I'm planning on an Elf Rogue first, because I love playing an Elf in the DA universe (I like underdogs). I will probably go Qunari Mage next, because that intrigues me the most. Then Dwarf, then Human. I play as Human the least if there are other options. Most of my playthroughs will be female, but I'll roll a few males now and again.

Human, don't know about the class.
Why? because i feel more connected to it and with limited amount of metagaming i can almost close the gap between the character and me.

My first character will be a dalish mage named Fëanor. I'm planning of making characters with other races though.

I always go warrior human first time round a RPG, but I broke my own rule with Dragon's Dogma and played a strider (rouge). So maybe, just maybe I'll break it again. I'll role with the rouge...and oh why not, I'm already talking crazy! I'll play an Elf while I'm at it!

I'm with the OP.  I can't decide. I have narrowed it down to dwarf or human, but I want to see racial bonuses before I decide.

I don't understand the distinction of Vashoth vs Tal Vashoth. What's the difference? Did the PC Qunari abandon the teachings or were they never educated in the Qun? (Orphan or something). Qunari mage just seems the most interesting at this point, because I don't understand what their relationship to the Qunari or Bas is.

a Vashoth is a qunari that left the Qun, but doesn't go against it. The Tal-Vashoths, after they left the Qun, fight against it because the want to destroy it, or something like that.
A qunari (member of the race), born and raised outside of the Qun would be considered Vashoth.

Dwarf rogue first. Elf or qunari mage after that.

Well when I heard we'd be allowed to play a Dalish Mage, it immediately jumped to the front of the line. B)

That said, the (unexpected) Qunari is... mighty tempting.

Right now I'm thinking qunari, but I'm not sure. I've always loved the idea of playing a qunari mage that broke free from the Qun, but since apparently the qunari PC won't have ever been part of it, the idea doesn't appeal quite so much to me. But either that, or an elf mage. I have a thing for mages...

I am in the same position :D. But I think I'll stick with dalish mage. It'd something I wanted to play since DAO came out.

Human first. Rogue or mage.

Not sure who I will play next. Will at least start the game with each option.

That's my plan as well, if the game will turn out to be good.

I'll play a Human Mage in my first playthrough, as always. Not sure what I'll do in the pts after that, though. Perhaps a Qunari Warrior or Elven Rogue, we'll see. I guess it'll depend on the story and what I think could be different from the first pt.

Qunari had me when I heard they were playable, but then after hearing that the elven mage can have a Dalish backdrop, I'm now more conflicted than ever.

I've always been a human male warrior, it's a tradition though I'm not sure if I'm gonna use sword & shield or two handed weapons.

To me it's a no-brainer: Qunari mage. I'll probably try out every race/class combination in time so I doubt I'll stress too much about that first pt. The second pt is always the best (to me) anyway, so that's more likely the one I'll have to think about.

My 'canon' playthrough is probably going to be a Qunari Mage unless something happens between now and launch that changes my mind. My decision on it is almost entirely based on the 'Rule of cool'. I usually roll Dwarf when it comes to stuff like this, but my Warden was a Dwarf and I don't think I'd be able to create a Dwarf and not compare him to my Warden.

I agree I almost always love my second playthrough the most. You know the main story so its fun inserting a character that is most interesting to you in terms of the framework of the story. You also play with a different PC and bring along different companions at plot points, so you can see the story for a different perspective.

Still debating, but either elf mage, human warrior or qunari rogue. I guess the class will most likely decide and I always pick the class depending on who I like at first sight of the revealed companions. So far I'm really ino Vivianne, so mage is last on my list, but with only 3 companions revealed it's still anyone's game at this point.

I'm loving the qunari, but it maybe a special experience that I want to save for a 2nd or 3rd playthrough, so I might be a bring human. If we visit Kal-Sharok all bets are off, cause I would really want to go there as a dwarf.

Anyway, humans are the best option if you can't decide. They are aways kind of middle-of-the-road.

Intending to start with female human mage, then male qunari warrior/rogue.

BUT - will probably play the intro/tutorial with a few different races and classes first, then decide for sure.

I really want to play as Qunari first, but something tells me that I'll play a human first.  I'll definitely do a Qunari Inquisitor later.  Maybe followed with a dwarf.  Get both points of view.

I'll definitely start with a male Qunari first. I'm a bit hesitant about which class, but I think I'll end up going with mage.

First playthrough: undecided between Male Human 2H Warrior or Elf Male DW Rogue.

Subsequent playthroughs: anything's possible.
