I'm sure I'm a jerk for thinking this, but I don't really love the idea of non-professionals contributing. This, like the Chobot voicing in ME3, seems more like marketing and promotion than a design choice made in the best interest of the scene. The best I can hope for is that the winners are talented enough to go unnoticed. Generally I'm happy to see Bioware interacting with fans, but game content is sacred, and this doesn't sit well with me.
I don't like inserting real people into games - especially voice and visuals together. It totally wigs me out. (It's more an immersion thing, though.)
I've never even tried voice acting before, but I'm totally going to have a go at this. I think it's a really fun opportunity, as a learning experience. I'm a big believer in learning about games by doing. BioWare's creative writing contest was also a really valuable thing to be a part of.
Having said all that, I'm really sure that a) this will attract a decently sized pool of people who are really good at voice acting and
they won't use the voice unless it fits really well into the game. (Because surely they wouldn't. But maybe they would. I have no idea. I don't reckon they would.)
