Ha! Well they don't look exact. You can tell he's the model though. They look like brothers. I think Sheploo's the only one that really looks exactly like his model. Well, young Vanderloo anyway.

God, I wish Vanderloo wasn't so ridiculously high profile, he's probably way to busy to know or to care, especially now the franchise is over.
The resemblance is uncanny from certain angles and during a neutral expression. But when Kaidan smiles or his face moves, he stops looking like Luciano. I think don't think they had references to how Luciano's face muscles work, so they took a lot of liberties.

I've watched the cosplay panel video, and I really-really wish RS could've joined them. But he was nice to make a record, which is also great.
Costa is like concept-art. I'm not saying this to offend him or his fans, but that's exactly what he is for me. Concept-art is essential for the game, it expresses some ideas about the character's appearance and nature, it's greatly used by artists and writers, it helps to create the actual content, but it's not really a character himself, and it might not even remotely look like a final in-game character.
Most of the time he did not look like Kaidan at all (to me at least). Eyes, random expressions - there were something 'kaidanish', sometimes. I'm glad he does not seem to exaggerate his role, jokes about how 'he was used'. I'm also glad that he preferred to keep his natural looks instead of making himself 'more like Kaidan'. Looks like a nice guy.

I think I know which pic you're talking about, Ash. Many 'official' ME3 art ( especially early one) look more like Costa, than in-game Kaidan himself.
Also, Costa smiles way to 'professionally' for my tastes. He just can't stop posing. My guess, is that he looks most like Kaidan when he's asleep..

You can see the difference when Andrew is drawing Kaidan and when he drew LC cosplaying Kaidan.

Remember, they used Luciano as Kaidan's face model back in 2005/2006 when designing ME1. As far as I know, they did not rehire him for ME2 nor ME3.

Really? For some reasons I thought they had only used him for ME3.
Some faces look more similar some don't. You can hardly tell "omg it's Liara!" when looking at her face model. Rana doesn't look precisely like Samara/Morinth either. And let's not even bring up Desmond from Assassin's Creed. Ubisoft never changed his face model, whenever they updated Desmond they made new face scan of the same guy yet they all look different.
And smiling pics ain't good comparsion anyway, video games still have huge problems pulling off smiling expression, even with all the tech progress made. In some shots, there's zero doubt who's face Kaidan is based on:

First of all you can't really compare Rana with Samara because Samara is a friggin alien, and even when shes not done up I can totally see Rana when I look at Samara, Desmond too. Vanderloo and Yvonne look exactly like their characters its almost creepy. I agree they look alike from certain angels but in motion I don't see his total likeness, I see Kaidan as a different person, the same cant really be said about the other characters. I feel like K's and LC's eyes and noses are really what makes them look different (I guess they didn't factor in LC's off center nose, and they also gave Kaidan hazel eyes instead of brown ones).
And don't be rude about Yvonne, she was way more involved in the game than Costa ever was. And so what if she hasn't been to a con (which I don't even know if that's true), shes a successful actor, shes just too high profile. Do you see Vanderloo, Freddie prinze jr, Seth Green, and countless others going to these things? We're lucky that Costa is just a normal guy with a small business. Don't kid yourself, he wouldn't be here if he made it big in modeling or reality TV. So you cant single out Yvonne, it's not really about her not being nice.

To me Hazel eyes are blue/green, that's why I was a little confused. I think LC and Kaidan have about the same colored eyes but I'd have to look at them side by side I guess.
