you Grunt."

There's another I saw on YouTube where when Shepard is having the "flatterer" conversation with Liara in ME3 Shepard asks Liara how long asari live instead of the "gee, that young" comment. There must be some requirement that involves Shepard never learning how long asari live until ME3.

It's weird how there are small variations in dialogue like this that I wasn't even aware of. I always got "I love you Grunt."

I am guessing the latter variation is used for non-import games. For import games the designers would assume you already know about Asari longevity. For non-import games they probably assume you are new to the series and this is a way of filling in some of the lore.
As to "you're my hero," I have never heard that, though I usually play femshep, or pick at least one of the renegade options.

I considered that. I's hard to believe anyone can just jump into ME3 without an import.
The Citadel DLC is too cheerful at times. The "I love you Grunt" dialogue is one example. I don't see my Shepard saying that; especially after sabotaging the genophage cure. I actually find Grunt kind of repulsive regarding his love for killing. It makes me glad the krogan are still almost sterile.

That's how I started.

Well, I know people do that. But it really devalues the experience. I waited until ME1 finally came to the PS3 to start playing. For years I just watched the series.

For FemShep, it's always "I love you, Grunt." and for MaleShep, picking the renegade will lead to "I love you, Grunt." while the paragon is otherwise....

No matter what I chose, the noodles were always a little spicy.
