does anyone remember runescape? no arguments about body models back in the good old days of polygons.

I'm opposed to the entire notion of diversity for the sake of diversity. It's not BioWare's job to make great fat characters or great black characters or great huge female characters. If you approach writing/designing/creating like that then you've removed art from the equation and made into just that: an equation.

Is it diversity for the sake of diversity though? If nothing else I would think it's diversity for the sake of appealing to a wider audience.

That is diversity for the sake of diversity. And are those the sorts of people you want playing your games? People who only support products that feature people that look like them?

Wouldn't you want as many people as possible to play your games? Why would you want to exclude anyone? I don't think I understand what exactly is bad about diversity here. I'd rather have variety then a bunch of characters that look the same. That would be boring. I'd rather play games that have characters I can identify with.

How about we just stop struggling to be politically correct, accept that human male will naturally search for something to fantasize about boning especially during the precious few hours of his day set apart solely for entertainment, and as a gaming company the audience of which is largely made up from relatively younger male gamers, Bioware has to take advantage of that.

May be we can manage to ignore these trivialities and just focus on the quality of the actual story content, may be.

lol :kissing: Okay... Well if you're going that route, isn't it common knowledge now that gamers' average age is 30+ and females make up 45% of that?

My biggest complaint with the female models in many games (besides how much they signal women's breasts and curves) is that the muscles don't match that of a warrior. Even Aveline, who everybody said was built like a human battering ram, had arms skinnier then mine!

I know Bioware would have to use the PC's body for NPCs but really I could care less if every women was toned and well-muscled. I just a female hero built like a warrior and not a swimsuit model.

I would dearly love to see stronger looking women in games.

In looking at this, I can't help but notice that the only pair where the musculature between the male and female models appear to be the same species are the elves.  The other females need a lot more muscle mass, imho.

Almost 33 is considered old?  No wonder my bones are creaking at almost 25.

I agree... then again I like muscular women more then swimsuit models.

this a personal theory of mine I think besides fanservice the reason females in video games, anmie, and comics  have large beasts and/or hips is early on and to degree still those meda tend to be a little androgynous.

at least it goes both ways though. I mean yes the women characters are sexualized in those media types, but so are the men characters by having them all be thin, fit, attractive guys.

Ignoring the other media like comics (because if I talk about those I won't shut up), at least the men in games look the part. They have muscles because they have to complete tough and physically demanding tasks, thereby they need to be fit and strong to meet those challenges.

Women in video games most of the time don't look the part. They have no muscle tone at all, their armor barely covers their bodies, and the clothing they do have is just there to signal out their breasts, butts, and whatever curves they have. Unless they're trying to seduce the enemy I don't see them getting far on the battlefield.

I don't care if the women look attractive, I just want them to look like they're fighters, not models.

Why? Is my money any less green than a straight white male's money? And I won't play a game that doesn't provide me with the option to play my gender (female) and a character with my skin tone (brown). After 20+ years of playing video games, I'm way over the white male PC and mostly white NPCs.

For the record, Vivienne is one of the major reasons I'll be preordering Inquisition and Vella is the main reason for my interest in Broken Age. And my white, of-Polish-descent husband, whom I've loved for the past 9 years, is well aware of my opinion before the "omgz u h8 white peepz!" starts.

They were complaining about that back when she was first introduced.

"Why do I have to spend all this time in cutscenes with this woman with a butch haircut who only looks so-so?"

Oh but don't you know that making games for YOU is considered "pandering to diversity" *snort* :innocent:

This whole conversation reminds me of this great comic: http://www.shortpack...dex.php?id=1998

One problem I had with DA:2 was the issue of the body types. I make a warrior and it was immersion breaking cause I was not convinced that such a scrawny character model could swing around such a huge blade like that.

i was thinking more how BSN tends to flip flop on issues. My favorite example is in the ME boards involving Harbinger's dialogue. After ME2, people hated how he wouldn't shut up, yet in ME3 when he was silent, the same people complained that he should talk more.

Edit: Also, glad to see someone else besides me use the Shiala avatar, albeit different ones.

I don't know if it's so much that the BSN flip-flops, but rather different people say the opposite things.

Most times it is as you say, Mr. Schumacher. But sometimes, like the Harbinger thing I used as an example, it is the same people.

Saying BSN flip-flops makes it easier to paint the fanbase as a buch of nut cases who shouldn't be listened to.

Just as an example though with the Harbinger example, the same people can think that they thought Harbinger talked too much in ME2 while still thinking its terrible for him to not talk at all in ME3 having it so he was more like Sovereign.

Yes because BSN is a person... and this person only has 1 idea ever..... serously.....

Also your example is pretty ****** poor... "people complained because there is too much of X, but they also complin that there is none " for me thats like a big "Duh!" of course they will compain.

People complain because there is too much Chocoloate, people complain after you remove all the chocoloate from the world.

Same difference.

I didn't mean it as an insult. Just an observation I've noticed over the years I've read this place. I should have said some BSN users though instead of just BSN, so for that I apologize.

Alright.  Show me every BSN user who said they thought Harbinger talked too much and also an example of them saying they hated him as well.

Women are less bulky then us men, the bodies have reflected that in the DA universe. If your complaint is that women in the DA or mass effect verse are too sexy, the men are pretty good looking as well. From Kaiden, Default Shepard, and the Illusive Man.

If it were the same, there'd be closeup Miranda!shots of Kaidan's backside.

But these forums aren't about Mass Effect, so....
