Aye, but if we look at the whole Shenko arc as a novel, it is quite a bitter sweet story. I would have preferred Shepard to make one more attempt to recruit him in ME2 though, only to be rejected once more. This sounds a bit masochistic but it shows Shepard does not give up easily.

Definitely. I hate how Shepard just gave up. The dialogue stinks. I had a lot more to say to him even if I knew he'd never follow there. Heck, maybe even more.

ME3 romance dialogues can also be improved: right before Kaidan asks the question, Shepard stops him with "I know, and I do" instead of "Wanna hookup?" "Why yes sure!". Iirc femSheps have a kiss animation already? So I guess an animation could be added to mshenko romance: Shepard puts his hand on top of Kaidan's, though the animation might look clumsy I expect

I've always felt Bioware games don't have romance as their primary objective. They're getting better, but it feels more like I have to headcanon most of it in between "Nice to meet you, I'm the hero" and "Wanna hookup?"

Yep, I skip most of the dialogues these days, (guilty), since I know them fairly well by now and also they are a tad bit too cheesy for me :P

I guess now that Bioware has met gamer romance demands to a large extent, it is time to fine tune the mechanics and dialogues

OMG, I needed this like a drowning man needs air.

As far as ME2 goes....Iunno. I think the writers could have done more with it, like had Shepard actually fight for him by saying something like "I don't trust Cerberus--I need people that I know I can trust."

But that could just be me.

That kinda what the fanfic Shepard not trusting Cerberus, needing someone to trust, well + some other things but don't wanna spoil!

If you want to read it, i found it pretty good (be advise, got adult contents è_é)

I agree that Horizon dialogue itself leaves much to be desired. But the plot itself works well.

Yes, ME2 has a lot of frustrating stuff, but that frustration fits the situation. Shepard was killed in action and left all alone, she has to work with Cerberus, she had lost Alenko's trust. That was very depressing on my first run, but I believe that was the whole idea of ME2.

I'm not talking about overall Collectors plot here, and I'm not saying I like that Pokemon-style 'build your team' thing (not to mention Liara the Omnipresent). Still, the emotional part worked for me, and I can appreciate ME2 as a very important and vital part of shenko arc. Virmire, Horizon, Citadel II - they endured it all.

A friend of mine, Garrus-mancer, once tried to prove me, that I love ME1 better solely because I've got Kaidan Alenko in squad. She said that my issue in ME2 was the lack of 'accessible'  LI and 'proper' romance. I tried to explain her, that loyal femShep actually HAS her ongoing romance in ME2, but I don't think she listened.

I think I like the very idea, that one can have a non-herocentric  relations. Aarin Gend, Kaidan Alenko, Anders are the brightest examples of such romance

Nrieh, like the others, I'm not really happy with the dialog on Horizon with Kaidan. There wasn't "enough" of it and the dialog doesn't quite fit with my Shepards, the wording is off.

I always wanted a DLC with the VS.  A mission where Shepard acquires some Cerberus intel for Anderson and when he/she goes to give it to Anderson Kaidan is there and they somewhat "mend fences" maybe with Anderson there to play referee.

Yeah, I don't hate that Horizon happened, I just hate the way it happened. I understand Kaidan's got his integrity and all that, heck, that's something I love about the guy, I just wish I could've gotten through to him why we were stuck with cerberus. Dude's too stubborn for his own good.

But I definitely agree it made the romance better. I feel like it made them stronger as a pair.

Now I just need my awesome space adventure with the two of them acting like a pair. You know, like together they are the main character ;)

Oh, and I just have to add, I seriously love Aarin Gend too.

You know the letter Kaidan sends femShep after Horizon? Kaidan's voice actor (his name escapes me at the mo) read it outloud. A clip is posted on youtube I think. Go listen to it if you haven't already - it really makes the letter sound so much better.

I'm pissed Kaidan didn't send the same letter to mShep though. :P

Would have been amazing if he did, we should have got a little cutscene of shepard reading the message and hearing Kaidan read it to him.

Ughhh can you imagine??  It happens in my headcanon anyway. I gotta say though I LOVE mShenko's dynamic in ME3, even if you're not planning on romancing him it seems that the two characters still so openly care about each other. Loved how distressed Shepard was after Mars!!

Ashley and Kaidan should have sent a letter if you were on good terms with them even if you couldn't/didn't romance them. You really feel snubbed when you don't hear anything. I mean, you don't hear anything from them til the third game otherwise.

I did not try to defend the dialogue itself, I was talking mainly about ME2 part of shenko.

Remember, that they had to write it as neutral as possible. The Horizon dialogue is mostly shared between mShep and femShep,  romanced and non-romanced, new and imported. Paragon romanced femShep has same lines as new renegade mShep (other than few romance-sensitive lines).

To make it look 'right' they'd have to make several entirely different dialogues, preferably - taking ME1 'renegading Kaidan' into consideration (if happened), but that's too expensive.

ME3 scenes ( hospital and Chronos) were even worse, imo. The Chronos scene may look good as a 'first night' with mShep, but not so much for the 1-2-3 femShenko. Mars and London goodbyes were good, though.

That's the 'dark side' of the 'open' PC and non-static plot, I guess. Not to mention, that writers rarely care about headcanons.

However, ME2 has no excuse for not even mentioning Kaidan (or Ash) in SB files. I think I'll take a closer look at scripts, if I remember it right, those should be moddable, and I know where to look.

Ya  I was too >.>

But now, I always use the tweek to have the gay romance in ME1 with Kaidan so, I got the letter (with  "woman" instade of "Man", but well XD)

I really hope that someday, they'll remake the trilogy & add the gay romance from the start (as it was planned >.>)

I like the way my romance unfolded without the mod. Started off as friends, but realized their feelings ran deeper than that. It's sweet. But if they changed it, I doubt I could resist romancing Kaidan in ME1.

Hmm look what I've found while browsing ME2 text scripts :

<id>338425</id> <data>Reunited with Commander Kaidan Alenko.</data>

Same line for Ash is also there. I only have access to the tlk (decompiled into xml), so I have no idea whether this text variable is actually used within the game itself. Yet, it's very likely that they considered different possibilities for the Horizon scenario.  All the objectives are signed like that.

OMG Marcos!  *hugs*  I'm glad you made it.  I like both, but for any remake, I fear they'd ruin the magic of Mass Effect.

Roi, unlike rumors mShenko was *not* planned for ME1. Patrick Weekes cleared that up a while back.

I'm just gonna troll and say that ME2 is BS.
Sorry, but no.

Of course I was able to swallow the whole trilogy cake but that doesn't mean I enjoyed eating it.
And I only did that cause my diet only lasted 3 weeks or so, I didn't have to wait much between ME2 and ME3.

And that letter was the cherry on said cake.
"Oh wait, we nuked the unpopular human characters but we're just leaving this here in case you're a fan and then if you're still around when ME3 is out and buy it then you'll remember that letter and you'll be rewarded oh and btw if you romanced an alien in ME1 then that's cool cause there's a DLC coming up but it won't feature humans cause humans stink."

@Nrieh: that's probably just a text marker for plot flags.

EDIT> Somebody please tell me how you attach stuff and insert images it's driving me crazy. And yes i'm bolding this so that you can read it in a sea of white.

Sorry, but no.

No one was defending ME2 as it is, Mimi. But just think about what would entire shenko arc be with no Horizon, with no Alchera order ('Kaidan. Go. Now.'), followed by 'Aye, aye, ma'am\sir.'?..

Of course, it is hard to compare it with ME1. Impossible, actually.  Still, it's part of the tale, unless you pretend that happy everafter happened right after the Sovereign attack.

@Nrieh: that's probably just a text marker for plot flags.

Could be, but all the markers I've seen can be usually recognised as ones. E.g. LotSB has a lot of comment strings like 'note - here comes custom loading screen with Shepard chasing spectre car)

I've seen a lot of unused 'legacy' strings in ME2 files, like early description of recruiting Zaeed:

<data>[TEMP] Veteran Acqusition: In search of Zaeed Massani, Shepard enters a smoky bar in a bad section of Korlus. A thug is demanding protection money from the bartender; Zaeed interjects, and calmly shoots the thug after the resulting alpha dog exchange. Shepard invites Zaeed to join them, and Zaeed is perfectly willing -- if he gets paid 1 million credits up-front. Shepard asks where he's supposed to get that much money, and Zaeed suggests stealing it from the local mafia boss.

After fighting thugs, gang members, and drug addicts, Shepard uses the Mako to chase the mob's payroll vehicle through the crowded, winding streets. The squad breaks into the "union building" and fights its way to the payroll containers, which are guarded by three powerful mercs. Shepard can threaten, bribe, or kill the mafia boss to get to the payroll containers open. His credits acquired, Zaeed joins the squad.</data>

He was also mentioned as 'Zaeed Chak' once.

tell me how you attach stuff and insert images

but...how about all those buttons you've got in your basic post editor now?..   Once I click on quick reply window it expands with editor UI with all possible tags and options. Don't you have it?

I know what you meant, I dealt with that arc cause I just didn't have much choice, but I don't like it.
And yeah, I'm perfectly fine with my "happy ever after" or whatever that is that happens after ME1 and doesn't involve Shepard being reconstructed from thin air and all that nonsense and that lame Earth-centered plot in ME3.
As I said before, I would have rather they stopped at ME1 and be done with it.
Maybe if ME3 had been more satisfying and not so annoying on so many various levels I would speak differently now, but that's just how it is.

I'd be curious to replay ME2 though, it's probably still a good game.
Since I think ME1 is awesome and ME sucks as a trilogy, then I'd rather stop at the first opus, that's very simple.

I have an "image" button, which lets you embed hosted images, and then "My Media", which lets you browse through uploaded content, but I don't know where to upload said content.

There's a "manage content" in the settings menu, but still no link to upload.

EDIT> oh that's interesting, well then maybe it's dev side notes or whatever. I don't believe they were ever meant to be back in ME2. Just don't ask me why. Probably cause Jack is cooler and Tali had to be romanced.

Ah ok, relieved to see it's just not me then - well anybody lets me know if they find how to upload stuff. I would think that that "manage content" link would be disabled if we're not allowed to upload content here, but I suppose they could have forgotten it. Oh wait... maybe we can still upload stuff on the old bsn...

EDIT> no you can't.

I haven't been able to upload stuff either and it's driving me insane.

I just think ME2 is a good game and works for the series as a whole for me.

The only thing that dumps it now in my opinion, is not being able to ****** ROLL. I can't even play the damned thing anymore. It sucks.

I really love character based games though. Games where you just collect a bunch of characters. Lol, I dunno, I think that's fun.
