I'd love to see some characters, particularly Sten, Aveline and Leliana. Oh, and I'd love to see Schmooples again!
And Oghren. If we are going to Kal Sharok, I'd very much like him to be there.
Furthermore, I would love some cameos from Asunder.

Asunder is the comic, right? I'm not such a big fan of those.. I'd just stick to the previous games, but then again, I didn't read any of the comics...

Asunder is the third novel . first novel is The Stolen Throne, second novel is The Calling, the fourth novel is due out in a couple months, The Masked Empire

Without giving spoilers, it does rule out the possibility of certain cameos in Dragon Age: Inquisition.

I mean she wasted 10 years on a Broken Eluvian and it never worked.

I made her smash the damn thing .

I was sure it would do something and it never happened.It was disapointing.

I know Morrigan figured it out , but hey she also had an OGB (or not) her mother 's a freaking dragon witch...

Merrill deserve the spotlight on this one.

So if the Inquisition needs one of those awful mirror , I'd like to see her back .

I'd be happy seeing anyone from past games, as long as it makes sense within the story. Though I would especially love to see a Zevran who recognizes my Warden romance.

To add to this topic, I'd really, really love to see Evangeline from the novel Asunder. She'd be great to see in Val Royeaux.

I want to see Merrill during the Arlathven. Would squee so much from having her arrive to drop some truth bombs on elvhen technology. Could have an interesting variation depending on whether she was friended or rivalled as well.

Anders, I really want to meet him. Is he doing all right? Are most mages supportive of his methods? Is Hawke still by his side? He's responsible for a lot and can't be living an easy life. Would love to see what is going on with him.

They're neat, but I'd recommend Asunder over the comics any day.

Leliana would be awesome, not just because it could very well work in a story sense but the possibility of bringing back that morrigan/leliana relationship from origins

Sebastian. Okay i thought he was a bit of a douche, and i always laugh at his reaction when anders commits his act of terrorism, but it'd be interesting to see what hes done with his life, be it become more of a chantry man or run starkhaven.

A return to Highever, to see Fergus

 

A chance to see Alistair presiding as king.

I personally felt that Bioware overdid Isabella as a sex icon, mainly the scene with Zevran was slighlty overdone in my opinion, and this really began to annoy me from time to time. This was also due to the fact that she was (my) Hawke's LI at that point and was still screaming for other people's attention. So I'm not that much of a fan of Isabella. (Only credit I can give her though was that she said during the Mark of the Assassin DLC: 'I have a purpose, I have Hawke.') 

 

Mabari are awesome. I fell in love with the name Bioware gave the Mabari in some DLC for Origins, namely Barkspawn, and I've used it ever since.

There's a lot of characters I'd like to see again, including the Warden and Hawke.  (I can hear the BSN hissing at me...)  But the characters I'd most like to see again are Fenris and Jowan.  Fenris, because he's my favorite.  Jowan, because he was like a brother to my Warden, and I'd like to know what happened to him.

Honestly... I'm hoping for as few cameos as possible, that was one of the biggest gripes I had with the Mass Effect series (and even in DAII)...

 

It just made the whole damned universe they created seem so damned small, when every single random person that you barely remember from a random side quest turns up to tell you—in great detail what happened after said random side quest. Yes, I'd like to know about the choices I've made in the last two games but this doesn't need to come from that person showing up and telling me about it or sending me a gosh darned email. Like Drake Heath said: BioWare's not very good at cameos.

One or two cameos from the group of major characters I'd be kinda ok with, if they're written into the story the right way. Not like DAII where every cameo to me (barring Isabella) felt so tacked on and forced.

I agree with you on the case of Mass Effect. The Universe is friggin' huge in that game and there are very few reasons for people to cross paths with you, especially if you're on a mission to save life as we know it. 

 

In DA however, I believe there are some reasons for characters to return, especially if they have a powerful position. For instance Leliana, who has become an integral part of the Chantry has logical reasons to return in Inquisition. Same goes for Alistair (in the case of him being king) and the Warden and Hawke as they are both warriors of renown. People such as Isabella however have very little reason to show up.
