Here's an interview, in french, with AWR that was done in March 2013. It starts at 2:13
Natsumi494 at Deviantart was kind enough to translate it to english in this brief summary of the interview
So Alix Wilton Reagan who is the voice of Samantha Traynor in ME3 make us the honneur of an interview, in french !
About her career : she began as an actress, then did some voice over for TV, radio, radio-theater, and then she was recruted to do some voice acting for Bioware, EA Games, Nintendo... She would like to act something in French.
About the video games :
She doesn't spend much time to play video games, she mainly knows the video games from her boyfriend who is an casual gamer, she discovers Traynor in ME3 from his ME3 playthrough
Her work with Bioware : She began in DAO in a very small role, then the director calls her to voice acting in DAII, then for trying the essais for Samantha Traynor in ME3. Alix only knew Mass Effect by the name and the reputation, she had no idea who Samantha Traynor was and will be. She went to the audition, she registred few lines, and months ago she was called to say she had the role.
About Samantha : Samantha, as Cortez (and Vega but she didn't mention him), is the last character to arrive on the Normandy. She is also an homosexual character. At the beginning, Alix didn't know that Samantha was gay, she found out through the lines and sentences like the fact Samantha loves EDI's voice. This sentence made her laugh because Alix first pass an audition for EDI, she thought it was funny her character like EDI. So Samantha is a talented young british woman, she studies in Oxford...
Alix really enjoys the fans feedback about Samantha. There is only a few homosexual characters in the game, and she is proud to voice acting one of them, it's an honnor for her. She like the fact Samantha is very well written : Samantha is a very smart and beautiful woman, she is a whole character and personnality like the others people on the Normandy, her sexuality is just a fact it doesn't resume her, she is not a caricature of it.
Alix thinks Bioware did something very responsable and clever for young gamers and homosexual gamers, it's important for her they are represented in the video games and somes characters are homosexual in the games.
About the voice acting : You have to trust your voice when you're doing voice acting, because you can't use your body, your eyes, your face to express the emotion, it's only on the voice.
About her work : Alix worked in London, she arrived at work everyday at 15h, and she had the voice director at phone, who was working from Canada. Alix was alone in a small studio while in the next room a tehcnician record her voice. The canadian voice direcotr gives her directives and adivses for the voice acting : "quicker, laughter, easier, the scene looks like this, this happen now...". Alix didn't really change dialogues for Traynor, she just adaptes few sentences because she thought it was too american/canadian : Traynor is British like Alix, so she adapts her way of talking to make it sounds more British.
Alix really enjoyed working on Mass Effect because there is a great quality of voice director, the plot is very clever, the dialogues well written, it's easy to voice acting such quality dialogues.
She was very honored to arrive on the Mass Effect saga, because even if she never played to ME1 and ME2, she knew Mass Effect was very popular among gamers. When she was casted, she looked at Imdb and she was amazed by all the great actors who worked on the saga. In particulary, she is really amazed by Mark Meer and Jennifer Hale work (sometimes she had their recording while she was doing voice acting for few scenes).
Her favorite scene : A lot of them, she enjoys actions scenes, because she is very physical, she liked playing with all her energy. She also liked the clever dialogues, the chess game, the shower scene, the toothbrush... She was very lucky to work with Bioware.
Her hardest scene : the goodbye scene on the Normandy. Very moving, emotionnal, sad, but it also made her realise it was on honor to was such great character.
An in the end, thank to all the fans who supports her and liked Samantha Traynor !
