Why don't Infiltrators use the Geth SMG?

GPSMG is not half as bad on the GI, but then is anything bad on the GI? Good on gold and usable on plat with another GI(any enemy debuff character) Only problem tho is that both ammo mods need to be taken so that the weapon ramp up stays for a longer time.

Also, Infiltrators need no secondaries. GI Javelin is the best single target damage dealer. I can only suggest OP that you should play it more and learn as you go.

I am sorry but this is ridiculous. Not because of the ida of secondary weapon on infiltrator sniper, but for demanding every sniper you encounter have to carry back up weapon in order to be accepted by you, just because you met someone who wasn´t good at sniping.

Oh, I'm quite serious.

I know the limitations of the Javelin very well, considering it is my favored Sniper Rifle.
Basically, 1 shot, 1 reload.
If you miss the shot, you've just expended a round for no benefit.

I'm not sure it works on Banshees anyway, considering what I saw in that match.
Granted, I couldn't see their health bars, but it looked like they were just ignoring the Javelin shots.
And I know from bitter experience if you don't take a Banshee down fast, you'll regret it when they catch you.

Which is why I'm choosing to bring back that rule, I think when facing a Banshee or something else as/more powerful, a Sniper Rifle isn't going to cut it anymore.

The only thing I know that really works on Banshees is Flamer, I've killed a significant number of Banshees just by setting them on fire.
But that's a skill, not a weapon.

I think a Reegar carbine has a similar effect to a Flamer, which probably explains why I see it being used so much.

LOL

134 hours played = "experienced"

LOL

Now that that's outta my system - learn to Javelin. Any Javelin Infiltrator should average two, three, four shots tops on a Banshee or other boss unit. Rarely will you get more than that unless dealing with the boss solo and not landing headshots. With help as is the case 90% of the time, four shots, as by that point your last shot or a teammate render that baddy dead. The tame it takes to stop shooting and switch guns, I can pop off two Javelin shots instead. Time spent switching guns is time spent not shooting, essentially axing short term DPS output.

Have you learned to reload cancel? I'm getting certain vibes telling me you don't, not to be demeaning or anything. Something to pick up on to help be successful.

Taking an N7 Eagle Pistol would be a better option.

this! or the hurricane, csmg, tempest, scorpion, arc pistol, bpp, etc.

To clarify, I'm unlikely to be the one playing Infilitrator.

It's someone else's skill I'm concerned about.

To be blunt, I have no idea if the player I'm looking at is an expert Sniper or a walking disaster waiting to bring the rest of the team down.

In this case, if I see this players' handle again, I'm going to avoid them on general principle, having seen the problems they bring twice already.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but based on my own personal observations, you have to hit a Banshee with sustained or rapid fire/damage in order to achieve a quick kill.

Because you have to carve through their biotic barriers and then do the same again for their health bars.

Pretty much every Sniper Rifle I tried is a slow fire rate weapon, with the exception of the Collector one.

I've no doubt that given time, you can snipe them to death, but every second a Banshee is alive is one more second for them to put their fingers through your spine.

And then you're out until the next wave.

Add in the ability to teleport right up to you or behind you and it gets even more dangerous.

But esentially, you never know if the player you are looking at is expert or walking disaster. Sniper rifle or not.

Fast firing weapons are certainly good idea on Banshee. But if you can aim, one shot weapons with high dps are equally effective. GI Javelin can use proximity mines and cloak to increase damage done to target, dealing with Banshee in like four shots, even faster if you can land headshot.

Also as someone mentioned, reload cancel can help a lot with one shot weapons. And then you have weapons like three shot Black Widow or Indra which is essentially assault rifle with scope.

Situational awareness is best weapon against Banshees honestly. If you know what phase are they in and can adapt your tactics, even better. It´s not like it takes half of match mowing Banshees down with sniper rifle :D It can be just as quick as with other weapons.

If we're taking GI and the Javelin, we're probably talking additional penetration mods being equipped.

When shes teleporting use powers to cause her to stop and put up the "Hand of Denial" this will slow her down and she'll take double damage from that useless sniper rifle.

I do take Hurricane along with the Jav.  Just because I can and for mobs not bosses.

The biggest problem tends to be those pesky Platinum double Banshees if you're Soloing/clutching and a GPSMG isn't going to help at that point.

Like in this video that I watched just the other day: http://youtu.be/K4sowRIqQHE?t=12m51s

The guy kills a Banshee on gold in 2 shots with the Javelin. I can't wait until I get the Javelin myself so that I can try it out, what really annoys me though in this game is that crazy auto-aim feature, mainly the reason as to why I've stayed away from sniper rifles so far. But even with that I really fail to see why OP wouldn't play with a player who only uses a sniper rifle, because chances are if they aren't using a secondary that they are actually quite good with sniper rifles =p

[..]

Now, I understand that Infiltrators only carry one gun for cooldown reasons, but I also know that with an Ultralight Materials Mod, a Geth SMG is almost weightless, therefore you can carry it as a backup weapon with minimal effect on your cooldown.

[..]

CD doesn't matter for the Infiltrator because of the TC mechanic. There is simply no point in taking a secondary weapon. Acolyte is a pick if you want a tool to strip shields, but it's a totally viable primary weapon in itself.

You can easily two shot a banshee on plat with a GI with jav X and warp IV if you make here raise her hand with proxy mines and then score a double hit. First shot will take out her barrier, so she will stop teleporting, proxy mine will make her raise the bubble and the last double hit shot will kill her.

The only character I put the GPSMG on is the Turian soldier with heat sink and thermal clip capacity with SMG amp III, and AP IV. He's decent against mooks and slow moving bosses, but banshees are annoying. I still carry  a secondary to deal with them. I also only put that gun on him when I feel like doing the challenge. It's not that it's a horrible gun, it's just that there are other SMG's that are better.

I just don't even care. I don't consider a player a lesser if they equip a secondary weapon on an infiltrator. Personally I've found it difficult to snipe in ALL situations such as in a hack circle, jumping off of a device to get an enemy off your back in melee distance etc. I can rapid fire my Black Widow at mooks in my face relatively easily with my SI but I still like to equip a Tempest (I think that's what I have for secondary on him) just in case. It's more of a security blanket for me anyway as I find I rarely whip it out.

Additionally I'm not a consistent sniper which is one of my faults as a player. I can have a very good day or super crap match with really low accuracy.

I must not be such a gamer to my marrow without that perpetual condescension about people who play differently. I can understand being annoyed by disrupter rounds in a full adept lobby or seeing mods that make no sense on weapons but generally I am laid back about what others want to do with THEIR character.

Geth SMG on Destroyer with extended mag in Devastator mode + Magazine capacity + SMG heat sink makes it the longest firing DPS SMG. But it still sucks.

It's true, it's not like you use your sidearm more than 6 times per match anyway.
