In my opinion I thought both mark and hale were on the same level in mass effect 2 and after watching the new trailer meer is going to be awsome.

It's mostly a backlash against the fact that there's been almost no coverage of the female Shepard option. Everyone tries to tout Miss Hale's voice acting, often at the expense of Mark. They gave very different Shepards, so some people honestly prefer her.

In my case, I prefer Mark for Shepard but I think Miss Hale has better range over all.

In the first one he came across a bit flat in my opinion, was almost painful to play through the game as a male Shepard. From what I've seen of the trailers/game play videos he has improved vastly since then though.

I think Hale does a better performance than Meer does and I prefer playing FemShep over MaleShep, and the reason people complain about Meer is because Hale doesn't ever get any screen time in the marketing department. If you haven't played the first game, new gamers won't even know you're able to play as a female Commander Shepard.

This. No femshep footage or screens, to the point where the voice actor (in an interview) suggested that fans clamor for it. And honestly, could anyone blame her? Wouldn't you want all your hard work to be seen and appreciated?

I don't think Meer's voicework is bad. He fell too flat at times in ME1 but he maintained the gruff space marine theme very believably. It sounds like he's gotten better in ME2, from watching the amazing launch trailer, and that makes perfect sense. He hasn't had as much experience as Hale, so every game his work will get progressively better and his talent will start to shine through.

I thought he did great job. Hale is awesome too. but femShep does not feel right to me so I only played through as a femShep once.

Meer sounds amazing in the video. He manages to sound sarcastic, angry, and funny in just several videos. He didn't manage to register that many nuances in his voice in all of ME1. And I liked his voice a lot, if not so much his delivery.

The fans clamor for it. The fans know about this game. They are advertising for the people who haven't played it or know about it.

On a different note yes i think Meer has improved from the ME2 footage.

Some people just feel the same way about Meers performance as I do about Hales. I think Hale is a phenomenal voice actress, but I simply cannot stand her VA for Shepard. It sounds about as dull and fake as can possibly be.

Its mostly just a matter of a difference of taste.

Though as for the frequency of "Meer hate, Hale fanboyism/girlism", I think someone hit the nail on the head. Its because Hales Shepard rarely features in marketing at all, and they are bitter because of it, and lash out more.

I never played as maleshep in ME1, but I plan to play both fem and maleshep in ME2. From what I've heard of Meer thus far, I kinda like that he and Hale have different VA-ing styles, as it'll give my multiple playthroughs a slightly different flavor.

Both Hale and Meer are good actors, but it comes without a doubt to my mind ( at least ) that Hale is better then Meer on the vast majority of lines spoken in the game. However Meer is better when at speaking of action, intimidating etc. then Hale is. So for trailers it comes naturaly that they choose Meer ( not that I would have a problem with a female shepard in the trailers )

Heck, I think I will first load my female Shepard playthrough

I very much enjoyed Mark's Shepard, people interpret it as flat but I saw it more as neutral. When the situation called for a bit more emotion he delivered on that just fine, his voice is a great match for my Shepard. On the other hand I felt that Hale in the very beginning of the game made FemShep sound too butch. As if she was trying to make her voice sound deeper or tougher, but that came across as phony baloney and I found THAT voice to be more painful to watch. Granted it got better during the course of the game, but I prefer male Shep's voice.

I'm rather neutral when it comes to the gender of Shepard in the game.

The only reason I played both genders in the game was to see how their respective romance paths were like.

This.
FemShep proponents' resentment of the lack of screentime is usually vented at Meer or Vanderloo, if not both.  Default Shepard isn't their Shepard so he's seen as inferior.

Even with his recent performance on the launch trailer he'll still get ripped on, which really just shows you it's not about talent, it's about him being a scapegoat for their frustrations.

I despised Mark's flat uninspired Shepard in Mass Effect. I laughed out loud the first time I heard him try to dress down Joker and Kaiden on the bridge. However, I have just seen the "Fight for the Lost" trailer and he may have improved his game. Maybe all our criticism paid off?

Though I will still be playing FemShep I may start a male character to see some of his performance.

it's mainly feminist backlash against default shep being a man and then being in all the trailers. it has got nothing really to do with the merits of either voice-actor - hale is very good, but totally wrong for shepard (flat, word/sentence emphasis is out of context at times etc), whilst meer is sometimes flat but infinitely more suited, and some of his renegade lines are excellent.

I like him, he's got a good voice that can be applied to lots of types of characters. From the trailer, it sounds like he's increasing his intensity for ME2: "TALI!"

I agree, Jennifer Hale does sound better, BUT Mark Meer owns all if he's a Renegade; he sounds waay funnier than Jennifer when being badass.

That's so unfair, but true. :? Makes me feel really bad for the guy who obviously works hard to get a voice that's not overreaching, not all good, and not all bad and can fit a multitude of different faces. It can't be an easy job.
