Spectre Training: Does anyone else invest up to rank 12?

I have been looking over other level 60 builds people have posted on various old forums, here and elsewhere, and I have noticed a trend where many players only invest enough points to unlock basic Unity. Or alternatively, it is where a few their leftover points are sometimes allocated due to lack of a better choice.
Since you cannot reset your talent points in ME1, even on an imported save, I spent a fair deal of time thinking it over. Ultimately I decided to fully invest in Spectre Training, even though on the surface the bonuses seem like diminished returns.
The rationale I use, at least for the first 11 ranks, is based on the desire for my character to be as focused in her powers as possible. Hypothetically, if we could invest more than 12 points in a single power, and those powers followed the same per-point numerical progression, then essentially a 5% increase to damage and duration to all six powers (Barrier, Stasis, Throw, Lift, Warp, Singularity) is far a greater benefit than what we theoretically could have gained if we invested a theoretical extra two points beyond 12 in each of those six talents.
As for the last rank, I feel that the cooldown reduction and increased shields on Unity is still worth more than an extra 2% weapon damage, etc. Besides, if I am ever in a situation where I need Unity (which I hope may be the case in Insanity, since Hardcore is trivial so far) then I would want it to be as impactful as possible.
Does anyone else agree, or am I over analyzing trivial percentages?
For reference, this is what the final build will look like:
Bastion 12
Barrier 12
Stasis 12
Throw 12
Lift 12
Warp 12
Singularity 12
Spectre Training 12
Assault Rifles* 6
Charm 12**
Intimidate 3**
* Assault Rifles as bonus talent
** bonus points gained from three consecutive playthroughs (I am part of the way through the second, so currently my Charm is 8 and Intimidate is 2)

I don't always invest maximum into any skill, but it really depends on how I am playing, who my team members are, and the difficulty. Normally on the higher difficulty games I will take it to twelve for "just in case" moments.

When I first started playing, I always maxed Spectre Training. I hardly do that anymore.
At least half of the time on Insanity, Master Unity is great for when you do need to revive squadmates. With only Basic Unity, a lot of my squadmates tend to die immediately again after reviving them before I can hit First Aid, since they return with only 30% shields and almost no health. And Basic Unity has a 2 minute recharge time...
That being said, it also depends on what squadmates I bring along. Wrex and Ashley, for example, are sturdy enough to hardly ever go down, making 12 points into Spectre Training nearly worthless. Everyone else can go down rather quickly if enemies are not properly controlled.
But a lot of it depends on my class and build. I am currently playing as a Sentinel and have only 4 points in Spectre Training, and can count on one hand the number of times where Master Unity would have been worth it over Basic Unity. Liara + Kaiden + Sentinel Shepard can disable almost an entire battlefield making it hard for enemies to knock anyone out of the fight.
Vanguards for another example, are really point-starved when it comes to powers, unless you purposely pick a bonus power that you will not spec into, such as Stasis. Compare this to Soldiers where you can ignore three of your weapon talents so you can spend the extra points into Spectre Training.
I also tend to only play through ME1 once per character, so I usually spend 8 points in Charm/Intimidate. If I played a 3-playthrough character for the natural max Charm/Intimidate then I would probably spend more points into Spectre Training, although maybe not. Again, it depends on the class and squadmates I use.

I don't invest more than required to get basic Unity either. The reason isn't because I only get a moderate percent bonus past Master of other points if I spend there, it is because I can spend those points in other talents to level them to Master earlier. I have played most of my characters starting at Level 1 and only have taken a few through NG+, so most of them end up around 57 and I wouldn't be able to use an optimized Level 60 build anyway.
Also I would say Master Unity and Spectre Training itself has diminishing returns. What I mean is that early game (by that I mean Level 1 - 20 or so) on Insanity, it would be nice to have maxed Unity since many squadmates are fairly squishy (they don't have great skills or equipment). Once you get past the mid game and Level 40, the game is drastically different. You start getting all the good armors, equipment, etc and the squad is much more durable and you might not even have to use Unity hardly ever. And by that time, Shepard is going to be nearly able to solo anything.
If it were me, I would rather take Master Overkill, even if that ability isn't the best. Adept especially doesn't deal a tremendous amount of actual damage with powers anyway, and there are bonuses other places besides Spectre Training.

@OP: Of course
Speaking from my own experiences, there are only few very rough guidelines in terms of upgrading powers: upgrading only the most destructive / disruptive powers to the full (most of biotic powers, tech powers that enable you to unlock new items, etc). Offensive / biotic powers are much preferred. I tend to ignore barrier and stasis because they incur penalties, so I only invest in them for about 3 or 4 points.
It is important for me that each character must excel in a few skills with full 12 points, the same with squadmates. However, I usually have to make up my mind about who I want to bring along early in the game so I could diversify the combined squad skills (i.e. just mix it up a bit by avoiding overlaping skills, except for more effective skills such as lift)
I understand your apprehension about upgrading to the full because I feel that all the time while playing ME1, when starting a new playthrough I only allocate points to skills that are useful, supplementary skills are ignored until I have saved up sufficient points to spend later in the game

I really can't remember what my last build was.
There days I confess to using the command console and giving myself enough points to level up each power fully.

Always get it up to 12. But I make really non-standard characters.
Charm and Intimidate always 12, both.
Spectre Training + class skill always 12.
Assault rifle bonus skill always, except on a soldier. Always maxed. Assault rifle's the only gun I ever use.
The above leads to the bottom 5 skills maxing out, on every character.
No points in armor, ever.
No points in pistols, shotguns, snipers.
With the remaining points I 'max out' skills. Between parentheses because 'maxing out', in this case, means getting the master version (with the lowest cooldown), which isn't necessarily 12 points.

I think I have it 12/12 on my Soldier because I solely use Assault Rifles and no other weapons so there were a lot of points to spend.
Otherwise I have it at 11 or 4.

Heh, same here, although I only gave 30 "console points" to my Shepard in my last playthought, and then disabled the console again. I don't wanna risk corrupting my saves (I heard it may happen if you've got too many spare points). Even less having in mind we may need them for ME4.

I maxed it out on the Soldier play-through I just completed because I had the points to spare. It honestly made no noticeable difference in the way I played. On any other class he points are better used elsewhere so I only invest 4 points.

Only reason I consider taking Spectre Training to a decent point is the Acc. bonuses on weapons. Before you get into mid-range weapons, they all pretty much suck and dont allow for you to shoot straight for more than 2-3 shots at a time.
Hell, I grabbed the VII AR for Master Spectre gear THE moment I came back with 250k+ in credits, just because I wanted to shoot straight.
That said, my knowledge on the matter is hugely limited due to never playing anything besides Soldier on ME1 because of how clunky the power controls are.
