I don't know about all that, their free games on PS+ are pretty good. I mean, don't get me wrong, they've been lacking on the PS4 front, but any service that lets me play Demon's Souls for free(ish) is good in my books. That being said, I like how MS does their games for gold, even if their games tend to be on the older side.

That's true. The PS+ games tend to be games I'm more interested in playing or haven't already played, unlike Xbox Gold. I was talking more about Microsoft giving out free tokens for games for new console buyers and whatnot because I've seen other instances of them giving people free stuff just for buying their product, but I haven't seen anything like that with Sony. Then again, the PS4 is outselling the X1 so Sony really doesn't need to do anything extra whereas Microsoft is kinda playing catch up. Hence the price cut on consoles during the holidays. Even knowing that it's all purely a marketing strategy for MS though, I still feel like there's more of a dialogue between Xbox users and MS than there is between Sony and their users.

Basically, I know MS is just using me, but they're giving me what I want so I'm totally okay with it.

So, I just barely started watching Dragon Age Inquisition videos and reading up about it on the forum and if you haven't watched some of the gameplay videos Bioware has put out, you definitely should. The character creation and customization options alone are so freaking rad.

Pretty sure I'll be spending half an hour in the character creator...at least. Still unsure of my race/class combo.

You guys probably already know this but if you sign up for EA Access on X1 you'll get to play 6 hours of the full game on November 13. You also get 10% off of the Xbox digital version. I paid 5 bucks for a one month subscription, got 7 bucks off the digital deluxe edition and saved 2 bucks in the end so it's worth it if you don't mind not having a physical copy. Though my reasoning is I'll just buy a physical copy when the price drops.

Anyway, just thought I'd share.

I'm buying a disc copy because I get 20% off all my games at Best Buy with Gamers Club Unlocked. But I do want to play the game early. Ugh the struggle.

I'm buying mine on PS4, so the whole EA access isn't really on the table for me. Even then, I prefer to have a physical copy and actively dislike the idea of EA access, even if it would allow me to play DA:I  early...

Been reading the Eurogamer review for DA:I and even though they gave it an 8 with plenty of positives, the negatives mentioned are worrying me a little. Not going to stop me from getting the game at all, but I'll be interested to see what you guys think once you've played it, since you'll likely be playing it before me. Also I put more faith in what you guys say than anybody else. ;)

First thing that concerned me was the lack of choices you make having any impact, though the reviewer also compared it to TW2 and GoT... I understand the first, but which GoT game is he talking about? The Telltale one that isn't out or that RPG that came out a while back? I can't remember hearing about the latter being renowned for anything, let alone the impact of decisions, but then maybe I've just forgotten.

The second thing was about your party. I'll just paste it:

The rest of the team run the gamut from a childlike elf to a mysterious spirit, but having no particular need of them, I had to go out of my way to even say hello. I'd have made an exception and brought Varric along on quests even though I didn't need a rogue, but he and Leliana (now your spymistress rather than a party member) have gone through the same thing as Anders, with much of their humour surgically removed between sequels. Leliana in particular is barely recognisable as the bard who was once up for a foursome with Isabella the pirate queen, and the ambient dialogue in general never got close to the zip of Dragon Age 2's banter or the squabbling between Morrigan and Alistair. BioWare games usually do a great job of making your group feel like family. Here, they were assets.

Hopefully it's better than he says, because my party members are always one of the biggest highlights for me in Bioware games.

Andy, in my experience with reading Eurogamer reviews, I hate them. With every game it seems, not just Dragon Age, they whine and moan about every little thing or exaggerate what they perceive to be bad parts of a game.

Instead, go read GameSpot, IGN, Polygon, GameInformer, Kotaku, GiantBomb, Destructoid, and The Escapist. Almost all of them thus far have given Dragon Age glowing reviews of 9/10 + and none mention the issues that Eurogamer apparently perceives are in the game.

Not to mention the reviews in general from those sites are leagues and miles better than the reviews I've read on Eurogamer.

I'm not worried about Inquisition in the slightest.

Hadn't seen any other reviews up until now actually. I'm very happy to see the game being so well received. I would've got it anyway, but it's nice to see Bioware doing well. :)

Yeah, I have to side with Badger here. I rarely ever agree with Eurogamer. Their reviews always seem so unnecessarily negative and rarely ever reflect my own views.

Also, I've been watching gameplay vids the dev team has been streaming throughout the past year and I've already seen plenty of humor and personality in the characters. And I've only seen three or four conversations so I doubt they were the only ones.

Can't comment. On blackout mode.

/useless post

Seriously though, I doubt BioWare would drop the ball that bad when it comes to the party members. I mean, they have taken characters that I liked, more or less, such as Anders and made them completely cringe-worthy, but that's an anomaly that hopefully won't happen again. All the same, we'll find out next week!

@guardian: I agree. I miss Awesome Friday's.

And a note to anyone who's getting Dragon Age Inquisition on the PS4, in the Polygon review they said the latest software patch was freezing the game (and others), but Sony is supposed to be releasing another update to fix that before DAI comes out so I would look out for that.

Also, Polygon gave it a 9.5 and the main topic of the review was about how your choices, big and small, past and present, really do affect the story/world. Game Informer and IGN said pretty much the same thing, so it seems like the eurogamer reviewer just had a stick up his butt.

Here's a list of the major gaming websites and what grade they're giving DAI for anyone who's still worried. Obviously it could still turn out to be disappointing, but I'm pretty optimistic at this point.

Thanks for those links, Meg. That does sound very encouraging. Hope I didn't seem like I was bringing the negativity or anything, was just concerned after reading that. I'm still super excited about the game, but won't be getting it at launch because I had the bright idea of telling people they could get it as a gift for my birthday next month. Same with Far Cry 4. So I have to wait a little longer for the two games I'm most excited for this year! Haha.

Is anybody playing AC:U? I've only played 90 mins or so but it seems fun, despite the technical woes. The main character is much more Ezio than Connor so far and the city is just so beautiful and full of life, at least in the small parts I've explored. Having said that, when I do the sync points and see the whole city, it doesn't look all that exciting to go and explore, things look a little samey, so not sure how well Paris will work as a location right now, but I'm optimistic it'll come into its own once I've had a chance to really explore.

But so far it's when you're down on the streets that the city really feels alive and the interiors this time are where the visuals really shine, at least so far. I've barely had any time to roam around outside yet, so these are only my first impressions.

Now for Ubisoft to fix the game. The bugs have been tolerable so far, since the game is still pretty 'tutorially', but I can see it getting more frustrating as the game gets more challenging.

@andy: I didn't think you were bringing the negativity. You were worried by a review which I would have been too if I'd read it first. I'm just trying to spread the hype wagon because I'm obsessed, lol.

Speaking of which, I played 3 hours of DAI last night and I won't spoil anything, but let's just say I was literally sqeeing out loud from the moment the title screen popped up. It looks gorgeous, the music is beautiful, the character creator is amazing (I spent almost an hour just on one human male who is quite dashing) and so far the dialogue and story are just bursting with personality. I love it so much that I'm up at 5:30 just to sneak in an hour before work at 8.

Anyway, as for AC Unity, I'm not sure how I feel. I really like the murder mystery sidequests, but a lot of the others feel repetitive and boring. I also feel like there is just way too much going on. They used to have a nice balance between collectibles and sidequests that added a tiny something going on, but now it just feels like they kept throwing in content just because they could and they knew it would add to the length of the game if you chose to pursue any of them. I'm also kind of hating the revamp to movement and combat. Having to press right trigger and a or b depending on whether you want to go up or down doesn't make the game any more intuitive or the character go where you want him to any easier. Half the time I'm trying to get him up a wall and he'll just hang there for five minutes while I alternate tapping and holding 'a' until something finally gets processed right and he climbs the freaking wall. Speaking of which, I really don't understand why having a thousand people on screen was so important that it was worth the cost of everything else. Every time I get to a place with more than a hundred people, my guy suddenly runs about as fast as he normally walks. Or the whole game will lag like crazy. It's superrrr frustrating when you're trying to chase or run away and you suddenly look like you're running in quicksand. So yeah, I don't know. I agree about the protagonist. He's much more likeable than any character recently, but so far his story seems both general and vague, but I'm only at sequence 5 so hopefully that will change.

I reckon you will probably find given all the problems AC:U is suffering (and this is just my opinion and I should point out I haven't played it myself) that it was actually meant to be next years AC game and that they bumped up the schedule on it to try and bring some next-gen wow factor into AC to bring back the fans that were getting a bit tired of it and ride the hype of look what we can do with the new hardware.

At least that's what I reckon is going on anyway, I could be wrong.

It's also worth noting that Ubisoft only gave review copies a week and a half ago and didn't raise the review embargo until AFTER the game was released. To me, that just says that the devs knew the reviews would only hurt consumer opinion of the game and they weren't confident with their product.

On the same hand, DAI was given out like a month ago and the review embargo was raised a week BEFORE release. Again, this is just my opinion, but Bioware seems a lot more confident and proud of the product they're putting out. So much so that they were sure reviews would only help consumer opinions and, ultimately, sales. Just my two cents.

So...I may or may not get an Xbox One tomorrow...and I may or may not go over to Gamestop and see if I can switch my DAI preorder from the PS4 to the XB1.

Amazing! I really hope the "may" wins out over the "may not". Then we could all play DAI MP! (If it doesn't suck)

I'm pretty hyped too! I had to downgrade to the standard version of DAI. but oh well. This download is taking forever, though.
