I have yet to be successful with a Paladin build that specs into Energy Drain (with the exception of when I happen to be fighting Geth.)

I keep trying different ways of doing it, but I just can't get Energy Drain to work for me. My most successful builds have been when I spec out of it completely.

It s very usefull to detonate CE on shield or barrier. And to get a free shield too  + DR

If your not using the shield you're doing it wrong.. ditto for incinerate. I only put 3 in Energy Drain.. just enough to get your gate back.. the other 5 in passives.

energy drain only detonates IF the target is a synthetic aka geth, and or has shields/barriers. any target with health/armor cannot be detonated with ED.

This but ED is a stunning power against organics for headshotting.

You are crippling the guy by skipping Incinerate, and that's just facts. even vs geth. When fighting geth you can snap freeze first, then incinerate for a cryo explosion and then follow it with ED for a incindiary explosion.... by just having SF&ED you are missing out on double tech explosion shennanigans with the paladin.... so l2build b4 you attempt to l2p... simplest explanation . lulz

6/6/6/4/4 is the perfect build for him. max powers, max health, only thing u miss out on is cryo/fireshield and nether are needed tbh.

You should probably understand the full power of the Fire Shield before dismissing it.

N7 Paladin light melee is among the best melee attacks in the game, and Fire Shield makes it prime for a FE without the need to clutter up your GCD with primers.

You should prob understand that my gameplay differs from yours. I do fully understand it, and again it's not needed.

To be honest a lot of stuff on the N7 Paladin isn't "needed". I've run him with great effectiveness as 0/6/6/6/6 and 6/0/6/6/6 before so I'd say that Energy Drain or Incinerate aren't "needed" either.

All I'm saying is that Fire Shield shouldn't be so quickly dismissed, as it is extremely powerful.

If you wanna run him as a melee build that's fine, but i just don't see the point in it... tech explosions  via powers or tech explosions via priming with the shield. I can use incinerate at range, I  can't use fire shield at range to me that makes incinerate better... it's just matter of opinion and playstyle

I'm with Cyonan on this one. I skip passives and rock that fire shield. I can't give up super fast level 6 fire explosions. It makes boss units a joke. Melee->Snap freeze gets you a fire explosion and won't make a banshee put up her barrier absoption crap My paladin isn't a melee build, but there are plenty of times when you're within melee range, where a quick melee stagger is useful, and again I can't say enough how nice it is to have a level 6 fire explosion ready. He does the bulk of his damage through explosions anyway, so passives aren't really that big a deal.
