 Ho there,
I am not sure if this has been brought up before, but are elf magi allowed to be Dalish in the upcoming Inquisition?

I have recently started going back to Dragon Age: Origins and while I am continuing my elf mage playthrough this particular thing came up my mind----that there have been quite some Dalish magi in Dragon Age:

1. Merrill from the Dalish origins and in Dragon Age 2 (uses blood magic)

2. Lanaya and Zathrian (also a blood mage)in Origins are both Dalish, and Keepers

3. Velanna in Awakening is Dalish, with a manner of anti-human agenda

There also has been a mod that allow Origins elf to be a Dalish mage
So here we have not a single, but multiple example how Dalish magi are well established in the lore, despite the protagonist has never been able to be one yet. Now, I just would like to know from the community and developers (if you think it is okay to reveal this) if the dream of being a Dalish mage PC will finally be realized in Inquisition

Ma serannas

Yes the elven mage is Dalish, this was confirmed during the playable race podcast around the 38 minute mark.

I believe they've confirmed that the Elven mage option is Dalish.

Oh cool. I hope then that the fighter is a city elf.

Yeah, the Warrior/Rogue Elf backstory will probably be a City Elf since the Mage Elf is Dalish.

I don't think that the Devs have officially confirmed this (maybe I am wrong, I usually am.. oh wait )
But it is a general impression that the elvish mage will be of dalish origin......

If the elven mage does end up being Dalish (since dev comments made last fall might not reflect the final product), then I will definitely do an elven mage playthrough.

It was confirmed by Luke Kristjanson during the podcast I mentioned in my last post during the pax panel that was recorded by nerd appropriate, to be more specific he said this when asked by one of the people asked them if we can play as a Dalish mage.

"So my question is simply, will we be able to play as a Dalish mage"

Luke

Um yes and I can mention that we are exploring um uh uh I lied before( this part is due to something he said earlier on). Yeah backgrounds and race are a part of, also we are investigating that maybe a mage character is different enough that they need a particular background that serves them better then being a human, elf, or Qunari.

I'm fairly sure that both the Dalish mage and the backgrounds are final and have been for awhile since Luke said that they hand picked them for a specific reason and he hinted at the other elven set being from the alieniage.

Luke

So an example might be that the elves come from an alieange..., so you might've noticed the surnames on the demo, the surnames were on the save game filies and they're getting chewed apart and analyzed as we speak.

Those are names we hand picked because some of them have a history and some of them will have a history by the time we're done, don't know how much more I can talk about.

They did say they would release them at some point after editing them to remove the early game spoilers due to the backgrounds having different reasons for being at the veil tear opening sequence and some other spoiler stuff.

It would be awesome if the elven warrior/rogue were part of the city elf rebellion in Orlais.

The Dalish might be in the region as well, since the Arlathvhen could be taking place (since it was eluded to in Dragon Age II). The Dalish and the rebel elves of the Orlesian Alienage might converse about a potential coup against the Orlesian Empire during their civil war.

That would be very interesting to see...Considering that the civil war will weaken significantly the Orlesian empire. But I doubt it will happen in Inquisition.Anything is possible though...

Damn, I was hoping that the Rogue/Warrior Elf would also be Dalish, has it been done before? Yes, does that mean I wanted it less? Nay!

One thing I really hope to have is access to plant manipulation spells.
I could quite happily be cool with say the petrify being moved to entropy and the animation looking like the origin one rather than the da2 animation.
For primal school, petrify could be replaced by an entangle spell where instead of stone encasing the enemy, vines are instead. If they have a power evolution option maybe DOT poison or increase the radius to entrap more enemies.

Could you link the source?  I'd like something new to read about DAI.

They talked about it during the pax podcasts from nerd appropriate, they said that mages will have their own sets that diverge from the rest and that they'll likely only do a mage and non mage set instead of doing a ton of them with limted content, they want and are doing fewer with tons of content in them beyond what we've seen in the past.

Since Dalish mage was confirmed as one of the sets, what they said about the backgrounds in generl, that Luke K confirmed Dalish mage while hinting at the other set being from the alienage among other things that indicate that's the way they're going.

From everything they've said there's probably only going to be 7 backgrounds in DAI.

It is better if the Dalish Mage is a Keeper and also an Arcane Warrior...

We still don't know what the specializations are but Gaider did say that we shouldn't expect the old ones back for a number of reasons.

As for them being a keeper of their clan that might be possible but so might them being an apprentice or a first or someone exiled or left their clan, we really don't know yet since they haven't given much info.

I just listened to that podcast and I have to say that it came across to me that they were heavily considering making the elven mage dalish, but that it was just a possiblity they were exploring. I definitely wouldn't consider that podcast as final confirmation. Although I am slightly biased cause I really don't want to play a dalish Inquisitor.

I assume there plenty of backgrounds to choose from,in case you want to play a mage. I think the Dalish mage background (considering it ends up being so)won't be the only option as there are also a qunari mage and possibly a human mage background.
