The specular seems to be in the alpha of the diffuse. There was a separate spec before in the files? Can you throw your old textures up, i'll see what I can find.

I don't fully recall but my texture package has a spec.  It IS one of those generic diff textures that has a pale skin tone (shared among different characers including Shepard with variable possible skin pigments).  Perhaps it DIDN'T have a spec...it's been long enough I don't recall.

I'm gonna guess it doesn't then as this alpha definitely looks like it's the specular. They do that sometimes, especially on skin textures.

Hmm.  The "shine" was always there (and a pain to work out correctly without strange artifacts) but when I tested her on my rig it was always on the Normandy or on a save game on the Rachni mission (dark) so I never got a chance to see her in better lit scenes, and I suppose because the mod was troublesome for many there was no opportunity for many others to see her there either :/.  I think she actually looks pretty good in the pics except she DOES appear a bit too glowy.  I can try to futz with the spec some more but seeing how the red uniform doesn't have the sheen, I suspect it must be alpha channel(?).  I could probably better try playing with the alpha on her default texture.  Her face is as it normally is, except I added eyebrows so there's nothing unusual there.  The hair is part of the scalp texture and that has to match the diff and spec scheme of her face (her plastic helmet hair was also part of her scalp so I had to go that way too, otherwise I would have done something more to get her hair MORE hair-like).

As for the Ottemis texture...is the appearance significantly different from "native"?  The red...is it normally brighter, more intense red normally?

Also...I assume you're using Ottemis eyes?  They look great.

For the default outfit (EDIa) the red channel in the specmap controls her shiny skin overlay (almost a wetlook), if it's not entirely eliminated for this re-mesh, I'd suggest trying that. Just black out the red channel or at least make sure it's in the dark spectrum. Blue is lights so careful with that one as well.
Green's the actual specular and the alpha i'm not sure about but I've got that layer pretty exposed as the original is, if any function is attached to it it's never really stood out, I kept it close to the green channel.

Here is a test spec for EDIa that I hope improves the appearance of the new default uniform: EDI-test-Spec.tpf

Looks good!
As to the face 'glow' on the shuttle and cutscenes.... I can happily live with that to use this mod! New face just looks so much better than the default one.
Thank you so much for this!

Ears and eyebrows go a long way to improving the look :)

Would you please post a pic?  I'm very curious as to the effect.  I'm not sure why cut scenes are magically different than game scenes for her face but I could try messing with her face and scalp spec a bit too.

I'll replace the spec in the mod with the new one and put it up as an update.

Cutscene from shuttle in 'from ashes'
Face comes over very 'bright' in the dialog on the shuttle. Used Texmod to see if it was calling a different spec but it isn't. Normal gameplay the face/body does not get this 'overglow', so i guess the game is adding lighting somehow.

Normal Gameplay (changed black outfit to Ottemis-reclored)

Like i said in previous post. Nothing that cant be lived with :)
That said a human skin version would be great too LOL

Getorex, would you be interested in a skin-toned plastic look instead of true flesh?

@Ottemis: I know you were talking to Getorex, but thanks for the explanation on EDI's spec.  That'll help me alot :)

I may. It depends on how it looks in the end product.  I want to keep mine separate from Largon's but mainly want to make sure EDI keeps looking like Tricia Helfer.  If it looks good and she still looks like Helfer, absolutely.

Trouble with Largon's mod is that 0108k cannot load it (unsupported message) and looking at the mod 'forum' he may not be updating this any more :(
SO please consider a skin-toned version too  B)

Hey Getorex I tried you updated traynor / femshep and it didn't work. I tried it with a femshep liara romance scene and when it crashes half way exactly when your replacement textures are about to appear. I then applied the backup tpf and still no luck.

The backup tpf only contained the NKDc_norm and when I look in texplorer the the _diff is still the old one.

I applied the .mod using rev644.

Ok, I'll have to regenerate it from scratch. The textures are being problematic for me for some reason (likely bcuz me3explorer duplicated the traynor citadel dlc pcc and put it in my game folder with a handful of others).

For such a simple mod this one has been very problematic.

Sorry.

As for the EDI mod. I cannot, as yet, change the material in her default unigorm pcc files (BioH_EDI_00_NC.pcc, _00.pcc, and _00_Explore.pcc). Any outside diff texture you use in place of the EDIg texture I used will still take on the metallic sheen/shine. The spec is as modified as I can make it so...

I will go ahead and check on a skin tone modification and examine Largon's mod, if possible, to see if I can get useful info out of it.

I loaded Largon's EDI-to-EVA mod into ME3explorer (didn't apply it) so I could get a look at the surface of what he was doing.  Some of it is quite mysterious to me (he seems to have created a new/unique pcc file just for his mod(???), for instance, to hold some data for his mod) but also appears to have managed to do some material replacements.  I cannot yet do this myself though I could easily get far enough along that route to wreck EDI's pcc file.  I have messaged Largon in hopes he is still around now and then and will pass on a bit of info.  I'll also have to ask around the ME3explorer forums because without a material swap I cannot eliminate the metallic sheen of EDI's default uniform and I wont be able to try a decent skin tone mod for EDI either.

Are you sure the sheen is not just because there is a alpha map with the diff texture?

Hmmm, not sure.  The alpha on the diff is blank.  Just in case, I'll pull it entirely and let ya'll try that.  The spec has an alpha too.

Here's a EDI mod test Diff texture lacking an alpha entirely.  If this doesn't affect the metallic look then I can try messing with the alpha on the spec.

Please, someone, try it and post a pic: EDIa-Diff-NoAlpha-Test-52414.zip

Also, I found a few pics of Tricia Helfer online wherein she is not smiling, the shots are full-face-on, and one is ALMOST a side profile shot of her face.  I will TRY to use these as a basis for generating face textures for EDI that make her actually look a lot more like Tricia.

@Getorex

Just thought I'd reduce the pressure on you to test the mods. So I'd post the mods on general forums for testing.

I would appreciate it, if someone gave me a heads-up whether the instructions make sense and how well the MOD files work.

My modset:

- Removes the ridiculous faceshield from the typhoon

- Replaces the horrendous blue 'suit' with Getorex's piece (credit to Getorex) whilst on Normandy

- Replaces the horrendous blue suit' with the Ajax suit alliance texture (Tarkov33's Spectre Ajax Textures and Getorex's epic helmet)

- Replaces the horrible pink suit with the a custom texture and hazard armour from ME1 (a call back to the suits of ME1 and uses Getorex's face mod)

As always make backups.

Link: https://mega.co.nz/#!cwJVhCAL!gPddvRBzPstapGdLS5RdiQuqeG3rd1pIfcgQn-aaIFc

If all goes well, I should be able to post the files on Nexus Mods sometime this weekend

By the way here is what the results should look like.

Ashley armors work in game, but am right now struggling through creating a squad preview image for them. My filleting skills are crap.

This looks incredible, particularly the armor in the first screenshots. I was looking for it on the Nexus, but I guess it hasn't been uploaded yet... is the hair seen in the last ones still a separate mod? I think you said it was "Church's" before, but I didn't know where to find that. Would I need to buy the DLC armor pack for this to work?

I was just offered a hi-res Onyx armor texture (and help producing other hi res textures from me1) at Moddb for use with the Me1 legacy armor mod.

As for the Ashley Alliance uniform mod, I've been tweaking it a bit and hope to offer it up for testing soon. I EXPECT there should be an improvement in the shoulder appearance (meshwise).

As part of experiment for EDI, here's what I will try as the basis for a "skin-tone" EDI using Tricia Helfer's face (her voice and body body):

I remember I had the same issue with my mod as well.

Tupi3xi of the old forum post, suggested to do the following:

- fill the alpha on the diff and spec texture with black. Completely black. What this does is remove any material hue or what not.

- The side effect is that you get a psedo-matte finish as well.

I don't know if that is what you are looking for....

@DeinonSlayer

Thank you for the compliment. Though Getorex, Ottemis, Tupi3xi and plenty other deserve at least half of the credit.

I have yet to upload it to Nexus at the moment. It should happen soon though (latest is Monday). I do believe there is the DLC link in the post that should let you use it.

As to the hair. No, you do not need to buy  a separate DLC pack.

That being said, the White and maroon camo suit (the hazard armour from ME1) will require the collector's edition DLC (the one that gets you the N7 hurricane and the robotic dog) to run.

I figured that since the crappy maroon and white dress was an attempted callback to ME1, I figured I could try and improve it.
