I can only afford the one ship now, but I think I'll only need the one anyways.
I've got a Freelancer, 325a, and an Avenger so far. I'm excited to see how many times I get destroyed by players more skillful than I, and those darned asteroids that keep appearing out of nowhere ![]()
I'm also planning on using mouse n' keyboard, mainly 'cause decent flight sticks are expensive. *hides from flight stick master race*

Do you mean because you intend on earning other ships in the game, or you have already settled on one playstyle that only requires one style of hull?

Let's get back to Star Citizen, thanks. Won't ask a third time.
Mkay, if you just want to spout nonsense without having to explain it, be my guest. I'm not really in the mood of trying to argue with someone who's just hating on something just because it's not immersive enough or because he thinks the game industry is not giving it its worth due either.
Have fun with your "joystick".
Money issues aside, I've been hesitant to buy too many ships as I want to give myself achievable goals early. Like "get a better ship." Eg. it would be comparitively more difficult to improve upon say... a Constellation, compared to a 300i.
I haven't contributed anything mostly because at this point, I think he's at a point where any additional funding would just delay the release of the game.

I used this for basically everything and it never once let me down, $26.99.

It's an understandable comment, but as someone following it pretty deeply, a lot of the stuff that's been getting added and added and added to the game for the past, gosh, three months or more (longer in some cases?) is stuff they're not even projecting for launch. So giving them more money now, IMHO, won't slow the game because they've already nailed down what they want to launch with, and all the stuff that extra money brings to them, will appear at a later time. I'd certainly recommend people buy in now before the alpha slots are all gone. $40 gets you the ship, the single player game, the MMO (with no monthly fee) and alpha and beta access. It's pretty compelling.

It's a good one that doesn't get enough kudos; people get more hung up on, say, the Saitek brand, for example, which extend into HOTAS and pro flight yokes as well.
I think Saitek might be the brand that Star Citizen will ink it's branded joystick deal with too, which is adding to its cache with fans. But the Logitech is great; I have it, too.

Goals will end up being different for different people. A bit of a no-brainer to say but, if (when?) you end up joining Leonia and I in Pan Galactic, you'll find a lot of the members only want to start with one or two ships themselves. Others want to start with more, and immediately leap into different scenarios. Horses for courses ![]()

A lot of it is just I can't afford to buy more ships right now. If I can earn more in game, cool, but I know if I start getting too many they'll just sit there and collect digital dust. I could always sell them, I suppose. The 300i just looks like the perfect ship for me, though I wish I could have afforded the hornet.
Well, this is the great beauty of SC... no matter what package you buy right now, you can "melt it" (as our forum saying goes) for the amount you bought it for and buy something else. So you might buy the base Aurora package then think, hell with this I want the 300i (or one of the 300 variants); you just melt the Aurora and use the store credit, with some extra cash to upgrade yourself. You're NEVER locked in, during this pre-game period.
And yeah, some ships are exxy, but what we're really doing here is pledging to fund the game. The ships are almost like a gift in thanks for that; we're not technically buying the ships... even though that sounds so weird to say/read.
If you like, make an account on my guild forum and feel free to use the public area to ask anything you want about the game so you get more than just my opinon (as well as take part in all the other shenanigans that go on there). You never know, if you like it, you might want to even come fly with us, in the game
Hmm I might just do that some time - your org looks friendly and laid back, which is the kind of thing I would be looking for.

Given my job, alpha and beta status are perhaps less appealing for myself ![]()
So I put some cash down to support it.
Enough to get the game when it comes out at least.
Unlike my friend who has dropped 1500$ so far...with more to follow.
Dont get me wrong I love this game, but 1500$....you could almost buy a whole ship for that.
I felt like my Freelancer was going overboard a bit, but I'm actually on the very low end it seems like as far as backers go.
For the DFM, I'm actually glad they "delayed" it. This gives them the time to go through and get the backend code working properly rather than using the temp code they originally were going to go with.
Besides, one does not simply develop software without having delays.

Well, don't be too sure of that. You might enjoy dogfighting a lot, but one in awhile might want to go and mine. You'd need a completely different ship for that. Or, what about if a ship is destroyed? The insurance policy will return it in a certain period of time, but it won't be instant. And I believe the more expensive the ship, the longer it will take to get back. So having other ships is good for doing different things in the game, as well as having something else to fly if waiting for insurance.

That's totally the idea and you're more than welcome. And you don't have to be a full member. Of the 31 people who use our forum, only 19 are "full" members.

Indeed, when I was a games journalist for magazines here in Australia for many years, alpha and beta had a whole different feeling for me, as I could get into any of them, from any company, "like that" *snap of the fingers* It's a lot different once you return to civvy street, LOL.
So I put some cash down to support it.

Yup, and the scary thing is, your friend's pledge is not small or unique... a lot of people have gone truly nutty for this game.
(Which is good for all of us, frankly!)

How many in your guild are active ~East Coast US timezones?
Hard to say, I think we actually have more Aussies in PANGAL right now than anything else but it's still early days.
And since we're listing our fleets, here's what I'm starting out with:
RSI Constellation
Origin 315p
Origin 350r
Xi'an Khartu
The idea being to cover most of my bases (exploration, trading, dogfighting, maybe racing if it ends up being a good way to make money) but still leaving room for progression. Of these, the 315p is likely to be scrapped down if something amazing is released later (love having the ability to melt things down and change packages around). I think the 350r is looking like my main vessel, long range and fast, I'd like to avoid combat in most situations. Possibly looking at grabbing a Mustang to act as a plan B if one of the others gets blown up (though they all have LTI, insurance still takes time to go through).
As someone who didn't grow up playing flight/space sims, I'm slightly apprehensive about using a joystick (also own one of the Logitechs that was mentioned earlier, haven't really found anything good to test it with yet). The scope of the game is what really pulls me in, the idea of not only exploring space but going planetside in search of who knows what, making a potential living from artefacts, getting into scraps with pirates, smuggling goods through heavily patrolled systems, making a reputation as a respectable middle-man(woman?), etc.
I want to LIVE this game.
My main "big goal" is to be involved somehow in making First Contact or forming a major trade alliance with an established alien race. I'm eyeing the Banu Merchantman as my first major acquisition in-game.

Not quite, babe. Of the 31 on the forum, 19 are definitely going to play. I've highlighted the US members among those 19 below:

So that's 10 of the 19 in the US. The remaining 9 are split between ANZ and Europe. Which is awesome, because the intent is to be a global guild and not try to play to one area over another. Naturally, the US will always be well represented as a lot of players are there.
I haven't delved too deeply into actual US coasts at this stage because there's no game to play yet and there's a lot of water to flow under the bridge before then. Also, people tend to play at different times of the day, making coastal figures a bit off, anyway.
It's more about getting people together, and talking, and interacting, and gaming in other games, for the time being. That builds a solid core.
Amount of ambition, hype and expectations around this game is starting to creep me out. When I heard CR is going to make awesome, challenging space sim tailored for PC I was so happpy. When i saw how huge scuccess the kickstarter was, I was delighted. Then both fan hyberlole and Chris Roberts' promises began reaching Molyneuxian levels of bullshit. FPS combat! It is actually an MMO! Eve Online but everything you liked about Eve is bettter, and everything you mislike is gone!!
There's like 50.000 people out there who are convinced Star Citizen is the best game they have ever played. They've reached this decision without seeing one second of early game play in a trailer or otherwise. They pour thousands of dollars in it because it does make sense to support the best game you have ever played. Once Star Citizen inevitably fails to deliver every single thing everybody has ever imagined, I recon there is going to be a hell to pay. Maybe open a kickstart to fund hell.
All that said I, too, Think SC looks awesome and I'm really looking forward to it.
Meanwhile, Elite: Danngerous is coming along nicely by the looks of it. Alpha is actually playable.
