Or a puppet.

Which is what I think Eamon was hoping for.  I only put hardened Alistair on the throne and either marry him (Cousland) or become his chancellor (Amell/Surana).  He makes a good king, but I think it's better for everyone if he stays a GW.

People in the game suggest unhardened Alistair is a lot like Cailan. Since Cailan was also an poor king. I think he only becomes Eamon puppet if he is unhardened and marries no one. I personally think the only bad outcome is putting unhardened Alistair on the throne alone.

I always feel bad putting Anora on the Throne alone when she gives the Elves another Smack down, just because they are starving.

I agree. It doesn't happen with a harden Alistair. This is why I like making him king alone. It is only -2 points to do it.

I'm not sure if David Gaider ever mentioned if his novels/comic books are going to stay close with the Dragon Age games, but after reading Dragon Age: The Silent Grove, Dragon Age: Those Who Speak, and Dragon Age: Until We Sleep, I've become a big fan of Alistair as a King and person. Before I read the comic books, I would place my male Warden as King (or Prince-Consort, blah) with Anora as my Queen, but I still play DA:O and am in a current playthrough right now with the intentions of putting Alistair as a hardened King alone.

The Grey Warden story is awesome and all, but at the end of the day, he is of Theirin blood, and Alistair is a good man who can do a lot more good as King of Ferelden than a Grey Warden rebuilding the order. Any other Grey Warden can rebuild the order in Ferelden, and with the people as options to become King/Queen, it's not that appealing to me. I have it in my mind that my female Dalish Elf is back to wandering in peace, and my male Warden reunites and follows Morrigan in Witch Hunt. I don't want my characters as King/Queen and I definitely don't want Anora as Queen, so that leaves me with Alistair, who I think is a fine choice.

I think Gaider has said the comics are only canon if your Warden makes those choices. My Warden chose the throne and let Alistair become a drunk, so that's not likely to happen in my case.

I've seen drunken Alistair on Youtube, but I can never get myself to leave him that miserable. I won't let him be happy just being a Grey Warden, but I do force him to become King even though he doesn't want to be one. Poor Alistair...

Well-it seems to end well for him. Teagan comes in at the end and says he  is bringing him back to Ferelden. I can think of only a couple reasons that might happen. The Warden disappears and they're worried about dynastic succession or Anora died a natural death and it's safe for him to return to Ferelden. Either way, I think they're headed to civil war in the future by the start of DAI.

Another civil war in Ferelden? That would be interesting to see how they put that together. They could tie in the comic book plot of Alistair being gone in his search for his father, King Maric, only to come back home to a great deal of changes. That would be one way.
