Why is Mass Effect 3 multiplayer crashing so much?

I'm thoroughly confused (and extremely annoyed) by now about this.

It seems Mass Effect 3 just can't avoid crashing while I'm playing multiplayer.

So far, the crash has happened when:

  • Loading a match map.
  • A new wave of enemies starts
  • Starting up the game before trying to play multiplayer.
  • Queues that don't start the match as soon as 4 players are available.

I don't know what is causing this, but I find it extremely strange that a game I could play for hours can't even handle 30 minutes of gameplay now.

I can't say if it crashes as much in soloplayer (because I don't really play solo campaign anymore), but I think it does as well.

I specifically remember map transitions to Anderson's apartment were very dicey, it was a 50% crash rate on trying to load that map!

That's odd, I don't remember having severe crash issues when I played MP, and they haven't changed anything since I did. Have you tried a clean reinstall?

It could be localised to your PC. The MP has never been tops, but those errors all together seem more local to you.

I'm always wary about doing clean installs, as I usually have to replace my savegames and reconfigure my game settings afterwards.

I have no proof for this, but I suspect the problem isn't in the game client itself, but the external servers it connects to.

Which is a reasonable hypothesis, considering the crashes occur consistently while it's trying to get data from another server, usually an EA or Origin server.

And obviously, if the problem is in these servers, then clean installs won't fix anything.

This would probably get more of a response in the multiplayer subforum.

I considered posting in the multiplayer forum.

But as there didn't appear to be a category for technical support, I chose to post here instead.

And the actual technical support forum is read-only, so obviously, posting there was not an option.

The technical support forums on BSN (now the BioWare Forum) were made read-only because they wanted people to use EA Answer HQ instead for Mass Effect and Dragon Age technical problems. http://answers.ea.co...t-p/mass-effect They have a Mass Effect 3 section where general (and MP specific) issues can be posted.

Never been a fan of 3rd party technical support.

For the simple reason that with most other companies that provided it, I usually got one of two responses, both of which failed to solve the problem.

1. Let's spend a significant amount of time chasing unrelated solutions that don't actually have anything to do with the problem.

2. It's not a problem with our system, your computer is broken, therefore we won't do anything.

Which is why I prefer to go directly to the ones who actually make it, as they'll (hopefully!) understand the problem better then someone who's essentially just hired to go through a helpdesk checklist without any actual knowledge of the software involved.

I guess that's EA's subtle way to tell us to let go and move on.

Move on to what?

Mass Effect 3 is the only Origin game I play!

And yes, I am aware there are other games out there, probably even Dragon Age something or other.

But since I never cared for anything that isn't sci-fi and BioWare, that means I just don't care what else they have!

I'm thinking about playing ME3 again and I'm wondering if the online side of things are still busy-ish?  Do you even need to play online to get the best results come the end?

You do not, provided you import a save :) possibly even without doing so, I'm not certain about that.

If you've played multiplayer a lot and promoted several classes, it should require even less side quests/galaxy exploration.

As I understand if, if you install the Extended Cut DLC for ME3, it lowers the requirements for "best possible outcome" to be less/not reliant on multiplayer.

Not that I've tried this myself, I stopped playing shortly after I finished the Citadel DLC.

I've been all the way to the end twice now, a third time achieves nothing unless you get to import the savegame to a future ME game for story customization or ingame rewards.

Plus, by stopping where I did, I can play in Armax Arena whenever I want.  :D
