Does ME1 have compatibility with Win 7?? I've been trying to install the game on different ways, firts I installed by passing via Network with my other PC all the files but then it crashes on the launch, then I installed directly from the CD, then when it launches it asks for my CD Key when I already put it on the field, and it keeps asking me again and again and game never launches. Can annyone let me know if is a Win 7 compatibility issue??

its not..i use win7 and it works perfectly alright. Just popped in the disc and it installed as per normal. Perhaps try reading the disc as vista format? Right click on the drive and then properties and change the compatibility

Install with Vista SP1, and "run as administrator". I was able to reinstall with no issues with those settings.

First off, you cannot copy and paste files to install them (generally). Something has to be installed from its installer. The gamedata like the savegames can be copied with no issues.

2nd, just pop the disc in and run the setup.exe as an administrator.

your CD key should be stored in the registry of your old computer somewhere. Explore with regedit

Google for the location of your cdkey, im sure it is out there somewhere. Then CAREFULLY navigate with regedit (open the run menu, then type "regedit" to open). Be careful to not delete, change, remove, etc ANYTHING in the registry at risk of complete destruction.

I don't know if it's a compatibility issue or not, but Mass Effect 1 freezes on me every once in awhile. I got my copy from EA Download Manager. When the game freezes, I can still Alt + Tab out of it, but it takes awhile for it to process and the whole computer gets sluggish even after closing the Mass Effect processes (which utilizes roughly 1GB of RAM). The whole Taskbar becomes unresponsive and if you try to end explorer.exe assuming that it will reload itself... it doesn't. You have to do a hard reset.

Pretty much DON'T Alt+Tab ME 1 in Windows 7. It spells disaster.

That's interesting. I've never experienced adverse performance or lasting issues after closing when Alt-tabbing ME1 in Windows 7 x64. I wonder what's different between our setups?

I had two very insignificant instances (both in the same place, CSEC) where my game went black screen for a few seconds, but didn't actually freeze, and then recovered itself so I could continue playing. I also am running Windows 7 64 bit, and the game through Steam. Never had any other issues whatsoever.

Win 7 64-bit, Steam version, both DLCs, no problems. Did have an issue with Pinnacle DLC installer not working properly, just canceled out of it and it brought up a 2nd box to enter my key and that worked.

Also can alt-tab with no problems. There is a delay, maybe 15-30 seconds sometimes when tabbing back into the game before I get control. So I don't do it very often.

I had an Nvidia card when I first played the game but now am using at ATI, so both seem to handle things ok.

Sorry I can't help with the installer issues, as Steam handles that. But the alt-tabbing shouldn't cause problems.

It does. At least I'm playing on Win7 64-bit. Just run it as admin (yeee feel the power of The Admin) and "should be goood!"
