We've all got to tighten our "like" belts in these tough times!

I've heard there's a seedy black market of "likes" thriving in some shady subforum... but one hears too many rumors these days

My life was meaningless before I could like other people's posts. Putting a cap on it is either cruel, or helping me recover from a new addiction. I haven't figured which one yet.

So what's the story with this now - any news on increasing the limit?

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice. I'm gonna throw around "likes" as if they are bead necklaces at Mardi Gras!

Who wants a "like"? Gotta show me something first, boys and girls! ;)

BTW, your avatar makes me snort-giggle every time I see it. Well done, sir. You get a "like" just for that. Kinda like a gold star in grade school, but better. Because it's a "like" on the Internet.

[playful sarcasm]Mr. Reid's subtle attempt to get more likes than me will now certainly be successful.[/playful sarcasm]

Question, can we see how many likes we given within 24 hours?

Yeah, that's why I have no real issue with the "Like" system as it is too.

I think people just wish they had more daily likes available.  Though I could see scarcity being a good thing...

Do you *REALLY* like this post!?

Perhaps.

Now all we need is a way to see how many likes we've given out, to help avoid that dreaded "awww man, I'm all out!" moment.

I seem to have some sort of a "bug" maybe? I like to like ALL THE THINGS but at a certain point I get an error message and then after an hour or 2 later I get to like 2-3 post more and then I get the error message again... Im kind of confused... I dont really count how many likes I give... can you guys make it like Facebook or something so the likes are limitless? Personally I dont like to be constrained when it comes to those things...

I cannot see the relevance for a “like this” without its opposite “i don’t like this”.
It is not a fair system and should not be used on its own.

It's called "don't like the post if you don't like it".

The option exists. Don't click like. :D

If the option exists then you will not mind taking out the “like this” and replace it with “don’t like this” as it makes no difference to you.

The difference there is that a "Don't Like This" button would do nothing but represent negativity. Positivity is what should be represented, and it already is. No change necessary. :)

Unfairness is always negative so that disproves your positive theory.

And I like fairness.

If you don't like a post, either argue it, don't "like it" or ... ignore it?  I make a lot of posts that people don't like, but I don't want to fed with a thousand "I don't like your posts" in my notifications, I'd rather not be bombarded with negativity, even if I do make posts that won't vibe with everyone, I'd rather open this site up with some likes, personally, but that's why I have my notifications open to when someone quotes me, so if there is an argument involving me, I can know.

I bet more users would leave if they were bombarded with dislikes, especially on the forum itself, where as many got them over their comment section, PM, etc.

So you don’t like to receive "don’t likes" just like everyone else so why have the likes then?
My opinion is either remove "likes this" or add "don’t like this" that is what I see as fair or better still remove the points for each user as they are meaningless and signify a falsehood. Just have likes and dislikes with out any points.

They are meaningless, but for one, no one is forcing you to "like" anything.  And I for one, know that each system would probably be abused if there was no limitation.  And if you really don't like a post, aren't you more than likely going to argue it or quote it to bring up why you don't like the post?  What I used to do before the "like" system, was just quote a post and say nothing more, so maybe that is an aspect of why it's there in the first place, as I know I am not the only user to do that as well.

^^That was all they used to be back on the BSN, yeah. Mods don't want that though, they want substance in posts, so to show approval we now have the like system. Works well.
