Every page takes 10+ seconds to load

We've just put a fix in place that should remove the long load times.

Fix this please. I understand that I live far from USA, but 10+ seconds is just too much. Ping is around 100-200 ms, so a page should load in half a second max. Old site is working rather fast, it takes ~1 second to load a page.

I'm in Canada, and it's not much better here.  The new BSN is slow.

I expect they'll work something out, but for now it's sometimes frustrating to use.

Don't worry, this is natural. The BSN had this same thing happen when it was first implemented(along with an issue of a lot of us being unable to make accounts at the start, :P).

Because this place is new, there's loads of traffic, things going on behind the scenes, and the forum needs time to relax and become fully stable. When that happens, loading won't be as long as it is now. Just have some patience and you'll be back to instantaneous page switches in no time at all. :)

Yes, it's pretty bad in the loading time department at the moment.

Noted issue, thanks!

The issues are much more likely server side, so distance from us likely won't mean anything.  I spoke with Brian though and they are investigating.  Some of it is just hardware and caching still ramping up too.

Cheers!

Yup, we have some more servers still incoming, which should help with things.  Hopefully things should be a bit snappier in the near-ish future, once we have the new hardware delivered and in place.

It may be just me, but it is already faster. Thanks for your work :)

It'll have its moments of jumping from fast to slow. No worries though, they're on it.

It really seems like it only applies to the sub-forums which have a huge number of topics. Is the server trying to query all 100,000+ topics in the me3 multiplayer combat strategy forum? Or if it is is returning a certain number at the top is it indexed correctly? Rather than just throwing server power at it there might be a more efficient solution.

Don't know about that, it's being very slow on this one too for me.

It is slow on opening topics too, so it is not the issue with pagination. But pagination my be the problem too, AFAIK selecting topics using LIMIT 10, 1000 will select 1010 rows, but drop after that first 1000. So selecting should be done in a smarter way.

The problem will be when we have threads with lots of images posted. How long will then have to wait to view the page. Please biogurus, you can do better!

After browsing a bit more I have found a couple of other instances where it is painfully slow, but no where near as much as the Multiplayer Combat strategy forum, and in other places it isn't consistent. I don't think it is pagination, if by that you mean how it works out how many to display per page and the 1,2,3,4 next links. It really does stick out as an indexing problem. I don't know exactly how forums work but in terms of sql, returning the top 1000 rows of a properly indexed table containing millions of rows will return instantly, but running the same query on an un-indexed table will take many seconds, thousands of times longer.

It will be instantaneous if you query using ID to select top rows, if you select rows using LIMIT x,y it will be very slow on millions of rows.

There are a few things coming that should help with the slowness problem. If a category like Multiplayer Combat is loading fast then you are likely hitting a cached page, when it is slow the cache is having to be rebuilt.

Uhm, I'm not sure what that means, but the "Combat Strategy" section of "Multiplayer" in ME#+3 loads terribly slowly every time I open it.

Same here.

Combat Strategy in the ME3MP forum took ages to load before. Now, instantaneous.

Good job, Jesse, thanks!

It always loaded faster than the old BSN for me, now it's almost instantaneous. Thank you!
