ME2 is the game I like the less in the trilogy. Funny thin,g i enjoyed the DLC (overlord, crash site, fakir & arrival) more than the main stroy >.>

For image, I can't make it work either, so I just put them somewhere else & link them here :x

I really love character based games though. Games where you just collect a bunch of characters. Lol, I dunno, I think that's fun.

Oh you mean the recruiting thing in ME2 right? Or are you referring to sthing else?
Well just imagine if you could have recruited Kaidan too :D Now THAT would have been challenging to gain his loyalty back :D

I agree it makes the relationship more interesting and more intense and also that Kaidan's reaction feels right.
I'm not necessarily against drama, it's ok if it has a purpose and it's well executed, but in that case we, the players, were the ones who built that purpose with that "headcanoning" and so on. Filling the gaps, patching it all together... modding :D

I suppose one could say that that's the way in all BW games but I don't believe it.

Same here. I thought the DLCs were the best in the series. Tons of fun.

Mimi!

Yeah, I mean recruiting your teammates. I love games that are just a bunch of side quests and more driven by character interaction, then by telling a story (If you've ever seen Baccano, it's a similar concept). I like both styles, but that's my favorite. Collecting teammates is fun.

Collecting teammates is fun.

Doesn't it cheapen them? It becomes like CTG, where you need to gather X unit cards  and Y resources in order to win the combat. DAO was also about characters, so was ME1, but neither had characters as a game-mechanical purpose. They were part of the ongoing story. Reminds me of TMS score, really. You need to do something because the game demands, not because you believe that it makes sense.

Don't get me wrong, there are great characters in ME2 with great writing (like Mordin and Legion), but storywise all that 'build your team' and 'earn their loyalty' is a crap. Why would I need Thane or Grunt ( other than their upgrades), if I never use them? Why would I even want to recruit Jack? Note, that first companions list is mandatory, it is required to progress the story further.

Mordin is an ex-STG, one of top agents, and he can not concentrate during SM just because one of his students went missing(e.g. you don't investigate the case on Touchanka)?..

I know only one game, that had it worse, than ME2 - it's NWN2, where you can't kick obvious traitor out of your party simply because that's how the writer wanted it to be.

ps: Kunari, do you have an option to move posts here? Something tells me, that last few pages belong more to the OT thread, not to 'major-only' ))

Nah, it doesn't cheapen them. You don't even have to get everybody in ME2. I guess what I truly love is all the little stories that go on in games like this. Each character is a separate adventure. So I like it as a game mechanic, if I'm understand it right. DAO wasn't the same thing. The main story had a higher priority. The characters just joined in along the way, same with ME1. Think more Suikoden. But even Suikoden isn't exactly it. The characters don't all have stories to get them.

I was wondering how would the different character stories be different with Kaidan around. I really wish he could've been there with Miranda. I don't think he would've liked her at all. You don't really get to see him play off the ME2 characters. He's supposed to be good friends with Thane in the hospital, but we don't get to see anything. I think he would've liked Mordin. Not sure about Zaeed. I never got him.

Well the most obvious example of character recruitment game to me is Valkyrie Profile no doubt and I liked that game.

The genre has its appeal for sure, but that's not why I love ME in the first place, I mean, that's not what it is about imo.

So while I thought the change of atmosphere and plot was really cool everytime you went for a new dossier, it just felt like a long series of short DLCs put one after the other. It's a bit like short stories vs. novels - while I appreciate both, I think novels are usually richer. You have more time to get familiar with the characters and make the relationships more elaborate. Of course... it's also best to have LESS characters in that aspect :D

I prefer a long elaborate story anytime, with all your team already there from the start. I would have loved to have the full crew from ME1 ready for a new adventure together in ME2. Of course I can understand the drama value of ME2, but I would have enjoyed that much much much more.

Haha, I always wonder about Miranda and Kaidan. I think they are very similar, but that's precisely why they wouldn't get along maybe :D I think Jack would annoy him too.

You don't even have to get everybody in ME2.

Actually, you are forced to take most of them. Story does not progress without recruiting first list (then we have Horizon). Their upgrades are vital. You can possibly give Legion to Cerberus and shut down Grunt, but you have to do most of the recruiting missions. Afaik 'collector's ship' (which leads to reaper IFF) needs minimum 8 squad members to be triggered.

So, while the stories and characters are nice, it's too 'mechanical' and immersion-breaking for me.

I'm not saying that your way to enjoy games is wrong or something, don't get me wrong, but I'm with Mimi. I love more global and 'seamless' storytelling. Like ME1, DAO, DA2. They've got different characters with different stories, and more.

I haven't seen much about it this time around. I assume we can just search for the tag?

More Kaidan art is always welcome. Too bad Andrew probably won't be involved, though.

I feel like last year everybody was talking about it.

And who knows? Maybe Andrew'll have something. If not, I'm sure there'll be lots of good stuff anyway ;D

In my e-mail exchange with him, he said:

"...I'd actually like to take a break from drawing more Mshenko right now (since they're kinda all I've painting for the past two years)."

So I sincerely doubt we'll see anything from him this time around.

Man, my Shepard is so lucky that the perfect guy for him just happened to be stationed on the same ship. I wish real life worked like that.

We're all lucky that Kaidan was on that ship, man. It's still one of my favorites. I used to get so excited going to talk to Kaidan after a mission.

Not even storywise, but think, we probably wouldn't know each other otherwise. I'm grateful for it.

Too bad life isn't that easy. You'll find someone, just keep a positive outlook.

First time my Shepard stepped onto the Normandy's bridge and see Kaidan give Joker a little ribbing, I just knew I was going to enjoy talking to him more. Sometimes I miss snarky Kaidan.

It was one of those moments when you 1st meet Kaidan, it was a shame they dummied out the same-sex romance for him during 1 and 2 but nice enough that they allowed modders to reintroduce it, I mean even now when I play ME 3 it honours those modded flags, obviously the dialogue to reflect it in ME 3 is unvoiced but its still an amazing touch. http://tvtropes.org/...hing/MassEffect its mentioned at the very bottom of the page

Least with future ME and DA games this shouldn't be an issue anymore, so I really can't wait to see what the future games in the series hold.

Just hope whoever it is, captures the same feeling that Kaidan did
