Forum Dark Theme?

Meilleure réponse Jessica Merizan , 31 mars 2014 - 09:54

The dark skin is live! You can toggle it in the bottom left hand corner in "Change Theme".

Pretty sure this has been posted before, I was going to do that but somebody outran me.

You can install Stylish for Firefox https://addons.mozil.../addon/stylish/ to apply your own css stylesheets.
Somebody made these:

http://userstyles.or...e-bioware-forum

http://userstyles.or...ware-forum-dark

These are not fully usable as they are cause a lot of white fonts appear on white background still, but that's a start and you can do your own if you want.

Ahh, thank you, much better. I hope someone makes one with the old BSN's color scheme.

Typical, BSN/Bioware just have to make US do the work yet again!!

How is it even possible, that a so-called 'professional' software house, can't make even the slightest thing about a forum useable?!!

This EYE-BLEEDINGLY BAD should go back offline, until such time they(biowhoever) can implement a proper functioning website!

I'm fairly confident that a darker theme will appear sooner or later which doesn't require user-side fiddling. It is somewhat worrying though that someone came up with this bright design and presumably someone else thought it was good enough to make public.

Grey on White is a serious nono. And I thought we where past this stage in website design... the only one that can be considered worse is blue on red... thats a headache waiting to happen.

There are ton of book on "color theroy in web design"

Just saying right now I used to spend alot of time on BSN cause it was easy to read... now I'm asking myself "Do i really wanna go read the BSN forums..." Not because of the posters but because of the color palette

Dear Bioware,

As much as I appreciate the user submitted fixes for this issue, please remember that there are users who can't access extensions or user scripts, for whatever reason (such as being forced to use IE).  Creating a darker, less eyestrain inducing theme seems to be a hugely popular request, and it would make the site a whole lot more friendly to those with no option but vanilla.  Please, please, please take this into consideration, I would be awfully disappointed if I had to stop coming to these forums because of a design style issue that is so fundamental.

Sincerely,

syllogi's eyes

Our designer is currently working on a darker forum skin that can be toggled at the bottom left hand corner where it says "Change Theme". The current theme will still be the default theme, but this way our players will have the ability to customize not only the background, but choose a darker theme against a lighter font.

We are also aware of some users who have issues with lag. We are working on a customization option that will likely remove the background and replace it with a color of your choosing as it seems the lag is largely caused by scrolling for those with slower computers or internet speeds.

Just so that I set expectations, the new alternate skin will not be black or that level of darkness. However, our designer has taken eye strain into consideration and is working on a suitable skin with that in mind.

Hoping its similar to the BSN then, or close at least.

YAY

I personally don't mind if the new skin isn't black, but any darker color, and/or larger (darker) fonts, will be much appreciated.  There are plenty of light colored forums out there that aren't as bothersome as this one, I think because there's less variation here (alternating a slightly darker shade with every other post, for instance, would help) and the main part of the page is wide (having more, dark wallpaper visible would reduce strain).  But I'm sure the designer knows what will look good and also be practical.

I really feel like the background is messing with my eyes now. I mean before it was more the shock thing, now I feel like its going to be an over time thing.

Hope we get the background change sooner rather than later.

Looks like a background change just went live, or I just noticed it. I can toggle to a grey background now. Doesn't do anything to fix the obnoxious amount of white in the actual forum space, but it's a start.

I know what you mean about the eye strain, I think I'm starting to think about backing off from the forums for a bit because it's really starting to mess with my eyes.

Those three basic background options aren't gonna help. Its the foreground thats the problem. Where all the text is. Still blindingly white. Gonna make my eyelids twitch at this rate.

Yea, it's not really the solution I was looking for, but at least they're doing stuff to try and alleviate the brightness.

Hoping to everything ever that we eventually get a dark background with light text rather than the clear opposite we have now.

I know they're working on something, but damn it,

The 3 backgrounds you guys are referencing is the addition of "no image background" options that we have added that is unrelated to the darker forum skin. That change is for users who have computers or internet speeds that are having lag issues with the background image, so they can remove the background image all together and have a solid color (we'll be adding more colors to choose from).

The main site text area as well as what was formerly white at the bottom of the screen on the 6 default background images has been changed to a light shade of grey.

We are still iterating and approving the darker alternate skin for roll out as soon as we can get it to you :)

To darken or not to darken, that is the question!
