With the new forum layout, voiceover competition and stuff. I don't think that a delay is an option at this point. Sure anything can happen but I think Fall 2014 is a pretty solid time. Would there be any point to do all this if they we're planning to hit it back again?

It will be interesting to see how Bioware will fare against CDPR this time. I like both companies and both game series. It looks like Q3 will be a golden time for crpgamers.

We're 8 months out from the current window. BioWare is playing things closer to the vest, perhaps, but if we've taught them anything it's that we'll take their words and spin them into promises of rainbows, unicorns, and sunshine then berate them endlessly if there's a cloud in the sky or our ponies don't have the right color horns glued on them. Personally, though I miss their involvement here, I take yhe lack of dev posts to be a good sign: they're too busy with their polishing cloths and bug swatters to play with us right now.

With a couple of big gaming events on the horizon, I'd wait to see what the do there before I begin my Chicken Little impression.

Agree with this. With the amount of marketing already done and still coming up (supposedly next week) I get the feeling production is well on track.

Can't play a woman so I won't be getting it. And no offense...Why are you even here if you hate the Dragon Age Franchise?

I don't hate it all, I just don't want to see it come out and do poorly because of really good competetion.

(Also, I'm not trying to derail but do you seriously not buy a game if it doesn't let you play as a woman?)

I'm patient, so if its delayed its delayed. I am not too worried about it yet.

Just as a note in terms of how things can go: on DAO one week before we were supposed to go gold, I was convinced that there was no way we could possibly ship the game on time.  4 days later I was just "wow" as things were pretty good to go.

The game definitely isn't ready for ship at this point.  But it's been cool to see it starting to come together the past few months.

OH MY GOD. It's gonna be delayed until 2016! Allan's post hints at it. I can tell! AUGH! How shall we ever survive?!  ;)

She wouldn't be the only person.  I know someone that didn't play Alpha Protocol because you could only be a man as well.

RPGs I think are prime for self-insert types of characters (my characters are often similar to myself), and if that's what someone needs to help get into the game then that's fine for them.

If the game gets delayed again, which I think is likely, it won't end up being 'better with lot's of extra content' like many people here believe.

If it gets pushed back again, they will be frantically *cutting* content in order to catch up, not adding more. So people shouldn't be happy if it gets delayed again.

Too many people in this thread, IMHO, are Debbie downers when it comes to DAI's release window/date. Misery loves company, it seems. But you do hit the nail on why it's bad if DAI is delayed a *second* time — it's because they'll be cutting content, not adding it.

I'd rather have a solid main game released in fall 2014 than someone's idea of a perfect game, because perfection is simply not achievable. So, give me a solid main game sometime later this year, and spin the stuff off that couldn't fit into that timeframe into DLC and expansions.

Edit: Expanded on original post.

That's a big reason why I think folks who are OK with a *second* delay ought to be thinking about. That, plus the fact that any one of us could get run over and killed by a bus tomorrow, thus ending any hope of ever playing DAI.

So how much content do you think Bioware would have to cut if they didn't have the ability to push the release date back? Your reasoning makes absolutely no sense. How could they add more content if their schedule is even tighter than it would be when there's a possibility to delay the release?

Except this year is the pushback date. It originally was going to be a Fall 2013 release, but got pushed back a year.

I agree, they have already pushed it back. Would or could they be aloud to even delay it again?

If they don't manage to finish the product they're perfectly allowed to push back the release date. I don't think EA would be too happy about that development however, so I'd say the odds aren't in favour of a delayed release.

GOD! I really hope they dont delay it again, but on a side note I can honestly see it happening and if it isnt delayed it will probably be come out september or october... I agree Quill74Pen and say that what isnt finished should be made as DLC, From the gameplay they've shown I'd say its look pretty good, and with writers like Gaider I don't think they can really go wrong in terms of story.

If the game needs to be delayed cause it's not up to standard then, c'est la vie. We all survived the years of postponing Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3, I think we can survive a couple of extra months. Or like Square Enix, the game could be brought into market a couple months early! You never know :o

I'm a woman, and I didn't buy Alpha Protocol for precisely this reason.  I didn't buy The Witcher 2, either.  I blew it on the first one because it didn't even occur to me that I wouldn't be able to play as woman in a RPG.  (BioWare spoiled me, evidently.)  I learned my lesson.  Now I check before buying.  If I can't play a girl, I don't play.

Well...they did wait till the last minute to say that the dev diaries would not, in fact, be shown in february... So while I hope they wouldn't be so cruel as to do this, it's not entirely out of the question that if the game is delayed, they'll only announce it right before the release date. But hopefully that's just me thinking of the worst case scenario to prepare myself, just in case.

Considering how many "next-gen" games have been pushed back from spring to fall, DAI is going to have a lot of competition for people's money.  So for sales sake, they might want to wait until just before Christmas or after to avoid the overcrowding releases in Oct. and Nov.  January and February are typically absent of big AAA games.

It's possible they may have been hoping the person with pneumonia got better too (I don't actually know).

I am not fully like this, but many rpgs MALE! Leads do turn me off of the game. I mean, Male Shep is fine. Witcher 2 I couldnt get past the interrogation. It felt like he hated women, and they seemed so unreal. Its that way for me with all video games. Link, mario, sure why not, they are fun. But Duke Nukem was emotionally soul crushing.

On topic: I have to say that being told delays twice at the last minute has made me annoyed and very pessimistic. They probably will deliver on time, but I am struggling to not be very critical of something I know nothing about. I guess its the effect at the height of excitement it being dropped makes me feel like expecting the worst even when it starts getting better.

I think it will be released this year. Mark Darrah has stated on bioware blog that the main storyline is completed from beginning to the end with the holiday build. That means now it's more about the other aspects of the game like gameplay, graphics, music and voices. The writing takes the bulk of the time.

I hope they won't cut any content because of some technical difficulties just to meet deadline. I think delaying release would be better option, if that were the case.

Well, it has already been delayed one year, and for the better most definitely, it seems.

May they? They may. They delayed dev diaries... however, those were delayed because a staff member had pneumonia. Doubt that would delay DAI on the whole scale.

Basically I'm saying it isn't impossible that it will be delayed if something important comes up (officers burn down, large amounts of data lost/corrupted, Jessica accidentally summons Cthulu) so if it DOES happen, there won't be much warning... but it is unlikely.

Look how long this post is for not saying much of anything at all!

Personally, I would prefer developers take as much time as they need to complete and make the best possible game.    Considering they already sort of believe they had "extra" time with the current extension to add more features, it seems to suggest that they should have no problem making the Fall 2014 release target.

Still if they need more time I hope they take it.

TW3 will probably be coming out before the summer, so I am not worried about that. I am more worried about Fallout 4 coming out alongside DAI. That will be a true battle for my time and attention. I cant imagine having to pick between the two but I fear it might really happen.

Fallout 4 won't be out this year or next year from the things i've heard, and it likely won't be out until sometime in 2016 with a slight chance at late 2015 so no need to beworried about that and even if that was the case why not buy both or all 3.

Anyway no DAI will not be delayed again and it's still on track for a late 2014 release, and it will likely be released before Christmas at the latest unless it suffers a major setback or leak.

It was dealayed due to them readding the race's back, adding a better reactivity system, putting a large amount of optional additional content in the background that's fully explorable and we can learn more about the race's like Qunari, etc. The dev diaries were delayed due to one of the people working getting really sick and causing a backlog and hopefully we should see them soon.

Someone had pnemonia? Are they okay? My sister practically gets it every year, but it can take her down for weeks.
