@Grave of the Fireflies: Well, it'd be hard to "like" the movie, without spoiling anything.

It was a movie made with the express purpose of telling the spoiled brats Japan had at the time to check their privilage, grow up, and appreciate the life they had. It wasn't to tell a story. It was only to envoke sadness in people.
It's singlehandedly Miyazakis worst film, and I don't even enjoy most of his films to begin with.

Not bait if it's legitimately how I feel.
I rate your comment 7/10 would not recommend m8

Do you realize it's based off the author's own life experiences?

Well aware. But I'm talking about the film itself, and the strictly political reasons it was made. Not the book. Nor the author himself.
But perhaps it's unfair for me to judge a movie not made for my Time period, therefore losing relevance in itself.

So, from a film's perspective - besides the emotional aspect it's portraying, what's your main beef(s) with it?

The 2 biggest problems I have.
1. The random montage that happens for the express purpose of making the Audience feel bad because children are adorable. Instead of the characters relevance to the protagonist.
2. That stare done at the end of the movie, just to break the 4th wall and REALLY continually dig the message if the film into your skull, much like a railroad spike.

The Wicker Man remake with Nicolas Cage is pretty bad. It starts out OK as a sort of offbeat mystery, but there's a point at which weird creepiness can turn into unintentional comedy and that movie definitely reached it. And I imagine anyone who's ever seen it will understand why the following lines are funny:

"How'd it get burned? HOW'D IT GET BURNED HOW'D IT GET BURNED HOW'D IT GET BURNED!???!!?!?!?!??!"

"Step AWAY...from the BIKE."

And of course the venerable (though only available as a deleted scene):

"Oh no not the bees! NOT THE BEES! NOTTHEBEESNOTTHEBEESNOTTHEBEES!!!! AHHH!!! MY EEEEEYYYYEEESSSS!"
