Since I'm on a roll today, having de-lurked after 4 years and all that...

From Exploring the World of Dragon Age:

tumblr_n1uoveZf8A1tug0kzo1_500.png

tumblr_n1uoe0Iw6Y1tug0kzo1_500.png

This area looks like it's composed of lots of small islands (it can be either a sea, or a marsh/swamp/thing), connected with bridges and ramps. The circular structure with the ramps looks really interesting... The area reminds me very much of this GI screenshot:

tumblr_n1uohzzdSA1tug0kzo1_500.png

Notice the stone ramp?!

tumblr_n1up0kqG0N1tug0kzo1_500.png

This looks like the models for the in-game map/menu thing (the one you choose the opportunities like opening West Gate from). They're the models for Griffon's Wing and that owl symbol.

A lovely looking snowy mountainous area (Frostback Mountains, maybe?):

tumblr_n1up9erYEj1tug0kzo1_500.png

tumblr_n1upddYIvC1tug0kzo1_500.png

tumblr_n1upddYIvC1tug0kzo2_250.png

Am I mistaken or is that a fade rift over the top of that mountain in the background? Which reminds me of this concept art:

tumblr_n1upi9bgUV1tug0kzo1_500.jpg

Another area:

tumblr_n1upljKxxR1tug0kzo1_500.png

Wall-full of concept arts:

tumblr_n1uppdVEfk1tug0kzo1_500.png

tumblr_n1upuugHpv1tug0kzo1_400.png

That looks like the Scribe Lady, and maybe the blonde elf behind her in front of a veil rift.

tumblr_n1upuugHpv1tug0kzo2_500.png

A shot from Western Approach I believe. There seems to be fires bursting out of the ground and disappearing again.

Ah well, I need to sleep, and stop spamming the thread...

That concept art is one of my favorites. I was this close to squealing with joy when I noticed the fade rift in the maybe-Frostback area!

It's lovely isn't it? And it's only at pre-alpha stage too! The DA: I team has done a wonderful job with the environmental designs.

Looks pretty good. The combat seems more realistic than DA2's, which is a huge plus for me. Although smashing an iron gate with a weapon is just stupid. Anyway, nice find OP, I'm really looking forward for the game.

Hmm, one way to work around the picture limit thing, maybe you can put links to those comment with pics in the OP? That's a real hassle though.

Here's a much better shot of him and the elf!

Of course, you could be quite right about the soldier. As for the reasons why we might be fighting our own soldiers at Adamant, I have two theories:

1- (***Some spoilers for Dragon Age: Asunder***) From Asunder, we know that the veil is very thin, almost ripped at Adamant Fortress. It might be that while we're trying to capture/cleanse the fortress, some demons come through the veil and possess or influence the minds of those in the castle, including some of our soldiers.

2- We have claimed Adamant as our stronghold (highly doubt it), and have established a foothold there. Due to doing some stuff that has lowered the morale of our troops there, they rebel and we then have to put down the rebellion, lest the entire Inquisition crumbles down.
Of the two, I think the first one is closer to what's happening (assuming something is even happening).

It'd be interesting if doing things that might lower the morale of the troops (like having them leave their wounded during Crestwood) would result in them rebelling. That might give us some pause/or give us a more difficult time while trying to be the hero that saves all the innocent all the time, as that might cost us our power and our troops. I mean, it'd be nice if they have us do a lot more things in preparation so that we can be a good leader as well as a benevolent person, not that they should make it impossible.

I wish I knew how to make gifs. She looks really awesome while she casts the spells! Also yes, I really hope an Ice Storm spell is available as well.

It would actually make sense for us to take Adamant. A strong fortress, it isn't formally occupied, and if the viel is being ripped all over I would bet on it ripping there.

Yeah... I thought of that too.

I will create a new thread for future video installments. Every solution I've thought up so far seems far too tedious and unorganized, and with less of a visual impact.

I wanted to include other finds later discovered in this thread on the original post, but it capped out.  :(

But Adamant is strategically important to the wardens, being located right on the edge of the Abyssal Reach, so I doubt they'd give it up. I mean, I know that they abandoned it, but still! But maybe that was what that assault on the grey wardens in the trailer was all about.

My other reason is that Adamant is located in the Western Approach as well, so unless 1- we can capture more than one keep per area or 2- Adamant/Abyssal Reach is a separate area of its own, capturing it as a stronghold seems unlikely to me. But maybe you're right. I would love to have Adamant as a stronghold!

An actual, honest-to-maker rift inside Adamant, which we'll have to close would make for an amazing quest!

I wonder if the devs had any idea we would look at those tiny clips so thoroughly to get so much info and speculation out of them, hahah.

What I liked about those vids also was when they showed a map and had marked all the spots play testers were having trouble with in combat and such. Probably a really normal thing to do but it was the first time I heard about it so I found it cool.

The wardens don't occupy Adamant.  In Asunder it was a town that people had settled in but the Wardens had abandoned it long long ago.  As I said, it isn't formally occupied and seeing as how all the former residents are now dead...

Well, it'd be nice if that's the case. Hmm, I wonder if we can capture more than one keep in each area. Then we can customize each for a different use.

((Edit: Another thing I remembered:

tumblr_n1u7prSyPm1tug0kzo1_500.png

It says "Adamant, Pursue ... Commander Clavel (or something)", and under the big "Gameplay", it seems to read "Warden Marksman".

tumblr_n1u80nYdXf1tug0kzo1_500.png

The Area is full of archers and shades.

(Quoting myself, haha!)

There are Wardens in Adamant, seeing as those archers are called Warden Marksmen. I don't know if they are of the possessed or non-possessed variety, but it seems they have definitely came back to Adamant.))

I think they knew and took advantage of it too, knowing we'll keep speculating and discussing for a long while. These discussions will help keep up the hype during the information-blackouts. I mean, look at how much discussion that blurry picture of moose/megaceros thing kicked off. It's insane! And after all, they had blurred those parts in the vids that they didn't want to show yet (like most of the area names and creature names that are listed on the monitors). If they thought these would give away vital information, they would have edited them out of the videos.

Also yes, seeing snippets of how they go about making the game is very interesting to me as well which is one of the reasons why I like David Gaider's blog so much!

From A World Unveiled:

tumblr_n1vkrvVBcr1tug0kzo1_500.png

The pillar thing with Mabari head to the right was all over the place in Crestwood too. I wonder if it's simply Fereldan, or if these are carved by the Avvar or other tribes. Same question about the one with the crown.

tumblr_n1vkrvVBcr1tug0kzo4_250.png

Another statue that was in Crestwood as well. I think it depicts a regretful Maferath. (Side question: There seems to be a lot of statues with Andrastian symbolism in Crestwood, littered across the landscape and down in that cave with the Behemoth as well. Is there a particular reason for this, or is it one of those opportunity things, like building these statues to show the Inquisition's might and whatnot. In which case, why all the religious imagery?)

tumblr_n1vkrvVBcr1tug0kzo6_250.png

I think this area is located in Orlais. The bridge looks fancy, and those buildings to the right have a Mediterranean, Orlais-appropriate feel to them.

tumblr_n1vkrvVBcr1tug0kzo5_250.png

A broken bridge down in the background. Maybe our mages can rebuild it so we can access new areas?!!

tumblr_n1vkrvVBcr1tug0kzo3_250.png

Two concept arts for the belts the Inquisitor can wear. The one to the left has a set of lockpicks, the one to the right has an encased book. Wonder if they are for pure decoration, or if they have actual use? And what that book is supposed to be? (Two wild theories: 1- Litany of Adralla, for dispelling blood magic and banishing demons and stuff  2- The book that those Venatori Conjurers use to do their magic)

tumblr_n1vkrvVBcr1tug0kzo2_250.jpg

This guy gives me such Zorro feels, it's funny!!!

And from some other videos, though I think a lot of people have seen it already:

tumblr_n1vl18hSqT1tug0kzo2_500.png

"Exploration Skills Toolbox (Toolset?)"

and...

tumblr_n1vl18hSqT1tug0kzo1_250.png

"Companion Inventory" Also notice that it has the now-dropped DA III title rather than DA: I. But, those are Vivienne in the middle, grey warden and blonde elf to the right, and Scribe Lady and Fancy Facial Hair Guy to the left.

I didn't either. From Wiki: "Thedas has two moons, the secondary moon being named Satina (from whence the holiday of Satinalia gets its name)."

To everyone: Do you think maybe we can discuss those WIP screenshots that Mark Darrah posted a long time ago?

Wow, I don't think I ever noticed that middle one before!  And that top one goes unnoticed a lot, but you can see Mr. Moustache/Trident Guy in the bottom right corner standing over a dwarven smith.

Honestly, I think we have enough info now through concept art and game models to make a pretty good guess at our 9-10 companions if we assume every character that shows up in that bottom picture will be a companion.

Warriors:
Cassandra
Older Ex-Grey Warden
+ (Iron Bull)
+ (Mr. Moustache/Trident Guy)

Rogues:
Sera
Varric
+ (Scribe Girl)
+ (Cole)*

Mages:
Vivienne
+ (Bald Elf)

* = Except for the leaked survey and reports of an Asunder character being a companion, we've got the least evidence for Cole.  I'm thinking he'll be a day 1 DLC companion.

I put parenthesis around all of the characters that we haven't actually seen in the party via gameplay footage, so they're really just speculation on my part, including their classes.  Honestly, though, the ratios work out pretty nicely.  Similar ratio of humans to non-humans as DA:O, and 5:4 males to females (when you remove Cole as DLC).  The class ratios could be off, but again, that's just me trying to make it work neatly without actually knowing anything.

Hope this isn't too off topic, but those pictures finally crystallized this list for me, which I've been keeping and updating since the Game Informer videos were released last summer.  It was really seeing the Scribe Lady in that many pieces of concept art that finally convinced me she was a companion.

Thanks for all the awesome screenshots, Terrian!

From the WIP screenshots from Mark Darrah's update:

tumblr_n1whoka11i1tug0kzo5_500.jpg

Possible armor customization for Cassandra?

tumblr_n1whoka11i1tug0kzo8_500.png

That statue looks similar to the statues seen in espionage appearance of Griffon's Wing. This place however looks clearly Fereldan.

Other stuff:

tumblr_n1whoka11i1tug0kzo1_500.png

These are the male and female elven models. What I noticed is the difference in the shape of their ears. The female has a curvy, almost leaf-shaped ear, while the male's ear looks flat. The tip of the female's ear has a much narrower angle than that of the male. I don't know if this is a difference between male and female ears, a sign of possible customization for the ears in the CC. Or... the female is a dalish elf while the male a city elf! If this is true, then  "flat ears", the dalish slur for city elves finally makes sense!!! (Also, it would mean that we can play as both dalish and city elves!)

tumblr_n1whoka11i1tug0kzo3_500.jpg

This is a crop of a screenshot Arryn tweeted a long while ago.

tumblr_n1whoka11i1tug0kzo7_500.jpg

This concept art (which resembles  the rumored grey warden companion) was apparently shown at a PAX panel or something, and appears on the wall as well. Photo not mine.

Edited to add a couple of funny screenshots:

tumblr_n1wpcft3MR1tug0kzo1_500.png

This person has an insane amount of legos and miniature statues!!!! Also, hmm, the area on the monitor is either keep interior, or maybe a city.

Sorry for the double post (which I'm doing a lot lately!) but I had to separate this from the previous post, because my thoughts are all over the place! Wall o' text incoming!

Honestly, I think we have enough info now through concept art and game models to make a pretty good guess at our 9-10 companions if we assume every character that shows up in that bottom picture will be a companion.

Warriors:
Cassandra
Older Ex-Grey Warden

As for companion speculations, I have a few things to say:

tumblr_n1whoka11i1tug0kzo2_500.png

Firstly, Mark posted a WIP model similar to that of the "Bald Elven Mage". However at most, this only confirms that the guy has an in-game model.

tumblr_n1whoka11i1tug0kzo6_500.png

Iron Bull's concept art and in-game model. This does not mean that he'll be a companion 100%.

tumblr_n1whoka11i1tug0kzo4_500.png

A closer look at the "New Home" concept art by Matt Rhodes. The guy in the red square has a different clothing than the Inquisition soldiers around him in the picture. Also, the fur/red cape looks similar to the templar from survey art.

DragonAging reports that David Gaider is writing two companions, Cassandra and an unknown one (I have not been able to find the source for this. If anyone knows, please send me the link). Recently, DG said that he has written two romance plots for DA: I. I think that at least in the previous titles, the writer responsible for the companion is the one who writes their romance arc as well. If that still holds true, we can assume two things:

1- Cassandra will be a romance option (  )

2- Watch me deduce: a-DG is writing two companions. b-The two companions are romance options as well. c-DG has already said numerous times that Cole won't be a romance option if he's ever included as a companion (with quite obvious reasons as to why that is). d-If Cole is in the game he will most likely be written by DG. e-Therefor, Cole most likely wont be a companion.

(Edit: Traditionally, DG always writes male romance options. And snarky/deadpan-y types as well. Who are you writing, David?!)

Heads up that there are big spoilers for Dragon Age: Asunder starting from here.

My list (just in case, everyone: note that with the exception of the three confirmed companions, everything else including race/gender/nationality is pure speculation):

Warriors:

Cassandra (female, human, Nevarran)

Grey Warden (male, human, possibly Fereldan or Orlesian. I vote for Fereldan.)

[*Templar/former Templar (male or female, human, unknown. Likely candidates are Cullen and Evangeline.)]

Rogues:

Varric (male, dwarf, Free Marcher)

Blonde Elf (female, elf, possibly an Orlesian city elf)

[Scribe Lady (female, human, possibly an Orlesian of Rivaini descent. Maybe a bard? Either way, I think she won't be a mage, as two Orlesian-of-Rivaini-descent mages are a bit redundant.)]

Mages:

Vivienne (female, human, Orlesian of Rivaini descent)

[Bald Elf Guy (male, elf, Dalish or former-circle-mage-turned-apostate)]

[**Rhys from Asunder (male, human, Orlesian of Fereldan descent former-circle-mage-turned-apostate)]

To make the above list less cluttery:

[Fancy Facial Hair Guy (male, human, Orlesian. See footnotes though.) Can be either a mage due to the trident thing, or a rogue due to having a sword as well. Wanna know what wild theory I came up with? He could be Cole, wearing Lambert as a suit. Veeeeery unlikely though, as that would jeopardize interactions with Cassandra, and really, what use possessing Lambert's dead or alive body would have for Cole?]

[Iron Bull (male, qunari, unknown Tal-Vashot). Either a warrior, or a rogue which would make him even more of a different approach than that of Sten.]

[Cole. I already gave my reasoning for why he might not be a companion though.]

There is a possibility that we'll get a 10th companion in the form of DLC. It could be anyone on that list, Cole, or someone else entirely. What I think we know is that the class ratio of the base game will be 3:3:3, as there has been talk of having four-member-one-class parties.

And now, the touchiest subject of all: romance options! Hmm, let's see. What we most likely won't get is a bit easier to determine: we won't get a qunari romance, Varric romance (well, there'd be lots of retconning involved otherwise), and the Grey Warden romance seeing as he's an "older guy", and possessed/spirit/non-humonoid romance. What we will most likely get is at least one male human and one female human option, at least one elven option, and at least one mage option.

Candidates are:

Females: Cassandra (semi-confirmed rumor, lol), the Blonde Elf, Scribe Lady

Males: Bald Elf Guy, male Templar/Cullen (if he's a companion at all), Fancy Guy (provided he isn't Rhys or even Cole)

But in the past, we always had a female mage romance option, so who knows, Vivienne could be an option? Her Valentine card makes me very doubtful though, lol.

Notes ( ):

* I think there's a need for a Templar view point and one that actually shares either of the two extreme viewpoints in the order at that, probably the more moderate one of the two. Hence why I suggest Cullen or Evangeline. Though Evangeline would tilt things even more in the mages' favor, which would unbalance things even further.

** The first time I saw him, I thought Fancy Facial Hair Guy is actually Rhys. His appearance doesn't quite match Rhys' description, but that kind of stuff is prone to change. Nor does the sword he wields in the survey art match with, well anything really.

*** Rhys and Evangeline will go hand in hand, literally and figuratively! I don't think either will appear without the other, which reduces the chances of them being party members. It'd be cool if they are though, as that would give an interesting dynamic to the party's interactions.

*** It just occurred to me that all of the speculated female companions are young, and either human or elf. It was the same for DA 2 as well. That's... a bit disappointing.

**** I think the three mages would provide for the viewpoints that most mages have on the mage-templar war: Vivienne is a circle loyalist, Bald Elf would be all for mage freedom, and Rhys will be the moderate take-a-third-option viewpoint.

***** It also occurred to me that having three human warriors are a bit redundant as well. Odds are looking in favor of Iron Bull being the third warrior.

****** Just for fun:

David Gaider is writing: Cassandra, Unknown Companion

Mary Kirby is writing: Varric, Vivienne

Patrick Weeks is writing: A male companion, possibly LI as well? These are only rumors though.

Luke Kristjanson is writing: Blonde Elf

Sheryl Chee: Unknown

Sylvia Feketekuty: Unknown

Jennifer Hepler Had: One companion, who is either given to someone else to complete, or scrapped entirely.

Total Count: 6 out of 9.

I imagine Sheryl has 2, and Sylvia 1. Could be wrong though. DLC remains to be seen.

Thanks for all the awesome screenshots, Terrian!

You're welcome!  :)

Edit: Words. I can spell you, words!

Edit Edit: God, what the...?! Logic, where you be at...?!

Edit Edit Edit: In other words, nothing in this post makes sense!

Edit x4: Stuff...

Mega-edit: Oh come on...

[Scribe Lady (female, human, possibly an Orlesian of Rivaini decent. Maybe a bard? Either way, I think she won't be a mage, as two Orlesian-of-Rivaini-decent mages are a bit redundant.)]

Mages:
Vivienne (female, human, Orlesian of Rivaini decent)
[Bald Elf Guy (male, elf, Dalish or former-circle-mage-turned-apostate)]
[**Rhys from Asunder (male, human, Orlesian of Fereldan decent former-circle-mage-turned-apostate)]

You're welcome! :)

Thanks for sharing the fruit of your speculation - really interesting.

I always imagined that we'd meet Rhys & Evangeline as part of the Mage group when dealing with the Mage-Templar kerfuffle - like if you wanted to find a compromise solution to end it all (big assumption there that compromise will be an option), they'd be the ones you'd work with as opposed to Adrian and the like.

That said I kind of like the idea of having companions that are an established couple (rather than them hooking up once it's clear you have no interest in them - eg. Fenris/Isabela, Tali/Garrus).
