I just wanted to say thanks for the changes that have been done recently, even just having a tiled image has made a noticeable difference for me, I look forward to more improvements to fix additional eyestrain.

The dark skin is live! You can toggle it in the bottom left hand corner in "Change Theme".

So we can't keep the cool background images AND have darker text boxes? Thank you

Why not?

I dunno, I can change my background to gray color, or have one of these awesome images. I would rather have the image!

Those aren't the fix for brightness, its the low bandwidth option. There are more fixes along the way.

Have the letters become darker and bigger now or have I only got used to it?

if you are going to use your current background image as background in dark theme, than I suggest that you create overlay with absolute positioning to make smooth transition from background color to image. You need to code this once, instead of making each new image for each forum theme.

The 3 backgrounds you guys are referencing is the addition of "no image background" options that we have added that is unrelated to the darker forum skin. That change is for users who have computers or internet speeds that are having lag issues with the background image, so they can remove the background image all together and have a solid color (we'll be adding more colors to choose from).
The main site text area as well as what was formerly white at the bottom of the screen on the 6 default background images has been changed to a light shade of grey.
We are still iterating and approving the darker alternate skin for roll out as soon as we can get it to you
Even though these new backgrounds aren't for the eyestrain issue, it still helps a bit. Also, I do like the cleaner look.

But why is the rum gone?
No, really, why is the font bigger all of a sudden?

Easier to read, easier on the eyes.

That's great! Does that mean we're darkening the white thing that's burning my eyes? ![]()

I just want to say thanks for the 3 grey backgrounds, I know they aren't specifically for the eye issue, but it already is an improvement for me. Please keep up the good work!

1. If you want to blame someone, you can blame me since I led the development of the new social.bw and forum.bw sites.
2. Many of our users like it, and websites like Google, Facebook, Wikipedia and Twitter all use white as prominent backgrounds. I'm happy offer an alternative and implement a darker skin for users with that preference, but it's definitely not out of the ordinary for sites (including many modern forums) to use light colors in web design.
3. Please, consider rephrasing your future comments more politely.

I really don't know why this forum bothers me more then most with the white. I wish I did know why so I could give more informative feedback then it hurts my eyes. The only thing I can think of is how the background image works for higher resolution screens with having the image flank the text and having a white lower section, for when the image was tiling on my screen a lot of my issues disappeared. For I use Facebook a little and Google regularly and neither of those sites bug my vision like this setup does.
I do thank you and the team behind the forum for continuing to improve it based on our statements.

At least for me it is not really the white. It was the grey and small font on the white background. This made it hard to read. But I am very happy that now the letters are darker and bigger and as such the whole text is easier to read.
Depending on how the dark theme will be I might even stick to the light background with the dark letters ![]()

Ah, thanks for working on this ![]()
I'd really like to have a dark theme, as I find reading on white quite difficult for my eyes.

ipboard_body:after {
content: " ";
display:block;
background: -moz-linear-gradient(top, rgba(25, 25, 25,0) 0%, rgba(25, 25, 25,1) 100%); /* FF3.6+ */
background: -webkit-gradient(linear, left top, left bottom, color-stop(0%,rgba(25, 25, 25,0)), color-stop(100%,rgba(25, 25, 25,1))); /* Chrome,Safari4+ */
background: -webkit-linear-gradient(top, rgba(25, 25, 25,0) 0%,rgba(25, 25, 25,1) 100%); /* Chrome10+,Safari5.1+ */
background: -o-linear-gradient(top, rgba(25, 25, 25,0) 0%,rgba(25, 25, 25,1) 100%); /* Opera 11.10+ */
background: -ms-linear-gradient(top, rgba(25, 25, 25,0) 0%,rgba(25, 25, 25,1) 100%); /* IE10+ */
background: linear-gradient(to bottom, rgba(25, 25, 25,0) 0%,rgba(25, 25, 25,1) 100%); /* W3C */
height:100px;
width:100%;
position:fixed;
z-index:-101;
top:650px;
}
ipbbody.style.zIndex = "0";
ipbbody.style.backgroundColor = 'rgb(25, 25, 25)';
This will make smooth transition between your background image and dark background for dark theme. top:650px; - should be tweaked for different display resolutions. I checked it only on my 1080p screen. That is how it looks with this css style:

And that is how it looks without it:

Also I would like to note that you will no longer need to manually fade images to white/black etc. Hope I was helpful:)
