I guess it lends a flair of originality (not really) but it's kind of irksome. I only visit this site via mobile and so my uploading options are limited to either my phone's photo section or URLs. I suspect perhaps it's iPhone being silly, but when I've attempted to provide a URL from Instagram (via the handy "Copy URL to clipboard" option, even) I get errors.
Is this more a me problem than anything? Should I just rock the vertical look until the next time I'm working on a PC somewhere?

What sort of errors do you get trying to provide a URL? My current avatar was actually added via URL. I also added some images (from instagram) on some test accounts on an iPad without any issues. I will try some other iDevices pictures stored locally on the device itself, what iPhone are you using?
