When Mass Effect 1 came out in 2007, it was amazing. But even then it took leveling to 15-20 for the combat to start getting good. The story is still the best out of the series, I didn't know what reapers were until the big reveal in first. I imagine if I were to go backwards like you did, I would have the same opinion as yours.

I started me with 2 then about the time I found Garrus I got tired of not knowing wtf these characters who were talking to me like they've known me for years bringing up all these past events that I knew nothing about.
So I installed me1 and made one fatal error. I put the controller mod for pc in. I was running the same mod in me2 and was doing fine with the combat.
I got my junk kicked in so hard by me1. It's a good thing im an old school gamer and understand that the older games take more skill and or patience to play.
Honestly even on easy i would easily die 10-15 times every boss fight. I just wanted to see the story cause the comic at the beginning of part 2 just glazed over events but wow was it hard.
I plan on going back now that I have a better grasp of the series. Also I plan on playing kb m but I dont have a computer desk and play off of my tv so it's kind of a pain to play kb m but i did it for origins and other games that require kbm
