Good digging.  Based off of the design of the red lyrium bows, I think we may be seeing bows being used as melee weapons as well.  I never played DA2 as a rogue, so I have no idea if that is new or not.  Either way, I'm a huge fan of bladed bows.

I could be wrong, but I believe a rogue equipped with a bow would pull out a dagger and attack with that if a target got into melee range. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm not correct, though. I've hardly ever played anything other than a Warrior.

Considering they were fomer templars I was assuming they would use a modified (corrupted) sunburst as their logo.

The cross symbol resembles the Templar's symbol, from which the RT came from.
I'm interested to see what happened that lead to the separation though.

Yeah they used the murder knife as their melee weapon.

Considering that Red templar might assume red lyrium potions to sustained their abilities and addiction, other than to create their weapons, the implications are...unpleasant.

yep.. note to self don't drink anything I find on red templars

Oh yeah I forgot about the sword of mercy symbol, my bad.

Looks like there's no shortage of Red Lyrium. Either they have found a mine or that stuff can be grown like Materia.

The cross in no way resembles the cross of that particular religion, other than the fact that it is indeed a cross. I think you're looking into things a little too much.

But it is a cross.  And when we're dealing with Templars, christian symbolism is hard to ignore.

On Wikipedia, the symbol used for the (real world) Knights Templar is

200px-Cross_Templar.svg.png

Though the Templars in fact seem to have used pretty much every Cross variant ever.

I and a few others have theorised that red lyrium is self replicating; you turn into a red lyrium statue/ Behometh once you have consumed too much of the stuff.

Given what we saw in DA2 I had a few thoughts on where it might come from.

1. Part of me wonders if the locations of red Lirium were lost, and the discovery in DA2 led to abundant locations. 2. The other part of me wonders if red Lirium can't be outright created, or grown, or even the result of converting Lirium into through some means. If we're really talking about using in a war-like fashion the supply is either massive, or they've found a way to generate it somehow. The prior rarity just can't stand if we're going to see it in the numbers required to be a real threat.

On an unrelated note the Red Templar bows look a little silly and unwieldly, over the top even, but, I suppose they wanted to make sure you had a good visual cue of what was coming at you.

Nice, some detailes I missed!
A detail I loved that just makes the world seem a bit more alive is in the background in one of the dialouge scenes:

Dagna gets a mention somewhere in the Demo. Not a verbal mention, but a text mention. She's an artificer.

Yup. The way she was mentioned makes me hopeful for her appearance in Inqusition.

One of my favorite sidequests, it would be awesome to at least see what she's been up to all this time.

-Vivienne

tumblr_n1jhknKN7e1sjnh4bo3_100.png

The ability on the left is an ice wall, and the right is the FIRE BALLS OF DOOOOOOOOM.

tumblr_n1jhknKN7e1sjnh4bo4_250.png
She uses the ability to the right to teleport of rush a short distance. The ability in the top center is used to weaken an enemy mage.

[snip]

Now let's examine the command wheel:

-Cassandra

A rock armor potion, elf root potion, and a fire resistance potion.

OK. It's this UI stuff that has me -- well, perplexed. Now granted, I think this is pre-alpha game footage. But ...

So what are those groupings of four icons? You mean that we have to pick from our spells/abilities out of groups of 4 in a diamond? So to choose a spell Vivienne has to move back and forth between groups (diamonds) of 4 to select the one she/we want?

And WTF is a "command wheel". So a utility bar at the bottom is gone? I gotta say I sure loved one UI thing in DA2, and that was a nice long ability bar into which I could put dozens of abilities, potions, items, etc. Instead there's now a "command wheel" in which there are only 8 things?

Or are we looking at the console UI, rather than the PC UI? (I hope so.)

This master racer isn't crazy about "command wheels".

I'm pretty sure its safe to say thats the console UI, remember they have said the PC version is getting its own unique UI, there's no reason they would move away from the UI styles they used in the PC version of Origins and II

This is the specific console UI. The PC will have his own UI.
to be clear, it was the same in DAO and DA2 on console.

That is the console UI, the consoles also had those "command wheels" and grouping of icons for previous Dragon Ages as well. Plus, if you look closely, you can see the Xbox controller buttons below the icon group

The PC version has it's own KB/M interface, just like the previous games. They've already confirmed this. The demo was played on a PC using an Xbox 360 controller.

OK, so I take it they've never demo'd the PC UI yet. Well, in all honestly, if the UI is like DA2, should be fine. I didn't like the dialogue UI, but the combat UI was perfect.
